A Recipe For Three Bold Moves

1. I'm thinking a clone of Tayshaun Prince would be perfect. As much as Quentin Richardson has tried to hold it down, the position in this system demands more than a barely average 6'6 can offer. Lebron ain't coming anytime soon. Patrick Ewing Jr is raw but he will not have any problems with effort.

I miss Trevor Ariza

2. Now, visualize Jeffries getting Malik Rose's minutes.

3. Step three, an ambulatory 6'11 type (think healthy Marcus Camby or vintage Sheed) is plugged in for Jerome James the instant his medical exemption kicks in.

Let simmer for 5 minutes

Lets try to keep expectations low at this early stage of the season. No problem dreaming playoffs but lets remember they are still a work in progress and there is a plan. And actually, the plan is 2010 because there are many great options out there other than Lebron. One of them might pick the Knicks so we have to keep pursuing good trades and at the same time try to keep the level of talent we have in the process.

And lets keep in mind we are trying to build a contender for the long run. This team has been a great story so far, but we can't forget we have major holes. I still want the Knicks to do everything possible to build a championship contender and that could happen in 2 years with the right moves.

Lets not cross the bridge if we still haven't reached it. I still believe a guy like Lebron, Bosh, Wade or whoever is available in 2010 can help us big time. We definitely need a superstar we can rely on when games are close or defenses take us out of our running game. I think the best thing to do is stick to the plan. Maybe we will not trade the guys we expected to at first, but the goal remains.

Imagine just for a second this team has Lebron in Q-Rich's place? Or maybe Bosh in the post? Lets try it, this is still New York and we finally have a plan and professional people running it.

I was just about to post somethign similiar....

I was at the garden tonight and I just happened to be in a section of some real basketball junkies.....one of the dudes said just about the same thing.....he said to his buddies, "You know what? The Knicks only need like 2 more small uprades and they are ready for prime time..." The surrounding seats lit up with chatter cuz it was true!!!

I can't believe it.....we got a Black President and the 2008 Knicks are sitting at the tip of legitamacy!!!

Basically.....Jared Jefferies can handle, finish inside, pass, run and dunk.......delete Malik Rose from the equation and you have just thrown this baby into the next gear. Can anybody see D'antoni starting Zach, Wilson, Jared, Duhon and Craw together? I can....

No the Lateral trade we've been hinting at.....Knicks dont need a work beater type stud right now.....they need reinforcements, some more bullets.....even if its temporary. They have to give these guys some help but with heavy thought placed on remamining in the hunt to catch a real all-star in 2010.

Go Knicks man!!!! but seriously....leave the draft out of it....right now these Knicks are on the cusp of really making themselves a legit player in the eastern conference. Like I eluded to....they can wiggle their way to either squeezing into an 8th seed or just fall short....or they can make a small lateral trade and truly solidify what we are seeing....and thats a 6-3 basketball team.

Go mutha****ing Knicks.

In the meantime....can you imagine a guy like Marion, Gerald, or Harrington replacing Q?

Knicks absolutley can make 2 lateral moves that allow them to still have mucho salary coming off the cap for 2010!

I think as of now? It would be a shame not to really give these guys a shot at the playoffs. the Knicks are 6-3 right now....in 20 games I can't expect these guys to be 12-8 but the way they are playing? why not? If they can get Jared healthy and add a servicable big man and another established scorer? wow man....Knicks would be back in business. 2010 would be a lock to attract a player cuz they know the Knicks are abot their business now.

Go Knicks!!!

Earl are you advocating trading Randolph for Rasheed Wallace again?

I sure hope not. not making that trade was one of Walsh's best moves.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Relax man...seriously. We've already had the 2010 discussion already.

In my opinion, we are simply mediocre if we don't get under the cap and try to sign ANY of the MANY guys who will be available that summer. We talk about LeBron but there's Wade, Amare, Bosh, Tyson Chandler(shot blocker with Randolph, eh?), Dirk, TJ Ford, Yao, Ginobili, Joe Johnson, Raja Bell, Rip, Redd and the list goes on and on. Not all these guys are superstars but then of course you can split up the money and get 2 good guys instead of 1 great one.

Right now the team is playing well but nowhere near elite level. Nowhere near. I can imagine if the Knicks won 40 games, people would be talking about winning the title.

Do not lose sight of the biggest picture and IMO the real picture of winning an NBA title. We don't need "1 or 2 more things." We need a lot of things. Consistency, defense, hustle, outside shooting and a superstar who can take over a game when we need him to. No not Crawford. A real superstar.

I still say Gerald Wallace. People say he can't shoot, but he's shooting a solid 36% on threes.

good post, and that is why I said, we just need some smart short term moves. I know people are down on gallanari, but we can't bring in a SF that will take away his time and stunt his growth. Marion would be a great short term fix, if we could dump curry's salary, and as you said, in 2010 there are a host of good players. If not lebron, I have my sights set on bosh. Guys like rip and ginobili are fine, but in 2010 those guys will be well into their primes. I am not sure I want to give them long term deals.

The Replacement Killers

Knicksfan - low expectations get you low results. I agree about the Knicks being a work in progress but time waits for no one... and things can change in a heartbeat. This is not a plea for a "quick fix" type of move but rather a recognition that an upgrade at just one position makes this 6-3 edition more smoothly functional - and (drum roll) more entertaining.

We are in agreement that Walsh must keep pursuing upgrades and not sidegrades, while keeping the level of talent the NYK has. That is why you keep that double-double (cue the theme music) Transformer (all star forward in disguise)- Zach Randolph

EnySpree is correct - the Knicks need replacements.

Work with me here. The major holes are at the three and at center. Once Marbury's roster spot opens up and James becomes a medical redshirt Walsh has two slots to fill with young talent (Ewing?) or a trade deadline deal.

Lets cross the bridge by giving Malik Rose's and Quentin Richardson's minutes to a more productive player - this season.

Just add boiling water (at the three spot) and stir.

What Is The Law?

"I know people are down on gallanari, but we can't bring in a SF that will take away his time and stunt his growth"

tkf - Gallinari's growth is already stunted. If D'Antoni has proven anything it is a strict adherance to the law that minutes are earned and not promised. I have no problem whatsoever with Walsh bringing in another skill forward to raise the competition bar.

I'm more than willing to have patience with Danilo's back issues because I dig his skill-set... and he's only a kid but..

...if The Italian Scallion wants to squeeze into the rotation he better get up, strap up, toughen up and man up before he becomes an asterisk in a Knicks trivia question five years from now.

I miss Trevor Ariza, Maceo Baston, Ime Udoka, Doug Christie and Matt Barnes

I don't understand the craze over Ariza. He's a 7th year player now with a career average of 6ppg and 3 rpg.

I like to call someone with those numbers, a scrub.

I said in the other thread that some quick lateral moves to get a shooter/defensive minded big might help solidify playoffs now- i.e. Curry for Varajao and Pavlovic. No major effect on long term salary plans.

Oh, another scrub by the way (Pavlovic). 6 years in the NBA, along with 6ppg and 1.9 rpg on 41% shooting.

Yay.
