who cares what we end up giving Utah next year? it's not our pick to begin with... we can't worry about what moves we make cuz of what Utah will potentially end up getting w/that pick they already pretty much own... we need to focus on how to make best use out of the pick we do own this year.

Then sign Amare, Dirk, Yao, Redd- there's a lot of players out there. At least then you have options. Lets say you didn't make those trades. Then what?

if we can't sign Lebron & Bosh or Wade & Bosh, i'm sure none of us would be unhappy to take Joe Johnson & Amare Stoudamire as consolation prizes.

Well, the Knicks will be able to make the types of deals the Clippers made for Camby. Or the Knicks will be able to make the type of deals like Seatlle made for Kurt Thomas, where they took on the salary and got a first and flipped Thomas for another first. Or they could go after a RFA.

Well, there's also that thing called 'luck' that gets you the first also.

Homie, you're arrogant sometimes. I think there's plenty of threads you could have put this in, but I guess you need the spotlight or something. Whatever, ill let you breathe and do what it is you do...

You cannot stand pat and not make this move just because you're scared its going to fail, because we werent going anywhere as currently constructed and there was no end in sight. We could really hit big, but as others have said there are plenty of other free agent alternatives in 2010 so its unlikely we'll come up empty handed.

Point is, we have major options and flexibility at this point. Plus we rid ourselves of this losing culture that has set in.

That's really what it comes down to for me is that there will be options. But let's look at what was gained already... this losing culture is getting shown the door. The players understand that cap space is more valuable than what they brought to the table. Shape up or ship out!

This is a pretty radical move. Usually when a team does this they acquire young players and draft picks. Ok we have the ending contracts but what is attractive about joining this team? What is the core you can sell? Honestly if you dont get Lebron this is a tad nuts to do 11 games in. We just put all of the eggs in one basket and we will have to watch crp basketball for atleast two more years. It's a plan but Ive never seen it done quite like this.

he sold high, i guess worried that the demand and value could drop. could he have waited and maybe gotten a better package for Crawford? probably. but maybe we can rehabilitate Harrington's value and move him for young players and draft picks at some point. it's not like he's a worthless player - he's got value around the league and he's not really in the long term plans here, so he's a chip to move at some point.

One second we're talking about giving up Lee, Nate etc. so we can facilitate moving Zach and Craw, and now we get it done without doing that and crying about not getting picks? It's not going to be an empty core. The salary flexibility we have could potentially allows us to sign 2-3 FA's and have a group of players here than include Chandler, Gallo, another high draft pick and potentially Lee or Nate or perhaps both.

If there is one thing you can say about NY fans is that most of them are straight greedy and feel entitled sometimes. The whole summer most here were crapping in the draws and talking about we couldnt hope to ever get rid of these guys. Now people want number one's and Moses Malone and Wilt in their primes in return.

I wouldn't be too worried about handing out #1 picks any time soon. TT, Mobley and Harrington all shoot the 3, at a career 37%, 38% and 36% respectively. Q is at 39% this year, Nate at 42% and Duhon at 35%. So, now you have legitimate 3 point shooting, potentially at every position. That is, 1-5. And you're running with Mike D'Antoni. I wouldn't be too concerned. This is a playoff team easily, if D'antoni doesn't tank it early and often (which, of course, he should).
Sh-t in the popcorn to go with sh-t on the court. Its a theme show like Medieval times.

I agree we are severely deficient in quality youth, and anyone who thinks we're gonna pull a Boston in 2010 and head straight to the finals is delusional. But so too is the notion that Zach and Crawford constituted a high caliber core.

If we took a step backwards today it was a small one, but in doing so we increased our flexibility, and therefore chances, of acquiring better talent later. It's not like we gave up youth or draft picks.

I just don't see how people can lament the loss of Slach and Crawful, for a chance at something better. What's the point of "luring" talent if you don't have the payroll flexibility to sign them?

If Slach and Craw constituted our ceiling for the next few years would you'd be feeling better?

crap basketball? even if they are losing the team is still fun to watch. briggs, give me a break, we've all been waiting for a move to be made like this for literally almost a decade. thank god it was finally done. this team was going nowhere. in a real crappy east and with a great head coach they won't even be one of the worst teams in the league. last year we were what the 5th worst team, there's no way the record is worse than it was last year. cancers like marbury and curry aren't going to win championships. i thought you were all about big picture, briggs. i completely agree with des, there are still young pieces and probably a top 15 pick next year, and more moves to be made. curry is next on the chopping block. i love marbury's being hung to dry. these guys (marbury, curry, z-bo, etc) are all such losers.

The key is to continue to flip the vets. Even tonight looking at Villenueva--Skiles hates him--maybe they would want Cutino Mobley or Al Harrington for an ending contract and Villenueva?
