and we are supposed to be attracting players to New York?? We are going to be the Clippers of the east. Nobody is going to want to play on this team.

Bookmark this topic and wait until 2010, because after the Knicks are able to only sign the bottom feeders of that years free agent class we are going to be stuck in the draft upgrade cycle.

And no thats not a good thing because the kids we draft are going to want to go away from New York.

The trick is to keep the team competitive to attract talent.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for getting under the cap, but getting Al Harrington and losing Randolph for whomever right now is the wrong way to go.

This is a really shortsighted way of looking at things, subzero.

And just who the hell were we attracting with Randolph and Crawford? I didnt see anybody beating down our doors to get here.

The Knicks could conceivably get Lebron + Wade or Bosh or Amare...c'mon now, get with it.

You're right. Randolph and Crawford were key pieces to our championship team.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

If that doesn't tell ya what's to come, then you'll just have to wait and see.

I agree that the team needs to have pieces in place to make it palatable to join the Knicks. Remember when the Bulls gave all that money to Eddie Jones because no one wanted to play in Chicago?

But I do think there will be some pieces. If Lee and Nate agree to reasonable terms. If Chandler becomes a solid starter. If Gallo is damaged goods. If Walsh doesn't botch this year's pick.

I already said it about a month ago. 'We probably won't even recognize this team anymore, in two more years'. Lebron is not the only move we will be making. And remember, we are going to have cap room up the wazoo!

We have more options now then we have had in the last eight years. Think about that guys. And we still have two years to move a few others off this team. I'm happy as a clam and I just can't wait until that time comes. What's not to be happy about?
I'll never trust this' team again.

the main problem I had with the crawford trade was not getting a first rounder back in a deal.

Otherwise, I don't think this new roster is that bad.

There are so many ways to address this post that I'll just say a few things. First, how are you gonna attract anyone to NY if you have no cap space to sign them? We knew from the beginning that both players had to be traded in order to do that.

Secong of all, I think the Clippers are the Knicks of the last seasons. Look at that roster now. They may have balance with the trade, but they officially have a horrible cap situation and we'll see if the deal takes them to the playoffs. And even if they do, are they championship material?

I do understand that anyone could be worried that a guy like Lebron wouldn't want to play here because the roster may not be that attractive, but lets get to the bridge before we cross it. We still have some solid players that would make a nice supporting cast. We also have this year's draft pick. Danillo will hopefully get healthy and prove to be another valuable piece of the puzzle along with Chandler, Nate and maybe even Lee.

And a team with some solid players and the ability to sign two big free agents may be our first real shot at a championship in more than 30 years. Who knows what happens from now on, but its evident we are sending this message: we are going to do our best try to sign an impact player in 2010. A team with solid pieces, you add Lebron and Bosh and we'll be talking about great seasons soon.

This is indeed a horrible day. Walsh has just undone a good portion of Cap'n Zeke's work, and is on track to return us to the Layden Era. Frankly, I'm surprised. I thought the plan was for Walsh to build on Cap'n Zeke's legacy and take the credit. Now he has thrown out a good portion of the core of the team that Cap'n Zeke built. It is indeed a horrible day.

I only hope he has the good sense not to dump Curry and Marbury as well. Then we'll be in real trouble!

The Knicks won 23 games last year with the two guys they traded. They also had the highest salary in the league. How can you have any attachment for guys who never played for anything while they were in NY? The Knicks also got reasonable talent in return. They didn't get Brad Lohaus and JR Reid. They got guys who will work in D'Antoni's system. Fugazy and Harrington are the versatile bigs that D'Antoni loves. Mobley will step in at shooting guard and do a very good job. The Knicks were going to trade Zach along with a pick, possibly the 08 lottery pick just to dump his salary. There is nothing that you can fault about this trade. The guys that left were a part of the worst, most dysfunctional team in NY sports history. Maybe the franchise truly is moving on. The next move could be Marbury to New Orleans.

they can't all be as brilliant an acquisition as Cezary Trybanski.

This is just a weird ass way at looking at things. I like Crawford as a person, but he has been dead center in the worst era of Knick basketball in two decades.

And who really cares about Randolph. He shouldnt have been here in the first place.

Some fans never cease to amaze. It's no wonder arguments break out on these threads all the time. We were a 35 win team at best and guys are bitching about giving up a max deal and a 40% shooter who might I add was the biggest career loser in the entire league.

What is the objective here, winning. How the **** can you do that if you have pieces that prevent you from signing free agent talent. Last time I check we still have Lee, Nate, Harrington and Chandler. A better backup guard, PF, SF then Lebron has right now in Cleveland. Duhon has the best assist to TO ration in the entire nba and all I hear is negatives. Frankly if you are excited about betting the heat, thunder, bobcats, and wizards you are a ****ing idiot. We are trying to build for the future.

You got a 22 year old kid that maybe one of the 5 best players from last years draft that might I add is exactly on the same path that granger was on. Nate is a dynamic offensive player and has improved each year he has been in the league and is better than Gibson/West/Pavolivic. Lee will be sacrificed with Eddy Curry that is almost a certainty but if that happens that is another 10 million off the cap in addition what it would cost to resign him. So your team is the following.

Duhon/Nate

Chandler
Gallo/Draft pick
Jefferies/Draft Pick

You have room for two Amare/Bosh/Lebron/Wade/Dirk whomever. You think in this market with Mike as the coach and a couple of decent pieces lined up a mid level you can't convince two guys to come here, I think you're wrong. Amare has what with the suns in two years, nothing why is he going to say, Dirk has josh howard and eric dampier, bosh has calderon and the italian, wade has reason to stick around but there are other low level all stars out there?

Last time I checked when the knicks had money to spend they added Larry Johnson, Allan Houston, and chris childs and could have had Reggie Miller if they didn't give money to childs, so be patient and shut up. The team isn't really that much worse with three players that fit in the system.

as much as i've disagreed w/u over the years i think u got it dead on w/that post (except for Jamal, shame on u)... this is probably the best day in recent memory for the NY Knicks franchise for all the reasons u just outlined.
