Hah! He's not even American!!!

He's not even black either! (lol...)

Seriously though can the media just let the man do his job and stop bringing up the whole "black thing" and going to interview teenage hoodlums down on their luck who can't speak proper english being raised by 50 cent giving a whole tilt towards the racist thing with this? "Yeah m-f'er OBAMA m-f'er whitey like gettin whut he disurv en shyt!"

Community leaders saying he's the new Dr. King.

Or the interviewing of 90 year old women who were decendents of slaves crying and saying they're afraid the white man's going to lynch him, etc.

I can't take that crap. Enough already. LET THE MAN DO HIS JOB IN PEACE!

It's frustrating.... He's Barack Obama, our President. He's not some black guy that took over the white house with intent to enslave the white race --- but --- the MEDIA wants it to be that way.

Enough with this garbage. Let the man do his job, stop calling him "black", call him Mr. President, which he is....

But, no, we gotta have all this garbage surrounding it and the media LOVES poking sticks at just the right people to elicit JUST the RIGHT responses for their demographically run programs.

It kinda makes me sick to be honest.... let the man do his job as a man. Not a BLACK man or whatever... just a man.

Again, nope, we can't have that! No way! BLEH!

With president-elect Barack Obama soon to be sworn in as the nation’s leader, a new presidential limousine was in call for and once again General Motors was assigned the task of building it. Nicknamed ‘The Beast’, the limo is based on a number of GM platforms and shares components with several different vehicles.

“Cadillac is honored to again provide a new Presidential Limousine,” said Mark McNabb, North America vice president, Cadillac/Premium Channel. “This is a great American tradition that we’re delighted to renew with an all-new car featuring the best of Cadillac’s dramatic design and technology.”

Its exterior is styled around the Cadillac STS and DTS but underneath the sheet-metal the vehicle is built on a medium-duty truck chassis. The limo has recently been seen testing in prototype form alongside several GMC Topkick pickups, and according to onlookers the wheels and tires on the limo are almost identical to those on the trucks – 19.5in Goodyear Regional RHS tires.

The rest of the exterior includes parts from several Cadillac models, such as headlights from an Escalade, and the grille and taillights from an STS. The panels are comprised of dual-hardness steel, aluminum, titanium and ceramic material to help break up projectiles aimed at the car.

Inside, the car features the same cut-and-sewn handmade leather upholstery found in the CTS. The rear passenger area includes an extensive executive compartment with ample seating space, outward visibility and useful mobile office features. An embroidered presidential seal is positioned in the center of the rear seat back panel, as well as on each rear door trim panel. Presidential seals are also affixed to the exterior rear doors.

Other safety and high-tech features include 8in thick armor-plated doors (each weighing the same as a cabin door on a Boeing 757), an independent oxygen supply and advanced fire-fighting system located in the boot, pump-action shotguns, night-vision cameras and tear-gas cannons, Obama’s own personal storage of blood, Kevlar-reinforced tires that are puncture and shred-resistant, and special steel wheels that can drive without the tire attached.

All of this comes at a heavy weight penalty, with top speed rated at 60mph (96km/h) and fuel-economy expected to be about 8mpg.

Obama will first use the limo when he travels along Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington after his inauguration.

damn, what is with you & this black thing? this isn't all about him just being the first black President... he's also the first minority that's taken office in this nation... that's sorta a big deal to many even tho it may not be for you... what's so bad about celebrating the fact that this is the first minority who's ever been elected President? there's an awful lot of minorities & immigrants to this country who have fought & struggled all their lives & have waited a long time to see this day happen... the fact that Obama's a minority may be insignificant to you but it's very important to a lot of others who live in this country.

& btw, plenty of whites, Asians & Latinos are into the car modding scene too, stop stereotyping.

