Marbury offered to give up 1mm $ in salary--I guess he had a standing offer to the Knicks and has now taken it off the table.

Honestly if Marbury went to the reasonable limit--giving back what he could make without losing salary--then this is all on the Knicks. I don't blame Marbury at all--he tried to make a FAIR deal weeks ago. That wouldve saved the Knicks 2mm 1 in salary and 1 in taxes--that was not a bad deal. Now they are going to eat the two mm and no deal will happen. No big deal but whoever is running MSG just let 2mm walk away.

Marbury is only hurting himself by not taking that buyout. I don't understand the point in the offer by the Knicks, but Marbury is being quite dumb.

Walsh appears to be looking for a good deal in buying out marbury. It's just not going to happen unless the Knicks can suspend Marbury without pay.

Dolan does not wanna buy him out unless he capitulates to certain conditions obviously, & the $1 mil is nowhere close to what the Knicks expect him to agree to... it's a poker game between 2 morons, what else do u guys expect? send Marbs home w/o supper & bury this issue in the garbage... stop addressing questions about Marbs... treat him like he's no longer a NY Knick... that's the only way this issue will ever be resolved to Dolan's liking... Dolan doesn't give a crap about the money, it's the principle he's unwilling to budge on.

With Marbury exiled, little theatrics like this are his last means of attention.

Go Steph! With drama being all the Knicks have to offer right now you're definitely giving us our money's worth. I'm rooting for you to 'bury your career and you're doing a better job than I could have imagined. You go boy! (and never come back)

$1 mm buyout is bullpoop. If this is the route the team is going to go, may as well give him the Penny Hardaway treatment and have access to his expiring contract for the trade deadline. It's possible the team could take on contracts that expire at 2010 plus a pick or something at the deadline to improve the team in the short term, and potentially the long term.

From what I been reading is that Walsh and Dolan want to dictate what team is going to pick him up. Which doesn't make sense. You can't buyout a player then demand he doesn't sign with your divisional rivals.

I think this is more a message to all the discontent players in the league that they are not going to dictate policy anymore.
I'm not really sure if I agree or disagree with things, but it seems like there is a message somewhere in it and it's clearly just not about the money. Though, it does make sense that cablevision wants to wait till after the 1st of the year to claim it's losses.

Marbury is an asset and I think we have to first explore if we can get anything for him then make sure he doesn't go to Miami, unless of course Miami takes does Curry for Marion (then I'd pay Marbury the full amount).

Very true, his expiring does hold some value. I think the team wants 3mm off his deal. Thats only 15% discount from full value. There is a standard percentage to which teams do buy out players. He long stated he was gonna get his money and that was that.

The union is trying but wouldn't they prefer he use an agent?

I think Miami is out as they are doing ok now and trying to build a culture around a new young coach. A contender does not need him. Dallas needs him as insurance and they are on the way down anyway.

Immagine him backing Kidd. That is an ego bruiser right there.

Both (KiddBUry) have expirings this year.

The advantage to buying him out is to save money and remove him as a distraction.

The advantage to exiling him is to keep him as a trading chip and to make him suffer.

Saving 1M means nothing to me, and the same goes for Dolan. Nor would I want to trade his contract. So it really boils down to, what's more important, releasing a distraction or extracting revenge.

I think there's an argument to be made that Marbury on another team, especially an eastern team, would still constitute a distraction here in NY. So that's something of a wash to. So it really boils down to whether it's worth a million dollars to Dolan to waste Marbury's career and the answer is yes, and I concur.

Thus, the perfect settlement has been found.

1 million, wow. What a bum. If he's serious about wanting to out, he should be prepared to sacrifice a minimum of $5 million a year. For what he's actually done to this team, he should have to sacrifice $50 million, but that won't happen.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

i don't agree that he's anywhere near being an asset at this point, if anything he's a liability... but anyway i'm sure Walsh has explored every possible trade option he can & is still doing so... he's not an idiot, he's gonna do his due diligence to get rid of this loser the most advantageous way as is possible... the fact that he's even discussing buyout options at this point should tell u all u need to know about Marbury's supposed value.

Kidd and Marbury would last as long together as a burger and fries in Eddy's locker.

Really...it makes perfect sense to me. If the Knicks are going to pay Steph all of that money and let him go, he must agree to some concessions....being less money, restrictions or both. Otherwise the Knicks just pay him and keep him on the roster.

I honestly dont see why you guys are interested in this story. Its just sad and played out. I feel like we're just providing oxygen and lighter fluid to this fire.

I'm just glad our financial obligation to Marbury doesnt extend beyond this year. There is an expiration date on this foolishness.

Wake me up when something of significance happens with this guy.

Yeah, I tend to agree. i had wanted him to play because, well, I don't think this team is any good and I'd like for them to flip whatever they can for value. But it looks like they may be proving me wrong, which is great. And considering how Marbury has crapped on this franchise, I think it is fitting that this child's legacy will be this. He'll get paid all right, but that's that. His legacy is that of an idiotic tragedy.
