Jason Kidd has bought into the hype that the Knicks will be a major player in the highly-anticipated free agent summer of 2010.

"It's a great place. That's one of the best stages on professional sports," Kidd said Thursday. "When you talk about the likes of those free agents, you can have a better situation being able to not just get one, but get 2 1/2. So we'll see."

Players like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh are expected to become free agents in the summer of 2010.

Kidd is a member of the 2009 class, but wouldn't rule out New York as a possible destination.

"Yeah, why not? I'm going to look and see," Kidd said with a smile. "Coach [D'Antoni] is great. I got to know him a little this summer [with the Olympic team]. D'Antoni has a great philosophy. I think people enjoy watching that."

Unless Kidd wants to play for the MLE, we cannot afford him. Plus, I think he is getting close to being done. By 2010, Kidd will need to be a backup pg playing 13-20 minutes a game.

I would rather have a backup Nash in 2010 for the MLE.

if he signs a 1 year deal this season, i might prefer Kidd over Nash in 2010 to be honest... he plays much better defense & is a much better rebounder... Nash is a better scorer & obviously plays well in MDA's system but by 2010 i think he'll have lost a lot of his quickness... Nash will be 36 & Kidd will be a few months older at 37 by then... i think Kidd's size at the PG position will help him be more productive longer into his career than Nash overall.

LOL

Relax about Jason Kidd. He'd be 37 and not getting anything more than a vet minimum.

Besides, this should not be a thread about Jason Kidd. It's about what he said about us being able to sign 2 star FAs and another solid FA in 2010 for various reasons.

Nice of ya's to completely miss that little nugget and go right for "OMG KIDD FOR MLE NO WAY COS YOURE AN IDIOT".

Kidd's still a good player and a tripple double threat every day (plus almost 3 steals a game). He'll get WAY more than the Vet's min. He'll get a full MLE for a few years. Maybe he could get Eddy a lot of easy looks and inflate Eddy's stats and trade value (at least a little). I think guys like Lebron and Wade or Joe Johnson as a 2nd tier option would love to play with Kidd.

I agree somewhat. Nash's quickness isn't what made him a two time MVP, its his knowledge of the game and his court awareness. I'll put Kidd one notch below in that category, but his rebounding and size may help in the long run.

that's fair... i also think if we were to sign say Lebron & Bosh for argument's sake, then our PG wouldn't be the one orchestrating as much, Lebron would... so in that case it might be better to have a guy like Kidd who can defend on the perimeter, patrol the passing lanes on defense & grab some boards to start the fastbreak the other way... not that i wouldn't mind having Nash either obviously... either guy on a mid level contract would be a bargain in 2010.

i say we should sign up J Kidd to a MLE contract this offseason & look to trade Nate at the trade deadline... J Kidd & Duhon would be an ideal combo at the PG position for us next year.

I dunno fellas...reading the snippet kinda suggests that Kidd for Marbs is actually being talked about. Kidd saying 2 and a half stars?...Cuban loves Marbs...Mavs and Kidd not really fitting. I dunno....

Figures he would be angling to get to the Knicks when he is washed up and way past his prime. Sigh.

I'd do this one. Dallas gets rid of everyone they want to and the only thing we give up is Chandler. We get depth at the 1, 2, 3 & 4 and a little more balance and they get some scoring production to replace the loss of Howard, some depth at the 2 & 3, Marbury who they like and a couple of talented young guys. I think it's an even swap and we change the losing culture around here in one trade.

Kidd is good friends with a lot of guys in the NBA. He's not just blowing smoke. He knows guys want to play in NY.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

This trade idea makes sense to me.

Dallas gets a point guard that makes sense for what Carlisle and Dirk have traditionally been used to. Marbs is a drive and kick scoring point guard. They need a spark off the bench....Nate allows Terry to start at the 2 where he belongs. Q can provide help off the bench...Wilson Chandler adds a different look for Dallas at the 3.

Bringing me to the Knicks. Howard is a shooting guard playing the 3. Knicks need his aggressiveness and scoring ability. Howard needs to run. Kidd needs to run as well. D'antoni's system is tailor made for both. David and Al Harrington can solidify the 3-4 for now....Stack might be done but Shawne Williams is still a nice talent.

Trade makes tones of sense.....for this season and next.

If the Knicks sign a 37 year old point guard who has had micro fracture surgery and whose stats and impact on his team have decreased significantly over the past three years I will have to stop following them and only check to see when the current regime has been replaced or the owner moves on. The Knicks finally do not need a point guard. They also need to have a plan and stick to it. Kidd has a bit of a Messier mystique but he is not that guy and he no longer has that talent.

i disagree... Kidd has put up some pretty good statlines this season, including a triple double & a few other games where he's come pretty close... at 36 he's averaging 8.6 ppg / 8.3 ast / 6.5 reb / 2.5 stl in 35.5 mpg & still plays solid defense, not bad for a has-been.