What's bad about it is the tag they attach to him. He's an educated man taking office. Nothing more. I have no problem with the evolution of minorities being discussed and race relations hailed as a break through (although, we have a long way to go, and lets face it nobody will ever live in harmony with his fellow man in the end, but toleration has come a long way at least). Yet we're talking about the US President here. When you attach race to the man you attach racism to the man and that's not fair.

If we keep talking about people with their racial background attached to them then racism will never die. "Yeah I spoke to Jerome today." ("who?") "You know the black guy at work..." ("Oh, I know who youre talking about.").

See what I mean?

"African-American" "Black Man".

What is it with this garbage?

He can't be an American? He can't be a man?

Hey, I'm Italian. I've never heard anyone say "Yeah, that white guy Cosmic you know who I'm talking about." or "Yeah the Italian-American Cosmic."

Nope. Never heard it. Never care to. Yet for some reason. He's not Barack Obama. He's "The African-American Barack Obama" or "The Black Man Barack Obama."

How about... Mr. President? Or... Barack Obama?

Nope, Gotta be The Black Man.

Again, you attach those words to a man and you keep racism alive. No need to declare his race. None.

He's an educated man who became a politician who became President.

Yet people want to attach "Black" to him and either use it as a negative, as racist white folks who are screaming "son of a bitch a n''''r got elected!" or for racist black folks who are celebrating "yeah m'fer whitey gunna get his now!".

It....just brings out the worst in people....so to me it's time to stop with the whole "African-American" crap and just call him what he is. An American.

What's so hard to understand my rant on this? Maybe it's just me. Probably just me I guess. Yet people are acting like they're watching the special olympics here. "Oh a black guy got elected? That's so good! Let's applaud the black race for producing a president! Wheee!"

It's stupid and it's unneeded.

Instead of him being able to celebrate being elected as President he has to endure being "A Black President".

It's lame.

And, despite a number of my rants sucking ass, I think this one is pretty valid.

Let the man lead our country as a man. Not as a "BLACK" man. A man.

What's so hard to understand here?

Again, I guess it's just me, so I'll shut the **** up now, and hope Obama is the man for the job to restore this country and thus the world to more prosperous times.

racism will go on as long as ignorant people exist in this country... removing the race labels to identify our President isn't going to get rid of it... the fact of the matter is that he's a minority of mixed heritage... just because u don't talk about it doesn't change it... racist people are going to hate him because of this fact whether we talk about it or not... it's just a sad reality.

he is our President also... everyone is able to celebrate it, whether you're black, white, Asian, Latino or whatever else... but the minority factor adds special meaning to other minorities in this country & is worth celebrating as well... when u consider the history of this country in terms of race relations & in particular towards African Americans, u cannot simply gloss over the fact that we now have a minority President taking office today... it's a historical day in our history & much more than just your run of the mill Presidential Inauguration.

I agree with you 100% but... Why you want to take the celebration away from people who never believe in this?
For some this is dream come through. I can understand this. And I think they deserve it.
For some it is also a wakeup call - no more excuses, time to move on.
I do think this is historic moment regardless how it will go for him in the office.
And if he will be able to bring a little close the time when people will stop calling each other by race, national descent, gender, or sex orientation he will get his legacy… Even a little bit closer…

I prefer to judge a man by the content of his character and not by the color of his skin but I understand greatly the significance of President Barack Obama taking office. I hope and pray that Obama does as well in office as I believed he would when I voted for him. I think "Hope" should be the theme of the day.

Having said all that, can we not turn this thread into an argument about race? If this is going to go off tangent, can we go in the direction that TMS has already started?

Cosmic, I think (I hope) you realized that I was just joking. People make a big thing about him being black because of the deep seated racism that still exists in this country. The POTUS is the most important man in the country, if not the world. For Obama to be elected to that position will hopefully continue the healing process that this country has been going through since slavery ended. Obama can be an example to the backward people in this country that a black man can run the world and everything won't fall apart. I already knew that to be the case, but many in America don't believe it.
