our 2010 number 1 pick back + a 2009 Utah second rounder

That alleviates 6.5mm off of the Utah books which the desperately need and gives us the assets to possibly get a high pick OR the right to use the picks to get rid of Curry in a combo deal.

Trey johnson is as good as Almond, IMO, and would be free.

Did sound a little lopsided.

I am dying to see this Almond play considering how hot of a topic he consistently is around here.

I wonder what it would take to get Odom or Battier here to play the pick and roll Lee's trying to but with more height and better D on the other end.
Almond, Harpring doesn't do much even if you could get that done. Who are they taking mins from?

Isn't Lamar Odom expiring anyway?

This would be a very merry christmas indeed if we could get all that for Malik.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

Im sorry you dont follow basketball to hard but Utah is in a bind in terms of their salary cap next year. We would be taking 6.5MM +_an additional 2.6mm in luxury tax off of their hand[a total saving of 9.1mm$] for our essentially our pick back the Jazz second rounder and two guys who dont play. Utah received our pick for much LESS than 6.5mm. That is a deal that is more than fair

TMS you dont follow basketball pass the Knicks I guess---Matt Harpring is a bit player now--hardly worth a minimum contract let alone 13mm$

Even better. Would have to be something like Marbs and Lee to match, but I can't see them doing that.

apparently u don't follow the Knicks i guess if u think Malik Rose is netting us anything more than a bit role player at this point... to think we'd be able to milk a 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick AND a prospect out of any team for him in a deal is downright idiotic... this latest trade idea of yours is just a slight notch above the other brilliant one u suggested last week to trade D Lee for Marcus Williams, & that's not saying much... i find it hilarious how u choose to downgrade people's knowledge of the NBA whenever people don't agree w/1 of your hair brained schemes to improve this franchise.

It's called an ending contract--understand the concept--we give them the ending contract--they save 9mm dollars next year with salary and tax. In return we get assets--this is how Utah obtained our pick via Phoenix. It's done nearly every year in the NBA. I siad we should trade David Lee for Branden Wright Randolph and Williams. I guess you forgot the first two because you have no idea who they are

In one thread you say we shouldn't go after any 3point shooters and then about 10 minutes later you make this thread

The primary reason I would do the deal--and make no mistake Utah WOULD do a deal like this in terms of thei finances--is to return our 2010 UNRESTRICTED pick asset to us--it's an enormous asset. Utah is saving 9.1mm if they do the deal--so it is very reasonable for them to add in a 2nd rounder 2009 and contracts match Harpring/Almond Rose. We may need that asset--very much like Boston used it for Ray Allen or to get rid of Curry before the 2010 draft. It's an important asset and it would be nice to get it back.

I don't know why everyone is giving Briggs a hard time HERE. Ok, he was ranting a couple of months ago due to Gallo Fever but I see his point here.

From the way I see it, Briggs is saying Utah has salary cap issues and would give us a prospect (Almond) as well as our pick back if we take on salary for next year. I think that is easy to understand and relatively straight forward. Next we COULD use either of those to help move Curry, if need be. But we may not have to. Those are real assets unlike Isiah assets.

I can agree with Briggs here. But lets not stop there. What other teams are needing to shed salary? Portland could use a veteran... Remember we have a year to wait, though we can always pick someone up in 2009...

Ideas???

We're taking $6.5 m off their caps. That's a pretty small amount in NBA terms--it's not like the 50 mil Zach was owed or $30 mil Eddy is owed. Maybe one asset like a pick in the 20s but nothing more.
