He is officially off my hatred list when it comes to this team....... not just from his play but from his attitude during interviews lately.. anyone else with me?? I think hes really down for the cause
I'm with ya. I never loved him but you can't deny the guy's a baller, straight up baller. His contract is what makes him so undesireable, not his play and unfortunately that's what defines a well-paid player in the today's NBA - his contract, regardless if he's productive or not. Back when there was all the Curry/Zach-who to keep & who's better discussion, I said every time w/o hesitation that Zach was the superior player. And just in case there were any doubts about that, Curry has proven his one-time supporters wrong. Call me nuts, but I still say the salary cap needs to be revised somewhat. Look at our off-season for a sec. We have a brand new GM who's automatically under the gun to jettison a still relatively young productive 20/10 PF at all costs in order to hopefully give ourselves a chance to get under the cap to possibly sign a big-time free agent in a couple of years. But no guarantees mind you. A couple of teams came calling and offered us, knowing what we're up against, completely bogus deals for Zach, both of which Walsh turned down. You see where I'm going? This damn salary cap doesn't even encourage teams to trade fairly with one another. Instead it forces teams to come up with anyway possible to unload useful players just for the sake of getting their money off the books. That's not why deals should be consummated IMHO. I know we created our own mess here, we knew the rules and we made our own bed and we have to lay in it now - I get all of that - but I still feel the system needs to be revised. I'm not calling for no salary cap (I realize it's overall importance esp. when you consider smaller market teams -- though make no mistake, I was always a firm believer that if you're an owner of a sports franchise and either can't or won't pony up the money to make it successful then you're in the wrong line of work) or some big salary cap overhaul, just some modifications. Sour grapes I know, but I'm just so sick of losing and not being able to do anything about it because of a stupid set of rules. It shouldn't take 5+ years to move past some "mistake" in order to make your franchise competitive again. And that's just it, a player like Zach Randolph, provided he's playing well and not causing any problems off the court (which has been the case for us btw) shouldn't be thought of as a mistake - that's a big problem in the NBA if you ask me. We shouldn't have to dump Zach, Curry and Crawford and whoever else for nothing then possibly let guys like Lee & Robinson walk in order to sign a LeBron James. How does than encourage a franchise to build a team? How does that entice a FA to even come here (OK 'Bron, we dumped every relevant player on the roster in order clear room to bring you here. You ready to come now?). I truly believe the system's got some holes in it...
