There is no evidence to support that yet. I am way down on the Knicks medical staff though so who knows. No news maybe good news. Although the Knicks would never disclose such information. Hopefully, the guy got his needed rest and will be ready for training camp.

if this had happened in season, he would have missed what, 20+ games? and if he didn't miss that many, but played through it, his play basically would have been markedly diminished for half the season?

maybe it was a fluke- like beasley's cracked sternum.- and we are over reacting either because we have nothing else to discuss, or because gallo is such an unknown.

This is the only news I could find so far. Hopefully this means he's fine and we can move on with our lives, but I don't think we will know for sure until he is going against NBA comp every night. If he has a back problem it won't be long before it flares up.

Knicks rookie Danilo Gallinari, who suffered back soreness after his first NBA Summer League game, is expected to be ready for camp.
He didn't play again after that first summer game, but it sounds like he should be ready to start the season. There's been some talk about him starting at power forward if Zach Randolph is traded to Memphis, but that just doesn't seem realistic to us. David Lee is next in line to start, while Gallinari is just hoping to stay healthy, gain some weight and learn how to play in the NBA.

Gallinari's back-ing into rookie season

Got a concerning email from Italy....and, no, it wasn't from Stephon.

Danilo Gallinari's back still isn't 100 percent and now, with two weeks to go before training camp opens, the Knicks are starting to get concerned.

You may remember I shot down early speculation that Gallinari's back would be a long-term issue or was an example of him being fragile.

To that I say maybe I was wrong.

And fallibility is sexy, baby.

And early on we may be seeing more of Gallinari in his Armani suits than in his No. 8 jersey.

Gallo's not yet here in New York [bloghost note: Can someone explain why he hasn't he been here getting treatment since he left the Italian national team?Huh] but he's expected to arrive sometime within the week to get settled in New York and prepare for camp, which opens Sept. 30 in Saratoga Springs.

If Gallinari is still experiencing pain in the back -- it's really more related to his hamstrings and hips -- I would be surprised if the Knicks would allow him to play through it.

But, on the bright side, Jerome James will have someone to hang with at courtside while the rest of the team is practicing.

Gallo took a beating in his first -- and only -- NBA Summer League game. He went up against Robert Traylor and the Tractor laid him out a few too many times.

Stay tuned. . . .

Maybe the math didn't translate properly from Serbian, because Darko Milicic's optimistic "99 percent" prediction he'd be a Knick by the end of last week was just 100-percent inaccurate.

I'm thinking it might be more likely that Memphis goes into camp with Darko and takes the time to evaluate its guard situation. When Marc Iavaroni decides on which guards among Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry, OJ Mayo and Javaris Crittenton are in his rotation, perhaps the Grizz then may consider replacing Marko Jaric with one of the young guards to make the Zach Randolph trade more attractive to Donnie Walsh.

I'm sure the Grizz would want to see what kind of shape Z-Bo shows up in here, as well.

Stay tuned . . .

K-Berg had a good line when I told him about Gallinari's back situation. "Can the Knicks trade him for the rights to Frederic Weis?"

Ah, K-Berg. So witty.

Backs can be tough I have no innformation but I would think that missing training camp is a very good possibility for Gallinari. I really cant seeing this guy helping us until the the first of the year.

If I were the Knicks I would not let this guy touch the court until he is 100%. I don't care how young you are you don't mess with a back. I wish they'd be upfront and let us know what is going on with the back so that there isn't speculation.

Tell him to play through the pain. You will know right away if he is a stiff then you can move on. As Knicks fans we are to used to moving on from draft picks. Whats another draft pick.

I don't buy the notion that tractor blew Gallo's back out. The kid is supposedly, "still growing"......maybe he's got growing pains?

I'm just hoping its just a hoax and Gallo is ready to go training camp. Remember the kid didnt play for his national team. This could have been staged to help him get out of his obligations while saving face.

Backs are like knees, most of the time, once they start you are dealing with them for a long time. I did have issues with my back as a teenager around 16 years old. It was caused by me thinking I was the toughest guy in the world on the football team. I started to develop Sciatica which is an old man/pregnant woman's disease. I took care of myself, listened to my doctors and healed pretty quick. Haven't had issues since. With young people you never know. This guy could heal and it's never a problem again, or he is on the shelf every two months because his body can't hold up to the NBA pounding. Eitehr way, it's concerning, but not worth the risk of rushing him back. Outside of being a fan and wanting to see someone new on this team, what would we possibly gain by hurrying the guy back? I dare someone to answer that.

I would bet 5 dollars that he was hurt when we drafted him and they knew it. The Tractor Traylor hit was an aggravation injury.

Being injured after you are drafted has nothing to do with being "damaged goods."

I just wish we had an official pronouncement from the Knicks/Knicks' doctors on what kind of back injury Gallinari actually has. We know exactly what happened to Tom Brady- why can't we have a doctor come out and declare that Gallinari has this or that injury.? Very frustrating.

Hahn wonders why Gallinari did not leave from Italy to come back to NY to get treatment once he knew that he was not playing over there. The Knicks did have a trainer/physical therapist with him- but why not insist that he come to NY to rehab over here? Very strange, if you ask me, and it makes me think that the back injury may not be as bad as some fear it is. although I expect that may be wishful thinking on my part more than anything else.

Hopefully he will be OK.

I think if he was really bad off that they would insist that he come here to be treated and monitored. I just can't see a team that has a major investment and interest in the well being of a player just letting him hang out in another country if they has reason to believe he's injured and needs treatment. Unless he was purposely hiding his condition, which I don't think he would go that far to do.

Until I see an official statement i'm not going to get too worried.
