Gallinari closer. Danilo Gallinari, who worked up a heavy sweat in shooting and light contact drills during practice yesterday, said he is feeling the best he has since the summer when he suffered a disc protrusion during the July summer league. But the Knicks rookie, who said he is still feeling some pain in his leg as a result of a nerve issue related to the injury, isn't sure how soon he will be ready to get back on the court. "It's improving," he said.

Improving? Seriously, he's had like 6 months basically of rest. Is he not doing any kind of exercise for his back?

He's been on a permanent "will reevaluate in 2 to 4 weeks" schedule ever since July. It never changes. After all this time either go get surgery or retire.

Alright, I'll start the parade of doom.

Its funny how all these doctors cant see whats painfully obvious. He needs some sort of surgery. If hes not healing, he needs surgery. I called it over the summer that they should just give him the surgery then and get it over with.

With any injury, surgery is usually treated as a last resort after all other approaches have failed or are likely to fail and not even worth trying. Surgery doesn't mean he'll recover sucessfully also. I'm no medical doctor but at this point surgery sounds like something they'll have to do.

What is the big deal? Gallo says he is feeling better and there is SOME pain in his leg. The fact that his back isn't bothering him anymore sounds like good news to me.

He is still close to coming back. If this comeback somehow gets shut down, THEN you can start to panic. But no reason for a quote saying he still feels some pain in his legs when we don't know if that is part of his full recovery. The fact that he didn't include his back is positive. He has been running drills and shooting, for the many reports we've gotten, so it could just be a normal result of that.

I'd say don't panic. Just wait.

We all feel pain with this team...
With Galo they should keep him resting up to Summer league.
It will be clear by then how bad it is.

I literally had a dream last night that Gallinari was suited up and playing in a regular season game.

What a sad dream life.

Do you think you can rebuild in NY? Cause your patience level suggests otherwise.

I am quite patient about this rebuilding process. On the other hand bad games will still upset me so I'm still going to react to them. Reading that Gallo is still hurt is certainly grating on my nerves because every two weeks we hear he's getting better and is two weeks away. They've been saying that since July. It has not changed.

That is frustrating. Can't I be frustrated with his complete lack of progress and seeming lip service from our team about the situation? I don't see where patience should play into talking about Gallo. Maybe it's just me but you draft a player with the hopes he will play. Either get surgery or get sent home until next season. Then I wouldn't even care if they just said he's done for the year. This 2 weeks thing is the annoying part.

Anyways this has nothing to do with patience and I am the last person on this board that wants us to go back to doing what Isiah did here all these years. I'm a huge advocate of tearing down this roster and then building it back up. I've said numerous times we won't even start building the new team until July of 2010.

So I really had a hard time understanding why you think I'm impatient with either Gallo or Walsh.

well, take everything with a bit more grain of salt I guess. Just also note: Walsh and/or MDA haven't really given the 2 week deadline every 2 weeks. That's just false. Gallo hurt himself in preseason, made a little of a comeback and actually played minutes, probably rushed back cause he was out again, and now is only a very long timetable to make sure it's right. Could be 2 weeks, could be longer.

If you have never had major surgery before, as Bonnie has suggested in another post, you just don't get surgery to get surgery cause something is wrong; the best thing to do is wait, and waiting could be 2 weeks and could mean otherwise. Surgery is ALWAYS the last option.

Our media is FORCED to report every little aspect of everything cause it's NY, that means if MDA is asked about Gallo and says "we'll see in a couple of weeks", Berman is going to see if he has anything Marbury related and if he doesn't will post something like "Coach says Gallo will be back in 2 weeks" which is not actually 100% what we need to hear.

I'm assuming that Gallo won't be playing this year. I dont' think management will rush him back so if he there is a possibility of aggravating it again he won't play. No need to risk setting him back this far into the season. No need rushing him back, having a setback and then going through this same thing again next year. He loses a year of development, but hopefully with a year off he can heal properly. If he does make it back at this point and is healthy, it's a bonus.

At the draft I was actually interviewed by some Celtics reporter who wanted my reaction about the Gallinari pick (since he saw me wearing a Lee jersey).

My reaction was "I think Gallinari can be a very good player in the NBA but as Donnie Walsh said, we cannot afford to screw this pick up. It is a risky pick and I think we would be better off with someone like Eric Gordon, Brook Lopez, or even Bayless. I think those guys will be ready to play from day one. Gallinari is our pick though, so I will support him and I hope he develops into the kind of player we need."

My reaction hasn't changed one bit....

It sucks that we don't have a rookie making an impact right now, at the same time, we have to be patient and give Gallinari a chance to prove his worth. I know most of us don't doubt Gallinari the player (we are all much more skeptical about the injury) but sometimes you have to take a leap of faith. I'm no doctor or anything but it seems like he is going to need surgery at some point (as Elite pointed out). I just hope this kid can recover physically and have a long career with us.
