So right now that's the 10th and 40th picks in the 09 draft.

JO is clearly done as a reliable player but we wouldn't be doing such a trade for that. He would use up an extra roster spot and cost Dolan ~40 million that he would not otherwise be spending if we just let Marbury expire.

So you got to ask: Would Dolan allow that?
Also ask: Does Toronto view 09 cap space valuable enough to give up the #10 and #40 picks in the 09 draft?

I like the idea but I just have to doubt Dolan and the Raptors signing off.

I'm not sure why the Raptors would give us O'Neal and both of their draft picks for a guy that hasnt played a minute all year.

a trade like that would practically guarantee that Bosh will want outta there in 2010... it's a lot of money for them to save but i don't think Colangelo would sign off on a trade like that... it might sound fair on paper but i don't think it's a trade that TOR would consider... how do u justify to your franchise player that trading for Marbury & giving up draft picks will help them improve?

How about free agency next year for a trade that has gone bad and 22.5mm off the books next year. His $$ is taking up a third of their cap. For our team--I dont care about the $$ for one year and maybe Oneal can stay healthy next year if given less minutes.

Taking 22.5mm off of someone's books is major moolah for their trade gone very bad. they are better off with Bargnani at C and Bosh at PF and bringing back a gimpy Oneal isnt the answer--its a bad trade for them they they need to get out of--but it has a cost.

My mistake, Briggs. I mistakenly thought JOneal was up after this year. My mistake, I agree with your proposal then.

He's a gimp]and they know it now] signed for just 1.5 years. He's a FA when Bosh is a FA--they are better off going into FA THIS year and we can help them obtain that.

yes but even if they remove JO's $22 mil off their cap next year, they still won't have enough cap space to sign any max guys... so this just leaves them w/o a 1st round pick this year & fiscal savings for ownership, but no real gains in terms of talent being added to the team... IMO if you're Bosh & your team does this w/o gaining the ability to replace JO w/a better player, i don't see how it makes him wanna remain there to play when he becomes a FA.

I don't see them giving up the picks, but they may go for that straight up.

That puts them at 45mm which would be under the cap enough to sign a player to a 60mm contract in a year where cap space is rare around the league. It's either that or go with the same team which is brutal with Oneal better without him. Yes they can get a pick to help the team next year--but my bet is Bosh would rather they bought a 60mm vet and a full MLE with NBA players that fit their system.

Why the heck would the Knicks do it for? He's a gimp who will get 22.5mm next year. The going rate for that should be 2 first round picks. It was a bad trade and in the nBA it's not easy to get out of bad trades.

Better to take the 22.5 mil hit for another year than basically piss away your future picks. Teams are learning that. They're better off getting what they can from J.O. and getting some young guys then a short term Marbury and then possibly not being able to allocate that money elsewhere next year.

on a side note, marbury would've done a 10X better job than duhon.

I'm not sure about that. Am I the only one who thinks that Marbury has had declining physical ability for 2-3 years now? He went from finishing practically every layup to rarely finishing. He doesn't have the explosiveness or quickness he had 3-4 yrs ago and that, as much as fighting with coaches, has had as much to do with his decline.

the whole offense is predicated on getting into the paint and finding the open man. marbury, even in his gimp self today would be better at it than duhon.

I dunno, he doesn't really have the first step anymore, and we already know that D'Antoni didn't like the way he ran the offense when he had him the first.

I don't think he was ever really an option. I think he played in the preseason as an audition for other teams, but once it mattered they had no intention of using him.
