Lakers' center Andrew Bynum is reportedly seeking an $80 million extension from the team, according to Orange County Register.

Bynum's agent David Lee is going to attempt to grab that amount from the Lakers with his client's injured knee no longer a problem.

If the Lakers and Bynum don't come to terms on a deal before the Oct. 31 deadline, Andrew will become a restricted free agent next summer.

"If I handle my business on the court, the business off the court will be handled. All we can do is wait on that; that’s up to my agent to handle," Bynum said last week.

RealGM Note: At the time of his injury, Bynum was 'deserving' an annual salary of better than $13 million due to his 21.0 per 40 FIC, which put him amongst the top five players in the league on a per minute basis.

Bynum won't be near as good without Kobe to shoulder all the pressure. When he is the one getting doubled and tripled, the dunks don't come as easy.

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

Alright, he's got a ton of potential, and I would love to have him, but what on Earth has he done to earn that type of money at this point in his career?

Better question is, why is David Lee representing a Laker's player when he should be focusing on improving his mid range game to help us win?

I'd rather give him a huge contract than many of the high scorers who get huge contracts like Gilbert Arenas, Michael Redd, Ray Allen, Antawn (sp?) Jamison, etc. I think when fans evaluate contracts, people put too much emphasis on PPG. (Not refering to you but fans in general.)

Ray Allen is a star who has earned it. Jamison has helped his team in the playoffs every year, after Golden State. I'll give you Michael Redd, but he's at least earned a contract. 80 million though? Negative. Gilber Arenas, like Jamison, is a star who has helped lead the wizards to the playoffs, who just couldn't get past LeBron. (Besides this past year of course when he was injured) I would give Gilbert a contract too. Not as big a one as he has, but I'd give him a nice one.

Bynum had a half of a solid season so far, as a starter, then got injured. I believe you gotto earn your money, and he hasn't done it yet.

going rate for centers is about 60-70 mil (bogut, chandler, eddy, ok4, dalembert)...

bynum feels he's better than all of them. he also plays for a team that has money out the wazoo. he can ask for the money. if he doesn't get it with the lakers, i'm pretty sure someone will give him his $80 mil...

Good thing we did not draft him. He would have messed up our cap for 2010!

haha good catch. but also......this thread was about bynum deserving 80 mill contract or not. thanks for following directions.

bynum may become worth 80 mill but the question is what if at that time another team wants to throw 90 mill at him. what is cheaper for the lakers in the long run?

Nixluva is posting triangle screen grabs, even when nobody asks - Fishmike. LOL So are we going to reference that thread like the bible now? "The thread of Wroten Page 14 post 9" - EnySpree

He ain't worth this kind of money yet. Any team that pays him runs a high risk of having an overpaid disappointment for years to come. Don't get me wrong, I love his potential but I'm not sold that he's a prennial all-star as such a slary would dictate.

David Lee should get his money. If Walsh is willing to give Dodo $12 million, he should have no problem throwing money at Lee a much better player.

"Perenial" all-star? They usually get max 7 year contracts with their own team. You're not referring to all-stars but to perenial all-stars. $80 mil is a lot to us ordinary folk but would be a steal for a perenial all-star.

for a top 5 player in the NBA he easily deserves KG level dollars.

ha, ha, payback time I guess.

Persoanlly I would want to see more from him before we even discussed this type of money. It's one thing to have potential. A lot of guys have potential. But the Lakers made it to thye finals with him not playing. I think he needs to show his worth on the floor and how he can make the team better before a huge long term contract is offered. But of course this is the NBA so I'm sure he will get his money.

perhaps, but either way he hasn't proved to even be an all star, let alone a perenial :) one. Basically, he may be worth the money but he'll defenietly not be a superstar on the order of someone like KG, so he won't net you next tier talent for less money. He may substantially underperform and so you might in hindsight be overpaying alot for him. essentially the best you could do y giving him this kind of $ is break even.

Fair enough. I'm closer to Briggs' view on this one (although not as extreme as Briggs). I think he could easily become an 18/12 and 3 player who's a huge force on defense. His upside IMO is competing for DPOY awards when he's in his prime. But we shall see.
