Walsh was on the team charter yesterday en route to OKC. I read somewhere that he said he wants to see how the team plays on the road. OKC is a team looking for an identity with a good home fan base. They have some players they want to move by the trade deadline...a few of which are expiring contracts which we know Walsh has an appetite for. This deal works straight up:

Curry for Smith and Mason http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=4909446 and both contracts are expiring.

Or

Curry and Roberson for Smith and Mason http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=4909481

the gm of okc is a buford disciple in san antonio. the chances they are interested in curry is slim and none. also, that's the last time you'll see the words "curry" and "slim" in the same sentence.

I heard it just the other day. "The chances that Eddie Curry will get in shape are slim and none"
I just hope that people will like me

I found this one in the paper from a few years ago.

"when I walked out on the court I noticed that Jamal Crawford is slim and Eddie Curry is fat"

Ever heard of Slim Jims? I bet Curry can eat a box of Slim Jims on the bus from the hotel to the areana.

Isn't having a dominating big man part of the Buford style?

not when the guy is 345 pounds and hasn't played in months. not to mention how the guy there engineered some brilliant deals to acquire then shed salary to get more draft picks (i.e. kurt thomas deals).

Ok, maybe so, but follow me here for a minute. If they are to take a big man through the draft it will take a few years to develop him so you get 2+1/2 years of Curry and maybe they get a high lottery pick and land their stud in the 2009 draft. They got Curry for basically nothing and don't give up any draft picks in return and have two years to develop their guy. No self respecting FA is going to sign with them so their best bet is to develop someone young. anyways, this is what it does for us:

We shed Curry for two serviceable expiring's. With Marbury, Rose, Robinson, lee, Mobley (exemption), Smith and Mason coming off the books we are pretty close to being under the cap for 2009 a year ahead of schedule. There are a couple of nice pieces coming available in the 2009 FA market. native New Yorker Lamar Odom for one. Odom at PF, James at SF and Wade at SG has a pretty nice ring to it eh? Ok, maybe I'm getting a little carried away but come on, that would be purty freekin' nice eh?

Second stop on the road trip in Dallas. Marbury for Kidd and we got our back up point guard. Woo Hoo, Donnie's going to be a busy guy on this road trip

Dude, I'm serious. Kidd for Marbury is a good trade for both teams. We get a back up PG for Duhon and they satisfy that man love thing that they have for Marbury and Kidd expires in 2009. Curry to OKC gives them an experienced NBA big man that they need and we get some depth at the SG and PF/C positions that we need. Both Smith and Mason expire in 2009 and OKC is going to have a fire sale so we might as well be first to the party. The Houston thing was a joke, but I'm serious about the rest. Now that we have cap space for 2010 we should be going for cap space in 2009 so we can start to rebuild sooner than later....besides, I covet Odom and we can get him if we can clear the roster some more. Also, Nash might be available and we know that likes him. 2009 could look something like - Nash, Odom, Chandler, Gallinari, Duhon, Nate, and Harrington. Q-rich and Thomas's expiring contracts would be easier to move and we could go for a center in the draft....I'm just saying

Kidd's salary expires after this season, same as Steph... it doesn't make sense for the Mavs at all dude... Kidd is a much better PG than Steph is & doesn't carry all that baggage along w/him either... the Mavs just gave up Devin Harris & 2 future 1st round picks to bring Kidd there, they ain't gonna trade him away now for Dinglebury bro.

as for having cap space in '09, there's just way too many contracts we need to dump to make that happen... not only do u have to get rid of Curry for an expiring contract, but u also need to do the same for Q Rich & Jefferies as well... it ain't happening.

Yes and yes...but while Walsh said that he was going on the road trip to observe our Knicks players, it is entirely possible that he is also going on the road to evaluate the possible options for trade discussions with the teams we are playing. While I don't know who he is interested in, it does seem possible that he wants to see some players for himself and he will be engaged in trying to find matches with OKC atleast. We'll see if he also travels to Dallas and Houston with the team. OKC has some nice expiring contracts and they want to move them for future pieces. Just an observation of course. TMS, are there any trade possibilities you see that I haven't mentioned?
