This is why players should have agents. The fact that he likely spent time on this is funny as hell. It will be a nice minor subplot in the movie.

December 9, 2008 --
While banished from the Knicks, Stephon Marbury was pursued relentlessly by a pair of alleged Swiss bankers claiming to have connections to Real Madrid. Marbury, after discovering their intricate plot was a hoax, was considering turning over information to law-enforcement officials about the contact.

KNICKS BLOG

The alleged investors, who identified themselves to The Post through phone calls and e-mails as working for Union Bank Suisse, gave their names and claimed they were trying to sign him to a multi-million dollar sponsorship contract that can be parlayed into a deal with the Real Madrid basketball club.

Marbury said he returned calls and e-mails from the investors Saturday.

"They're phonies, it's a hoax," said Marbury.

More real is Marbury's hope the Knicks will take action in the coming days and grant his release, though Players Association attorney Hal Biagas is out of town. Donnie Walsh said last week he is "open to negotiations." Walsh last talked to Biagas last Thursday.

Meanwhile, a representative of the alleged investors have called The Post, The Associated Press and the The New York Times dozens of times over the past five days to promote their plan of Marbury playing for Real Madrid with a marketing deal worth 12 million Euros. They also have claimed Walsh spoke to Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon about the scenario in which the Knicks only would have to pay Marbury a small portion of the contract. It was all a farce. Walsh has said repeatedly he has had no contract with Real Madrid. marc.berman@nypost.com

I wonder if these guys were trying to get NoAgentBury to send them money so they could get him set up in Europe? Maybe the real truth would be funnier.

Im thinking either that or some knick fans are pulling his leg. Be funny if he was running around hyping the lords work in getting him to Real Madrid and he was gonna factorially make a ton more money!

be great to get the details. Can't make this stuff up.

Am I alone in thinking he may possibly wind up flat broke when his playing career ends?

here's my favorite marbury tidbit from the day... berman wrote it, but it's so clearly directly from the mouth of marbs...
Makes some sense. But when the "perfect storm'' arrived and all the guards disappeared, Marbury had already moved on to another place mentally when D'Antoni asked him to be the starting shooting guard the rest of the season in Detroit on Thanksgiving Eve. (Note, that role wouldn't have effected Duhon's spot, only enhanced ).

move on to another place mentally? yes, we call that place crazy town.

One less person that hates your butt if you're Marbury.

I think A. Walker went a long time without an agent also. To be honest Marbury up until this point has done well without an agent. He needs to just deal with not playing and tryout for a team in the offseason.

Nope, he won the negotiation and did not realize it because he's a MORON!!!

Walsh wanted 15M - that's a 7M paycut - that's unfair honestly.
Marbury said 20.9M - that's a 1M paycut - somewhat fair given he does have a guaranteed contract.
Walsh countered with 3M which would be 18.9M dollars! - That's a major compromise in HoaxBury's favor.

Someone gives you that you can put it in the bank, sign a vet minimum elsewhere, and make up the lousy 1.8M or whatever in interest!

Yet, FoxHoleBury didn't realize that he actually won! AND the Knicks were to waive the 400K fine too!

....so now it's really stupid.

What's going to happen if a deal is not reached is come March 2nd, when a released Marbury can't be on any playoff roster, the Knicks will pay him his remaining, what 2M dollars by then to go away after earning everything else sitting on the bench and screwing around with us.

I still say both sides blink and it comes to terms in the next week or so. Walsh was willing to go as far as 3M? So what if he comes back with 2.5M... someone ought to kick RealMadridBury in the nuts and tell him to take it. That might just happen.

Troubled, talented players need agents. Immature, less inteligent, talented players need agents. Marbury desprately needs an agent and adviser.

To me it doesn't make sense. And agent's job is to hit the phones and find opportunities for you. They are also trained to do this. Why would you want to take it on?

No Commissions!

...and in a case like Marbury who like him or not is somewhat of a forward thinker: I don't want anyone telling me what to do when I have a good idea of what to do!

You know, like his donation sprees for instance.

They do take a pretty large cut for really not doing much of anything. But overall, you're correct.
