More NBA Videos After Stephon Marbury refused to play for the second time in a week, New York Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni is urging the team’s management to suspend the guard and send him home, sources told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday night.

One league source familiar with the Knicks’ plans late Wednesday night said that the organization was resolved to finally part with Marbury over the weekend.

Marbury refused to dress for the Knicks’ 110-96 loss to the Detroit Pistons in Auburn Hills on Wednesday, two league sources with knowledge of the situation said. The Knicks were down to two healthy guards, Chris Duhon and Anthony Roberson. With Nate Robinson out with a groin injury and Cuttino Mobley undergoing tests on his heart, the Knicks needed Marbury to play against the Pistons. Sources say he was approached prior to the game, but refused.

The Knicks are within their rights to suspend Marbury and separate him from the team. Marbury dressed for Friday’s game in Milwaukee so the Knicks could have the minimum complement of eight active players, but he did not want to play. Marbury made it clear that if he wasn’t in the team’s plans beyond this transition period following two major trades, he doesn’t want to be on the court.

Knicks owner Jim Dolan has refused to pay Marbury the full buyout on the $21.9 million owed him this season, and negotiations between management and Marbury have gone nowhere. Without an agent, Marbury has been using the NBA Players Association to help represent him.

The whole thing has been handled poorly on both sides. It was like MDA came in this year determined to punish Marbury and now that he needs him, he expected Marbury to act like anything other than Marbury. Marbury's wrong, MDA's wrong, and Walsh needs to step in an resolve this situation.

Last time I checked this is a job for Marbury. You getting paid 21 million dollars a year, your boss tells you to work you work. I don't understand this concept that Marbury needs to be treated right.

Wow really? Mike D'Antoni is in the wrong here? Really UK posters?

SO Steph who disgusted Larry Brown, disgusted Kevin Garnett, disgusted KVH. Tim THomas, Isiah Thomas, Q Rich, M D'Antoni before.

I'm not going to go on. He's a disgusting person. He's a horrible teammate. He's a cancer to an organization. And does everything in his power to undermine coaches.

And Mike D'Antoni is HANDLING THIS WRONG!??!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

STEPHON IS LUCKY SOMEONE DOESN'T TAKE HIS PUNK ASS OUTSIDE AND BEAT HIM LIKE A RED HEADED STEP CHILD!!!!!

But the Knicks DO need him. I didnt watch the game last night, but I just read that the Knicks only dressed Duhon and ROberson (and I dont consider roberson a PG).

I agree 100 with you. A decision should have been, and made clear to all parties, before the season started.

As far as Walsh stepping in, I think his hands are tied. I believe Walsh would like Marbury to play, but he has to support his coach on this one. MDA will obviously be here for, at least, the next three years where Marbury will be gone this year.

Listen, Marbury is clearly wrong here. He is under contract and no matter what, if he is asked to play and he is healthy, then he needs to go play. I don't dispute or question that. My only point is that MDA has handled the whole situation about as bad as you can and I am firmly convinced that he never really wanted Marbury to play based on the way he handled it. If I had actually wanted Marbury to play, I would have known that asking him a few minutes before tip off of a game to get his spur of the moment reaction was not going to work. I would have met him on an off-day in an office, explained the situation, explained the opportunity, and given him a day to ponder it. The whole thing is starting to look like a circus. Walsh needs to step in an either send Marbury home or cut him.

People are acting as though asking Steph to play was a shocker. It wasn't.

Walsh and D' have said all along that the franchise was opposed to getting nothing for their 22m. Marbury would not be in the regular rotation but he would be retained in case trades or injuries left the Knicks shorthanded, and in such instances D could even see starting him.

But Steph ain't gonna let no damn coach or GM decide when he's going to play. Don't they understand he runs this team?

A guy who is making 22mm in salary should do whatever he is told. If he is told to sit he should sit if he is told to play he should play and give 110%--end of story--there should be no story. If this player refuses to abide by a management decision--he should be suspended and not paid--words and hard-feelings don't matter. He is an employee making a huge sum of money--he needs to honor that or stop being paid.

He was cute with DNPing him until he really needed him. Anyway I thought the team was going in a different direction. Everything is going according to plan so what's the problem?

This is Dolans doing, if Marbury is not in the plans then get rid of him, instead of having him taking up a roster spot. Walsh said in the off season that Marbury would have a clean slate to start the season, my question to MDA is WHY PLAY HIM IN THE PRESEASON?? AS much as I hate the bastard what MDA is doing is not cool, why even ask him to play in the first place.

If that's the case then why did management feel a need to sit Marbury down and tell him that he's no longer in their plans and will not be playing anymore?

Marbury is an idiot but management, specifically D'Antoni, have handled this situation horribly. This situation will pass as soon as they buy out Marbury but D'Antoni better start figuring out this market and the NY media or else he may not last. This isn't Phoenix where the media and the public will eat up anything you choose to give them.

Speaking of Thomas's who didn't like Marbury, don't forget Kurt Thomas. He reportedly confronted Steph and told him that he was what was wrong with the Knicks.

Irony you got to love it. MDA smiling at the home opener as Marbury sits on the bench without a clue what was going on. Now MDA is pleading with him to play and Marbury is sitting on the bench.

What's so hard to understand about this? A players "place" is to be ready to be used as the coach sees fit - be it on the floor or the bench.
