A person with knowledge of the situation said the Knicks have "a standing offer" with the Miami Heat that would involve sending Stephon Marbury for forward Shawn Marion.

The Heat have thus far declined the offer.

That would be great

That would be pretty sweet, only because I think we'd make the playoffs this year if we added Marion and then we can just let him leave after the year is over. Pretty cool.

I wonder how does that offer looks. I love the fact that Donnie hasn't given up on trading Marbury and I believe he can get it done. I know its highly unlikely but could happen.

I'm glad to see Marburry's finally in play. Miami or Dallas, looks like something could get done.

What good does that do? We just get a worst draft pick and lose the player who got us to the playoffs anyway

Stackhouse and Howard for Marburry. Come on Cuban, step up to the plate. Walsh is on a roll and after last night somethings gonna get done sooner than later

Marbury situation may be next for Walsh
BY ALAN HAHN | alan.hahn@newsday.com
10:20 PM EST, November 21, 2008

The yawn from Stephon Marbury said it all. He sat on the Knicks' bench during Friday's game in Milwaukee after the Knicks made major changes for the future. But nothing changed for Marbury, who remains persona non grata, even on a night when the team was forced to dress him just to have the league-mandated eight healthy players available.

After Donnie Walsh pulled off a pair of trades that sent Jamal Crawford to the Warriors and Zach Randolph to the Clippers to clear $27 million in salary-cap space for the 2010-11 season, he indicated that his attention might now be directed at settling the Marbury issue.

Newsday has learned that in a meeting last week at the MSG Training Center, Marbury backed off his demand to collect "every penny" of his $21.9-million salary this season. With a representative from the NBA Players Association by his side, Marbury told Walsh he would accept $1 million less than his salary as a buyout. Walsh rejected the offer. Marbury did not speak with reporters before Friday's game.

It is believed the Knicks would prefer to come to a settlement closer to $15 million, though Walsh has said he has not considered an exact number. Any buyout would have to be approved by Garden chairman James Dolan. Newsday is owned by Cablevision, which also owns the Knicks.

The sides are expected to meet again soon, but Walsh would prefer to stay patient and hope to find a trade partner. His patience paid off with Randolph, who drew interest over the summer but not in what Walsh considered fair deals. But the difference between Randolph and Marbury is that Randolph played well and put up impressive numbers (20.5 points per game, 12.5 rebounds) this season. Marbury has yet to get off the bench and, in all likelihood, will not get off the bench as long as he remains a Knick. Crawford's departure was filled with the arrival of Cuttino Mobley.

A person with knowledge of the situation said the Knicks have "a standing offer" with the Heat that would involve sending Marbury for forward Shawn Marion, who is in the final year of his contract that pays him $17.1 million this season. Marion was an all-star for D'Antoni in Phoenix. But the Heat, who have a need at point guard, have declined.

Why, if Marion already punked out on D'Antoni last year, would they want to bring him in? But if it did work I would want to throw in Eddy Curry and we can get back Mark Blount and Marcus Banks. Banks didnt work out in Phoenix, and goes to 2011, but about 7 mill less in 2010-11. Just a thought.

How many small fowards can we possibly try to get?

Chandler
Harrington
Thomas
Fried Gallinari

and now...
Josh Howard
Shawn Marion

How about, oh I don't know, a big man?

He's averaging 11 and 9 this year. He clearly misses Nash.

Is it me or does Shawn Marion suck ?

Mikes system is to play 4 SFs and PG.
So no surprise.

If reports are true I believe its more about the expiring contract than anything else. Its been stated that Miami is shopping him so why not try it since they need a PG. Right now we aren't playing Marbury so what's there to lose.

Remember it's Marbury who they offered, so you can't ask for much value out of him given the situation. Right now a 2nd round pick for him would be great.

I personally would buyout Marbury and move on. Whats the point of adding Marion anyways aren't the Knicks rebuilding. Its time for Chandler to get as much run as possible to develop him. When Gallo is cleared to play he needs major run to get him basically ready for 2010. The rest of the players are just buying time with the Knicks until their next destination. Buy Marbury out atleast you know his contract is gone off your books without adding anyone. Create a roster spot and sign Ewing Jr.

The trade has been declined. Heat could do way better for Marion.

Forget Marbury focus on Curry & Jefferies.

Agreed. Why pick up another player, who we'd want to dump, at the expense of getting a worse draft pick, and developing Chandler and Gallo?

This is the way to go. Get Curry's value up same with JJSkinny and trade their arses for expirings. We can probably get a pick with Eddy and an expiring. Miami and Dallas are teams that should be the targets here.

Marion might actually accept a buy 0ut offer that makes sense, Miami gets a point. We stand that we don't NOT negotiate buyouts unless its less than full value. Its the norm.

Marbury is far from normal.

his point averages went down cuz Wade & Beaseley are dominating the scoring on that team & they don't have a facilitator like Nash for him to work off of... Marion is not a guy who creates his own shot, he works off other players spotting up off screens & open kickouts, & gets the garbage points in the paint off offensive putbacks & penetration by the G's... he would work very well w/a guy like Duhon.

that said, there's no reason why MIA would wanna give him to us for Dinglebury... that's just silly talk... we'd have to throw in D Lee for them to even be look at an offer like that.
