The Knicks desperately need another unselfish ballhandler in the frontcourt.

Playing Jefferies is like running four on five.

HOUSTON - Rookie Danilo Gallinari practiced for the first time since early November today at Houston's Toyota Center, but still could be at least two weeks before he plays. Gallinari played the season's first two games - a total of 11 minutes before having to shut it down again because of a disc relapse.

The Knicks won't rush him like they did last time for the season opener after just a few practices. Gallinari, who missed all the preseason games, participated in a lengthy 4-on-4 scrimmage, showed plenty of stamina but missed a lot of his long-range bombs.

The Knicks were ecstatic to see Gallinari back on the floor in contact situations. This is what amount to great news now as the Knicks are well on pace to another 50-loss season. It's the last hope of the season - that Gallinari is the piece that makes the offense hum again, as Nate Robinson and Al Harrington experience shooting problems.

But D'Antoni cautioned that Gallinari's first few games might not be pretty. "Everyone's in midseason form and you're in October form,'' D'Antoni said. "He may have setbacks, might not look good.

"The biggest thing he can do is make shots and be able to spread the floor,'' D'Antoni added. "He doesn't have to create a lot. He just needs to catch and shoot, play a little defense then he can add to his game.''

I'm really looking forward to seeing Gallinari back out on the court.

that's true but did you see the play last night where jeffries got a defensive board, dirbbled the length of the court on a fast break and threw an alley-oop to chandler for a bucket???

The same people who are calling him a bust due to injury will flame him when he sucks in his first few games back.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

LOL, I know you are right, but it would only last till he shows what kind of player he really is. And if that is good to great, we need to make a list of all those here who were bashing and criticizing him and make it into a sticky and or signature always there to remind those who... doubted the Rooster.

Curry's back and now Gallinari. The season has been saved. Playoffs for sure.

Marv - Jeffries has his moments but I look forward to Gallinari dribbling against token backcourt pressure in the tradition of Anthony Mason, finding Duhon at the left side of the arc who, in turn hits The Mayor at the foul line extended. Chandler then finds Gallo, wide open in the corner, after running off a David Lee pick....

Pharzeone, it really saddens me to see you put Curry in the same sentence with Gallo. Injury and all, it should not be done. It's like basketball sacrilege.

I think Gallinari is intimidated by the NBA. He'll be rusty for sure but I think it's his confidence that may take a while. The NBA is more rough and tumble than Euro-ball. I welcome him back but won't count on him for much, hopefully he can prove me wrong.

Marv - if Gallinari is 75 per cent the player Connie Hawkins was in his prime, then you don't need to kvetch over waiting on Lebron.

The beauty of Gallinari returning by February is that he gets a taste of the NBA tempo before Summer League. Fans will hopefully be patient with his learning curve and baby steps as he works into the flow.

Kid is probably going to look like crud and get lambasted around here.

I hope he's got some game - if so we'll probably see a bit of it this year and hopefully he has a productive summer with no setbacks.

Come on Gallo -- please show me some big time skills because I have my doubts.

Did everyone learn from the McCain/Palin campaign to make sure to set the bar low?

Seriously, I don't think he will get blasted like you guys think for a couple of reasons. The first being that this isn't his first time on the Garden floor, how quickly did you guys forget that he already played in two games when he was "ok". Second, some posters don't expect a lot out of him before the injury issue and probably expect even less now. It will be a running joke and a bunch of I told you so but that is a given with almost even pick no living up to the hype. Go check out the Blazer site which is sometimes flooded with fans taking shots at Oden (Laker fans can be cruel).

I expect rust but the excuses have to stop. I don't want to hear about back trouble when he comes back if his back injury was not a big deal or a normal injury as stated on this forum.

If you step on the court then you eligible for criticism like any other player. Many of you guys have no problem launching at the other players on this team. Or is there a rule about not criticizing European rookies?
