But hasn't Zach been a soldier since he's been a Knick? Nothing has changed. Dude has been playing hard and saying the right things since he's been here. We already debated this to no end to which I was victorious in my efforts.

As someone who had him at the top of the list of players that needed to be traded I gotta say he has impressed me. I'm still not a Zach fan but he's behaved and bought into the game plan.

I hope Zach plays well, that way we get some fair value for him when we trade him.

At this point i'm not pulling for him to be traded and have shifted to Curry. Unless he backslides, I'm fine with him being here.

If Zach has a good season and changes his reputation, the biggest mistake we could make is not selling high. It's a natural reaction to want to hold onto whatever looks good and sell whatever looks bad, but you need to do the exact opposite. It's not even an issue of whether you like Zach or not. It's an issue of whether you'd rather have Zach or have one of Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Dirk, or Yao plus whatever additional stars emerge between now and 2010.

He still takes way too many outside shots. He's gotta cool it with that. He can be a pretty good player sometimes.

Definitely agree with that. Zach is a much better shooter when he takes those outside shots within the flow of the offense, but too many times tonight, those shots went up out of the flow.

I'm with ya. I never loved him but you can't deny the guy's a baller, straight up baller. His contract is what makes him so undesireable, not his play and unfortunately that's what defines a well-paid player in the today's NBA - his contract, regardless if he's productive or not. Back when there was all the Curry/Zach-who to keep & who's better discussion, I said every time w/o hesitation that Zach was the superior player. And just in case there were any doubts about that, Curry has proven his one-time supporters wrong. Call me nuts, but I still say the salary cap needs to be revised somewhat. Look at our off-season for a sec. We have a brand new GM who's automatically under the gun to jettison a still relatively young productive 20/10 PF at all costs in order to hopefully give ourselves a chance to get under the cap to possibly sign a big-time free agent in a couple of years. But no guarantees mind you. A couple of teams came calling and offered us, knowing what we're up against, completely bogus deals for Zach, both of which Walsh turned down. You see where I'm going? This damn salary cap doesn't even encourage teams to trade fairly with one another. Instead it forces teams to come up with anyway possible to unload useful players just for the sake of getting their money off the books. That's not why deals should be consummated IMHO. I know we created our own mess here, we knew the rules and we made our own bed and we have to lay in it now - I get all of that - but I still feel the system needs to be revised. I'm not calling for no salary cap (I realize it's overall importance esp. when you consider smaller market teams -- though make no mistake, I was always a firm believer that if you're an owner of a sports franchise and either can't or won't pony up the money to make it successful then you're in the wrong line of work) or some big salary cap overhaul, just some modifications. Sour grapes I know, but I'm just so sick of losing and not being able to do anything about it because of a stupid set of rules. It shouldn't take 5+ years to move past some "mistake" in order to make your franchise competitive again. And that's just it, a player like Zach Randolph, provided he's playing well and not causing any problems off the court (which has been the case for us btw) shouldn't be thought of as a mistake - that's a big problem in the NBA if you ask me. We shouldn't have to dump Zach, Curry and Crawford and whoever else for nothing then possibly let guys like Lee & Robinson walk in order to sign a LeBron James. How does than encourage a franchise to build a team? How does that entice a FA to even come here (OK 'Bron, we dumped every relevant player on the roster in order clear room to bring you here. You ready to come now?). I truly believe the system's got some holes in it...

That's because this franchise, as currently constructed still, is going nowhere fast and has been for years. Rebuilding is the only way to go and if you have a shot at a guy like LeBron James and you have a franchise in NY you go for the home run. If you don't get LeBron, there will be free agents available that summer. Hell, even next. But there is no franchise player on this team and we are not acquiring one through trade or draft (unless we suck so bad again that we win the lottery). This is the only way to do it and IMO the right way to do it since every other way has failed miserably. It's time to rebuild and I hope and pray that we will do what Walsh says.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

i dunno but the thought of even having the slightest bit of a chance to land guys like Lebron, Wade, Dirk or Yao appeals to me a lot more than hoping trades for guys like Antawn Jamison & Michael Redd will lead us to a championship someday.

right on... especially when you see him around the basket and the array of sick moves he has. He's also too good a rebounder to be playing on the perimeter
