He gives back 2 million. If Marb has this offer on the table, I dont see why he wont give back the money. This also shows me that this has been Dolans call all along.

I'm disappointed in Dolan - 2 mil is too easy. I really like the banishment - I wish it would last for years.

taking back two million out of like 20 or 21, or whatever the hell it is, is way too sweetheart. We're essentially giving him 18-19 million for doing nothing -- if you dont count being a pain in the ass. I dont want to sound like one of those guys, but something is just morally wrong about that.

like i said a while ago, this was a poker game being played by Dolan & Marbs the whole time... both are stubborn pricks who doesn't wanna give the other the satisfaction they're looking for... everyone wants to bash on Walsh for mishandling the situation but i've always felt this was Dolan's call from the very beginning.

From his POV 2M >>>>> carrying cost of the biggest loser on the NBA
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

Marbury is a disease. The franchise cannot truly move on until he is no longer a member of the the roster. Same goes for the rest of Isiah's junk that still wastes away on our roster.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Dolan is an idiot. I hope that extra million, which Dolan would never miss, is worth all the extra bad publicity that the franchise received by keeping Marbury around.

As a fan, for the extra million, I'd rather the team was developing another player that could have a future on the team instead of Dolan getting his ounce.

It's shortsighted and stupid and further proof that Walsh is just a puppet.

who cares about bad publicity? We suck, thats what we need to be concerned about.

If I'm the owner, I'm not just going to hand him 20 million so he can go play for another team. Its just the principle involved. Alright, I am contractually obligated to pay you? fine. But either give me some of that jack back, or you can rot.

Exactly. But be careful who you argue with because we both know if Marbury is cut at the top of the season and followed that by performing well with another team cats would be on that "we let him go for nothing" nonsense. Some cats are just born to talk noise no matter what.

We've already given him 11M to do nothing. Season is half over. He's half paid. At this point you're taking 2M off of a final 11M - of which saves Dolan 4M given the luxury tax we will face - which to me is a great deal for us and not too shabby for Steph.

If Steph accepts it then good let's move on. If he does not then Dolan should not go lower and then tell him to go home and wait until the summer when his contract expires and then he can move on.

Why do some fans want our franchise to punish Marbury? For what level of satisfaction? It's bush league to want that. We're also trying to be a professional franchise again and it does not start by punishing players by either demanding they give up an absurd amount off their guaranteed contract or by purposely screwing with the player's ability to sign elsewhere and enter the playoffs.

Anything else comes off as foolish and unprofessional.

Untrue. I can hardly be the only fan who said we do what's in our best interests and should not be concerned with what Marbury could have done on another team. Our concern lies with our team. Given our state he could not hurt us. What he does elsewhere is of no consequence.

As to the whole who cares about bad publicity we suck - part of the reason we've sucked for so long is the unprofessional manner in which the franchise had been run.

At this point either Marbury accepts the buyout of 2M or we need to tell him to go home and wait until the summer. Waiving him March 2nd to screw with his eligibility or acting like baffoons in the media blasting Steph and demanding 5M or more from him would be a continuation of the very methods that put us in this mess in the first place. So I really hope we don't go that route.

We're cleaning up our act, and if that upsets some that it means Marbury won't be punished or embarrassed, then so be it.

I hope he accepts the offer. If he does not we need to just turn the page and stop talking about him as a franchise and make a statement that he will be retained until his contract expires at the end of the season. No big deal. Just do it professionally that's all I ask as a fan. Enough with Dolan and Isiah making a mockery of this franchise with their immature school kid level methodology.

I don't necessarily believe that cleaning up the professional image of the franchise and our handling of the Marbury situation are so closely tied. Could the team have handled him better? Maybe. But has he ever been handled properly? Anywhere? By any coach or GM that he has ever had? Ever? No. He's been a problem everywhere he's been and that alone supports my opinion that it is impossible to handle Marbury properly. There is no right way to deal with the man.

These are not secrets of the Illuminati. Everyone around the league knows Marbury and his history. Our handling of Marbury will not be pinned to the franchise unless the front office stoops to diabolical levels. All that has been done so far is the same that has been done with highly-paid malcontents of the past. Tim Thomas, Antoine Walker, Jamaal Tinsley, etc. They have all had the same treatment at one time or another. Nothing extraordinary here. Only difference is that it's happening in NY.

You obviously have your way of looking at this and I have mine, so I dont think we're going to come to any sort of resolution.

Dolan going lower in his demands, to me, is getting punked out. We're not screwing with Marbury at all. Nothing in life is for free, if he wants to go, then he needs to forfeit some of his money (2 million is way more than fair) If he doesnt want to do that, then it is his decision to sit at home which is fine by me.

And even if there was some sort of buyout, Marbury and the Knicks will be inextricably linked for the forseeable future. Everything he does, especially this year, will be a referendum on the Knicks and the press will have a field day. I think we are actually doing ourselves a P.R favor by keeping him at the house.

Yep. Just let Marbury drop 30 in the Garden wearing a Green jersey and see how some of these cats around here react.
