Knick fan favorite David Lee, who is vying for the starting job at center with Eddy Curry, may sign an extension with the team ahead of the October 31 deadline, the New York Post is reporting.

According to the report, sources indicated strongly that Lee is probably going to get the extension, unless agent Mark Bartlestein comes in with an unreasonable number.

Sources close to Lee said contract numbers have yet to be exchanged, as Presidnet Donnie Walsh has told Bartlestein he'd like to first watch preseason before hitting the negotiating table.

As for Curry, the Knicks have looked to move his contract.

If Walsh can sharpen up his brain, he should be able to get rid of enough veterans that we can keep Lee. He just wasted 3 months though

$35 million for 2 years!! I hope you are kidding. Based on the CBA can he even ask for that?

he didn't waste anything, there is plenty of time to unload Zach and Curry. I think the best plan with Curry is to not play him until he gets in shape. if he has no playing time and is miserable here, he may opt out completely. i think it will be easy enough to raise Zach's trade value to the point where we don't have to send a #1 pick back and where we get pure expirings in return.

the big question as far as cap stuff goes is if they will make an offer to jamal when he opts out at the end of this season. he's not the ideal player for sure, but things will get real ugly if he's not here.

I would give Lee a 6 yr deal worth 55 million with a Player Opt Clause after the third year

that's a lot of cheddar. i think you sign Lee now to maybe 6yrs $44 million or let the market set his value when he's restricted.

I actually think Jamal has a minimal positive impact and you can easily get scoring elsewhere. He also should NOT be part of the long-term picture IMO. So I see no reason to re-sign him.

That's probably his market value. You can front load the contract. I don't know the exact formula but I suspect you could save about $3 mil in 2010 by front-loading it.

They should give him 6 years 54 mil.......18 mil for 2008/09, 9 mil for 2009/10, 0 for 2010/11, 9 mil for 2011/12 etc.
I just hope that people will like me

HA! Why not give him a $54 signing bonus and then $0 annually for 6 years?

No, First you extend Lee, then you trade him and Crawford to Memphis for Mayo and a pick because Lee can't make threats about leaving.

oohah

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Maybe let him play 1st, see how he adapts. If he can really ajust like he says then you gotta sign him i think

If you let him play it will cost you more money. He will average 15-10 this year what does that get you paid in the league?

the idea of not extending our best player because of mistakes made elsewhere.

We should be able to move Curry & Crawford- there is as much money as zach right there.
