Disclaimer: I don't usually create OT threads in the main forum, but dammit the holiday season is here and the garbage that these technology companies are putting us through is ridiculous.

We're not there yet. We wanna be there. But sadly, the idiots who design these electronic hand held gadgets, they are no better than the pharmaceutical companies dishing us the pills. They want you to be hooked, but not quite cure you. That would end their business, wouldn't it?

iPhone 3G / iPOD Touch - wonderful looking devices. Multi-touch screen (which is way better than the multi-tap screen as in Blackberry Storm). Email, internet, great vivid color, media, blah blah..........but this thing STILL doesn't have
1. Expandable memory card slot (of course THIS would resolve the
2. Landscape keyboard typing for text messages. It exists for web email, but God forbid, if Apple could have just thought, of oh hey we did it for email, might as well include it for SMS/text messages. Anyone who has ever typed on the iPhone/iPod touch will admit that unless you have french fry thin fingers.....you are about to mistype a lot.
3. 16 GB max for the iPhone 3G and 32 GB max for the iPod touch. I am sorry what? When did Napster first come out? Put a friggin 64 GB flash drive in there at least for both these devices. They are selling them online for 50-100 bucks and Apple's telling us they can't do that? Until 6 months from now, of course. Just put the 64 GB version out there and an extra 50 bucks on the tag and whoever can buy it..........buys it.

BlackBerry Storm: Finally a touch blackberry with landscape typing and a skinny figure. This device has an iPod touch form factor, has an expandable memory card slot. Their screen also packs more pixels in slightly lesser space, which of course improves resolution, but here goes.....
1. No Wi-fi. No wifi????? International roaming charges, no SMS, but the no Wifi part.......that is simply unacceptable. What is the point of having an internet device where I can't "save" by tagging on to a wifi network and surfing as I please. Sounds to me like the unlimited data plan is what they are FORCING YOU to get with this device.
2. 8 GB internal memory. Yeah sure, the iPhone 3G is only 1 step ahead with 16 GB, and this device does have an expandable memory slot, but 8 GB internal memory and charging you the same as the iPhone 8 GB. Why would I go with the Storm if they are not really beating their competition?
3. No multi touch. So you can do the multi-tapping thingy, but no zoom in zoom out with your fingers, no rotating images, etc. Sounds to me like they are hoping that the Verizon network will boost their sales. Good luck!!

Archos 7 series "Internet Media Tablet" (as they call it): The only smart thing that they have done is come out and said look here we are not following anyone, we are treading our own path (however stupid that path may be). Well 2 smart things. The other one is that fantastic 7 inch screen. Now for the sad stuff.....
1. It's great that they got the space thing right..........finally. This bad boy goes upto 320 GB. Nice, huh? You can store all your videos, music, images, ebooks, your mama's sweet potato pie recipe, I mean.......everything. With one nice little problem........ok not so little. You can feel the vibrations from the rotating HD in your palm. I guess it doubles up as a massaging device for your neck and back during those long days at the office.
2. They have their own versions of software you can download (like the iPhone/iPod software apps), for a higher fee in many cases!
3. Bulky. This is not a pocket device. And I have heard of the HD crashes (They use Seagate!! Baaaaaad). There is therefore.......no skin for this. You drop it, say bye bye to the $549 + tax + shipping.

Now this would be the dream player
1. Wifi capable
2. Landscape and Portrait Qwerty keyboard (touchscreen or otherwise) without losing form factor
3. Plays every damn format of media out there.
4. SMS/Text/Email/Internet.....all unlimited without paying a 100 bucks for it each month.
5. Multi-touch/Zoom In/Zoom out capabilities.
6. Netflix/Pandora capable.

I havent gotten into the whole 300 dollar phone craze. They are too high-risk --- can break easily, get jacked, or lost. This chick that I was messing with told me she is on her fifth I-Phone because it keeps slipping out and getting lost. I'm still old school --- going to the house to use the 'innanet'. I'm good for now.

I'm trying to cop a major flat screen on craigslist. Thats my mission this holiday season.

G1 has a bad battery and is extremely buggy.Nothing is perfect and it's like that for a reason,to make sales and constantly find something to improve upon. Soon we'll see video calling and some other weird random things.
It's funny how this whole world is based on one dummy controlling another, and the leader dummy was chosen by a whole bunch of dummies.

I have a Motorola Q with an 8GB sSIM card. A little pricey but worth it, IMO.

When it comes to broadband penetration and the technology curve, the U.S woefully lags. Our "free-market enterprise" approach in this regard has us getting our brains beat out by countries like Singapore.

first of all, it doesn't maintain the iPhone form factor. It's a little too bulky to be a pocket phone. Secondly, the Instant Messaging I have heard is ridiculously bad. And 179 dollars for a 1 GB phone?? I am sorry.......this is not even IN the competition.

its not too bulky to be a pocket phone imo... The instant Messaging is the worst part, but the 1gb can be expanded so whats the big deal

what about the nokia n97?

n97 is supposed to be out in the first half of 2009 and supposed to cost about $700 US. But yes, the specifications on that bad boy are worth looking at.
again from the image results.......it seems that it is a little too thick like the G1. But yes, the 32 GB internal memory with the expandable memory slot upto 48 GB more from what I read. THAT IS SOMETHING.

And it'll be on AT&T, so I wont have to think of switching to the ****ty T-mobile network.

what is the limit on the expansion slot? I bet you it is something crappy like 4 or 8 GB lol. It is too bulky if they want to take away iPhone customers.

it is a "standard" looking phone yes. So when are iPhone and Blackberry going to catch up in the features listed?

Granted the N97 isn't actually out yet, but it is MARGINALLY thicker than the iphone, and has a very sleek look to it:

1. Better screen resolution
2. Turn-by-turn GPS with optional voice guidance
3. Copy & paste
4. 5MP camera with flash & AF
5. QWERTY keyboard
6. 32GB built-in memory + microSDHC slot (up to 48GB)
7. Flash Lite 3.0 + flash video in browser
8. VGA video recording @ 30 fps
9. MMS

It looks pretty awesome.
