I think he can do well here in this system and he doesnt get the solid PT there. It would be hard to find a similar prospect in the late second round. We need a SG and I think if given a chance he can play and play well. He's also good size at 6-6 230.

I like that idea... i was thinking the same thing at one point.

As an aside... Do you follow Utah Jazz basketball at all?

I'm wondering why AK 47 doesn't start at small forward anymore? Kyle Korver is the backup 2g/sf in the Sloan system behind Rodney Brewer? CJ Miles, he is finally coming into his own... but since when did he become a small forward? What happens to Carlos Boozer @ PF... Millsap is playing very well, might be a reason enough to let Boozer walk & sign elsewhere IMO.

Your Thoughts?

Good call Briggs. I was just scowering D League rosters and current SG' freeagents to see who we can sign/trade for to fill the void for Mobley. Almond was definitely on that list.

Question as I don't follow Utah, why isn't Almond playing? He could clearly shoot in college. I wouldn't mind seeing him or Bellinelli here as either might flourish in this system.

I think it could be a case that the system doesnt fit the player. I think he had two 50 point games in the D league. He's the kind of player you can try to be opportunistic by acquiring with minimal value.

I've been talking about this kid as an option since last year - and this is when we had Crawford, well before D'Antoni arrived on the scene. This kid ripped up the D-League last year for multiple 50-pt. games. He's a scoring machine and I love the plus size, the strength (check out this kid's build) and the rebounding ability. I actually liked him in the '07 draft - thank God Chandler's worked out so far but this kid is the guy I wanted at #23 in '07. He just hasn't gotten the steady PT from Sloan to show anything in the NBA yet. Instead of just throwing Balkman away for nothing with Denver, I would've liked to see the Knicks go after Almond with Balkman - said so at the time. Oh well... Trying to acquire this kid with our 2nd rounder is a good idea. We need help at SG.

-------------

Another option I think makes a lot of sense is sending a re-signed David Lee to Sacramento for Francisco Garcia and Shelden Williams. Garcia reminds me a lot of Brandon Roy. He might not be as strong and wide as Roy but he's as tall (6'7"), he's smooth and crafty with the ball, he can shoot, drive and set up others, can play the 1,2 & the 3 all effectively, and he's long and a decent defender. Just returned from the IR Friday with the calf injury - 13 mins. 1-4, 2 blocks. The Kings just resigned this guy to a sensible deal (starting next year: 4 years 23.2 mil., with a team option in 2013/14 for an addition 6.1 million). That's reasonable money for a guy with his ability and potential. The Kings obviously like him but they have enough depth on the wing with Martin, Salmons and Greene to absorb losing him if they ever got a piece they liked - enter Lee who would make a nice frontcourt backup to Thompson and Hawes - The Kings are on the verge of losing a ton of frontcourt depth at the end of next year with guys like Brad Miller, Abdur-Rahim, Kenny Thomas and Mikki Moore all scheduled to come off the books). Shelden Williams isn't as skilled as Lee, but for what we would need him to do - intimidate around the rim and rebound the ball - I think he could do the job. And who knows - Williams is still young - much like Morris Almond, he hasn't gotten any PT in the league yet to really show what he can do. Maybe there's more to this guy. Is it a stretch to say he develops into the next Dale Davis or Antonio Davis, mybe even a Charles Oakley??? Guy was very effective at Duke...

Here are some options:

D-League perimeter players
Joe Crawford 6'5 210.....starred at Kentucky. Streaky shooter.
James White 6'7 200....extraterrestrial athlete who can excell as a finisher. Sturggles with the Jumper however.

Derrick Byars 6'7....NBA body but very inconsistent.

Marcus Williams 6'7 200...starred at Arizona. Has the skills to play in this league. But does he have the ticker and does he have what you need between the ears to compete? Out of anyone, I would give him the longest look. He can pass, run a little back up point, and is a playmaker.

Cedric Bozeman.....6'6 207 starred at UCLA. Has played against big time comp. Desrves a look.

Talent sitting on an NBA bench near you

Morris Almond (already mentioned in this thread)

Alando Tucker 6'5 205....He doesn't fit into the Phoe plans. While not a great shooter (though he can hit the shot as long as his feet is set and his open) he is an aggresive player who can get to the hole, take a hit and score. At Wisconsin, this guy was in the running for player of the year in CBB. He improved every single year while at Wisconsin and he made a boat load of big time shots. He's clutch and I would definitely give him a long look and try to aquire him.

Marco Belineli Good shooter and is a seemingly good fit for this style of play. However, he seems to be taylor made for GS style yet he cant get off the bench. Maybe Nellie knows somehting about him that we dont.

How about Demetris Nichols? He is currently a FA. His outside shooting would be something we can add to this system.

They may want to keep him for insurance but they have players well ahead of him. He just hasn't fit in well there. This is what I mean by being opportunistic. They did NOT pick up his option so he will be lost for nothing. This is kind of a trade we did with Denver for Balkman--in this case we need a 2 guard and he has great opportunity here. We have to create roster space. Im not sold on Patrick Ewing Junior--we dont need him--we have 7 SF's. We need a guy with size who can play the 2 guard. Guys develop differently on different teams and I'll go back to John Starks Mason etc... every team has theirs. This guy can be a good player and cheap

I'm pretty sure he's been playing a little more recently. Sloan likes his work ethic. I don't think they will just give him away.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Briggs, if Utah was willing to do this trade I'd do it a second. Almond would fit great here.

Almond appears to have amazingly slow feet- I'm not sure he's an NBA player. He has a really nice stroke though.

The sharpshooter that seemed to go by the wayside that was awesome last night was CJ Watson. That kid looks like he can really shoot the ball.

Why offer a 2nd round draft pick when you have Lindsey Hunter, Nichols, Fred Jones, Smush Parker, Salim Stoudamire, Jason Williams, Kirk Snyder, Ronald Dupree out there for the taking.

Another reason not to have made overtures to a certain one the past couple of weeks.

there has to be some guys in the NBDL who can shoot the lights out that we can bring in on a 10 day contract that are better than Roberson... we need to free up that roster spot somehow.

You offer a second round pick because you feel the player can fit in well here. You are talking about players who have gone through the crap heap. They did not opt in on Almond--a second round pick is fair compensation. It's fair to the player to give him an opportunity and the Knicks need a 2G with size.
