Wow... This is news to me... Let's see if it really pans out.. I gotta check the contracts and see if it helps our cap situation. I don't know how long Calvin Booth and Vitaly Potapenko's deals are. Let's look it up and see...

Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

Both of those guys have horrible long deals and are garbage time players. This would be a terrible trade.

Anyone know how long their deals are? Past Houston's?

Booth's deal lasts till 06/07 from 3.4 to 6.8 mil.
Potapenko's deal lasts till 04/05 from 5.7 to 6.1 mil.

Rain, aren't you kinda hard on this deal? Booth's contract is 1 year longer than Spoon's, gets similar money, but is a center that we need. He brings size @ the 5 in exchange for Spoon, who we don't need now that we have Sweetney. Booth is also younger, so there's fresher legs with more ups. Potapenko is a center whose contract is up after next season. Charlie Ward can be bought out with 2 mil but at least we get something back at a position we need to improve in.

This deal isn't really that bad. I can dig it...

If I could, I'd buy out Ward and try to put Eisley in that deal. We can start Williams and sign a PG to come off the bench.

I like this deal. Only because we are not giving much in return. Basically, we are swapping role players at position of need.

Or better yet....keep Ward for the one year and then let his contract expire...send Eisley in the trade and next year get Milos to come over to fill the point guard spot with Williams.

....but i don't think the sonics would want to take on 2 long contracts.

Does this trade make sense for the Sonics?

Here's my take on Ward. His contract is about $6mil... so we have a couple of options with him. Hold on to him and buy out his contract. This will cost us $2million, but we'll save $12mil combined by losing his contract and the $6 mil from the luxury tax. The Sonics might actually be interested in the money savings.

However, the only thing this will accomplish is saving the Knicks organization money. It will arguably make us less competitive. Of course, it opens up playing time in our backcourt for FW... We could also potentially re-sign Ward for less.

Why would the Sonics want 'Spoon? Well, he's a better proven rebounder than anyone on the Sonics roster. His contract is also shorter than Booth's. It would also lighten their logjam at center.

About the players:
Booth was highly sought after 2 years ago... but an ankle injury/surgery slowed him down. Who knows if he ever fully recovered. He was considered a "high basketball IQ" guy, w/ average athleticism. Dallas wanted him bigtime... so did the Knicks. If he's healthy, he's a very solid center... and he's tall.

Potapenko is a big mule-- like a bigger version of Tractor Traylor. I guess he's a useful banger--- plus he could be traded later this year to a contender if we can't find time for him.

it really doesnt matter how bad potapenko and booth's salaries are as long as they expire before the at the same time houston's does. Until houston is off the cap nyk are in cap hell anyway. So on our end of the deal money has no bearing on the trade. Would you rather switch jerome james for either of these players? A higher potential to be a better player, and a higher potential to become 350 pounds.

O yeah i'll take Jerome James over them two,but it looks like the Sonics are willing to stick with him.I dont blame them.He reminds me of Dampier.Which i hope the Knicks would involve one of these centers or both for Dampier or maybe get Thomas involved as well and i'll throw in our 2nd. round pick.Dampier would be a force in the east.Knicks would be easily in the playoffs imo.

Give me a break, JEROME JAMES!! that dude is twice the garbage rain had suggested with Booth and Vitaly. JAmes is not a team player, he foul-proned and has a serious eating probelm. Must seriously improve his conditioning and mentally he's very weak on the defensive end. He's nowhere near Eric Dampier. At least Eric is tough and holds his ground by logging huge minutes and staying on the court.

He is nowhere near Dampier for now,its true but i'll take the chance on him cuz i think he will compare with Dampier in a year or two from now.Dont sleep on him.I prefer James than those two, then ship them.
I dont care how but the Knicks gotta get 1!
1.Dampier 2.Lafrentz 3.Cato 4.James 5.Ostertag

Knicksbb I agree, James has a nickname(BIG SNACKS) as soon as he received his contract he went back into hibernation!
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Can we add Ratliff in that list? Move him on the top of that list.

the deal stinks...instead of having a bunch of crappy PFs we get a bunch of crappy centers. I would do Spoon for Potempeko, but Booth's deal stinks and I want no part of it.

Booth is a walking injury and has no game at all. Potapenko... no game at all... I live in Seattle and have watched both players alot. Jerome James is very effective when he can stay on the floor. He is one of the harder centers in the league to move... plays good D... and has very soft hands around the hoop. He has a hard time staying on the court.
