So far removing Steph, Eddy, and Jerom (LOL) from the picture and absence of Jeffries helps as a lot.
We have 10 players with very well defined roles in the system (including 3 2-5 minutes players still used with certain purpose).
This team became a classic example of Euro-type team; when the players are just extension of the Coach brain and as such are all replaceable.
Extensive usage of jump shooting, 3th, team defense, and fast break are all trademarks of Euros.
Interesting experiment Mike is running in NY...

I've always thought that Mike D ran a Euro type of offense.

No, the new Knicks are a Ben Jobe type of team.

You could look it up.

I see what you are getting to:
Jobe has been a constructor, building from scratch. He's also been a reconstructor, putting programs backtogether, and he's been a bondsman, holding all facets of his programstogether.
This may be true but I am talking more about team identity that coaching style...

arkrud - there is no such thing as a Euro type team. What Euro team are you comparing the Knicks to?

Basketball was invented in the United States of America. We don't need no steekin' "Euro" bootleg model to serve as a role model for a game we freakin' own the copyright on.

I would submit this unselfish New Edition Knicks squad is merely hinting towards a potential reniassance of the Red Holzman era Knicks, who passed the pill like it was a rabid porcupine.

I see... LOL So this is about American pride.
There is nothing American. Everything in this country is a mix of stuff brought to US by emigrants of all kind. And it all good.
But lately however "Americans" start looking at the world from above.
Is it the time get back to collecting best stuff instead of promoting domestic crap?

arkrud - Did you really say domestic crap?

Jazz is uniquely American and I would NOT consider it crap.

Euro-schmuro

Just beat OKC tomorrow (fingers crossed) night and the New Edition Knicks, led by The Mayor, move to 6-3.

That doesn't suck that bad.

I don't want to be anything like a European team. It's obvious to all that Europeans don't work as hard as americans, and I want a team that is hard working.
I just hope that people will like me

Jazz has roots in African music and African-Americans (unfortunately not immigrants by will) brought this music to America and make it a real Art.
I don't see the bbal game as it evolve now as good as it can be if all World will contribute.
I see a lot of good stuff in Euro game and if NBA will ignore it we will start losing again.
Star power is not enough. You need good coaching and team concept.

Say What?

"Jazz has roots in African music and African-Americans (unfortunately not immigrants by will) brought this music to America and make it a real Art."

arkrud - Everyone knows that Jazz was heavily shaped by an African aesthetic. Unlike you cliam, Jazz was not brought to America. It was the by-product of that African aesthetic shotgun-married with European (sometimes Caribbean) sensibilities, cultural trauma, and exposure to alternative instruments. That inconvenient dialogue is what forged the new art form we call Jazz.

If you are suggesting that basketball is made better by embracing stylistic influences from other cultures I can get with that.

I am certain Tim Duncan (Virgin Islands), DeSagana Diop (Senegal), Manu Ginobili (Argentina) Dikembe Mutombo (Nigeria), Yao Ming (China), Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, (Cameroon), Al Horford (Dominican Republic), Patrick Ewing (Jamaica) and Leandro Barbosa (Brazil) appreciate your effort to include the stylistic influence of all "non-Euro" nations that play hoops.

I would also offer that the brothers at The Rucker (and urban playgrounds everywhere) appreciate your inclusion of their spontaneous artistry and wicked improvisation.

"Extensive usage of jump shooting, 3th, team defense, and fast break are all trademarks of Euros."

I call BS. Jump shooting was sweetened with the bankability of Sam Jones, Caldwell Jones, Bobby Jones and Wali Jones, team defense is played everywhere and the fast break was a hallmark of historically Black Colleges and Universities in the fifties - while the over-heralded ACC was still walking the ball upcourt.

For you to place "Euro" basketball on a pedestal is just plain narrow-minded, biased and/or naive

I totally agree with this. It baffles me when teams raise banners that say "World Champions"

So should we object when the Phillies, Red Soxs or Yankees proclaimed themselves as World Champions. The Giants spent 8 months celebrating as world champions in a sport that only the United States find interesting (NFL Europe my ass). This is a silly argument. Nobody gives a crap about the EL.

You are totally right. I still think it's stupid though.

Not arguing, but just want to rep the 504, New Orleans! Man, I loved my year there. Anyway, the city and it's French influence allowed slaves to express themselves through music. There's no such thing as good slavery, so I don't want to make it sound like that at all... anyway, that one condition allowed Jazz to flourish.
