The Knicks still have the option of waiving Mobley's physical, and it is doubtful that the deal will be rescinded because the Knicks' top priority was to acquire two players whose contracts expire after next season. If anything, Knicks president Donnie Walsh may be looking for additional compensation - perhaps a first-round pick - from the Clippers in order to sign off on the trade. Because Mobley and Thomas have not been cleared to play, Randolph and Mardy Collins were ineligible for the Clippers' home game Monday night against the Hornets, which L.A. lost, 99-87.

"All I know is, we sent two guys there who were playing for us with no (physical) issues," said Clippers GM and coach Mike Dunleavy. "So I don't think it's going to be anything that's going to hold the deal up. But they have until (today) to either say 'yea' or 'nay' on the trade. It has to be by (today). That's the deadline."

Dunleavy and Walsh have known each other for more than 40 years, but there are whispers that they no longer are close. Walsh was upset that Dunleavy asked for a first-round pick last July when the Knicks considered trading Randolph to the Clippers for no players in return. Walsh felt that Dunleavy was trying to fleece him and the Knicks' president was upset that the details of the trade ended up in news reports.

"I don't know the reasoning behind (the delay), so at this point I can't pass judgment on it," Dunleavy said. "I can't be upset about it because it was a part of the trade that they had until (today) to get it done. I don't know who's at fault as to why they don't have the results back. I have no clue. They just said, 'Your players haven't passed the physical yet because some of the results are not back.'"
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

so basically this boils down to: you wanted a first round pick over the summer? well, now i want a first round pick.

don't let this deal blow up over nothing. it's not like mobley was even going to start ahead of QRich or Nate here anyway.

So does "Fire Walsh" if he doesn't accept this trade by the deadline.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Clippers are not giving us a 1st round pick. I don't even know why the writer would say something so stupid in his article. We probably could have squeezed out a second round pick if we had demanded one prior to agreeing to the deal but at this point, we might as well take the deal and move on.

I would threaten and execute to pull this deal off the table if they dont give us a pick. We have two years to find a better deal and were better with Zach if were trying to win then without him. The Clippers will have some heat because Eric Gordon played VERY good yesterday as a starter 25 points anmd it will be a cluster F if they bring him back. They have to pay us.

If Walsh wanted to get a first rounder so badly, then I'm pretty certain he should have been able to get a first rounder in a different deal involving Crawford.

While I don't mind adding TT & Cutino to the roster, I would not mind keeping Zach. We still have to have something here when we pitch 2010 all stars, and Zach is a real good player. Maybe a bit overpaid, but he's been bringing for us every night.

For those who say he didn't try, yesterday's report said Walsh DID try to get a draft pick in the original negotiations. Hopefully they give him one now.

No need to play cat and mouse and get cute because this could blow up in our faces. Just cut your losses and sign off on the deal already. The objective was not to get a healthy Mobley, but to get his healthy contract that expires in 2010.

what would suck is if Zach comes back he wont be happy, and an unhappy Zach can be cancer.

This is exactly what I said on the thread last night- that Donnie's just delaying the deal cause he was upset from what happened over the summer...

here's the deal: when both teams confirm a trade, the only "out" is a failed physical, so the Knicks hold all the cards right now, the Clippers can either acquiece to Walsh's additional demand or not (if the latter, they run the risk of Walsh killing the deal....but the Clips cannot kill the deal as presently constructed)

I know I'm a naive sucker, but what if, like they said, the tests results simply hadn't come back yet. They may have ordered up less than routine tests on Mobley's heart.

Even if ZBo comes back I don't think he will be the cancer that people here make it out to be. The team was genuinely upset when the trade was announced. I think ZBo has a very good relationship with our current players. As I have stated before, we have 2 years to get rid of his contract. It will not be the end to the world if he comes back.

I think the deal will go through, and I don't think we'll get a draft pick out of it. If Walsh can somehow pull that off, he deserves kudos.
"it is doubtful that the deal will be rescinded because the Knicks' top priority was to acquire two players whose contracts expire after next season. Doesn't seem like Walsh has much leverage.

Zach has done everything he was asked to do and has played well for us. His reputation is improving, so if we have to take him back his trade value will probably increase.

If this is the case, I wouldn't be surprised if all Walsh was doing was making Randolph unavailable to play last night.
