Allan Houston's coming back as a New York Knick?
Alan Hahn
September 7, 2008

Allan Houston's plans at a second comeback attempt might happen again with the Knicks.

The 37-year-old former All-Star shooting guard has been working out and playing all summer and, according to multiple sources, Houston has spoken recently with Donnie Walsh about an invite to training camp later this month in Saratoga Springs.

A person close to Houston said he "looks at this as the last opportunity to give it an honest and fair shot." Houston retired on Oct. 17, 2005 after chronic knee troubles.

The Knicks have an interest in Houston - especially if he shows he can still shoot it like he used to - but Walsh is believed to have an interest in including Houston in something on the basketball operations side of the business if he isn't able to make the roster.

Houston started hinting at a comeback last year and the Knicks gave him an invite last fall. He arrived a week late because of the birth of his daughter, Jade, and didn't last more than a week of practices. He played sparingly in one preseason game before calling it quits, citing he was not physically ready to the rigors of the NBA game. But Houston continued to workout throughout the winter and played at the Nike Pro City league this summer.

H2O would be good for the young players. I hope they could maybe cut Big Snacks and malik to make room if he shows he can help. If not then he'd make a great coach for shooting.

Knicks currently don't have a real back-up shooting guard.....they have a role for him. Houston looked terrible last time he tried. We'll see......if his legs are good enough to run for about 15, 20 mins or probably less, then he's worth a vet minimum deal.

As a coach, I am for him. But as a player, we have more than enough - 17 if the trade goes though. Give the younger guys a chance.

I like that, and I like the fact that walsh is even looking to keep him around on the operations end.... I met Houston some years ago here in Atlant, he is just a nice guy, took pictures with my wife and son, and did so willingly, he stood there and took 3 different pictures. Class Act, has always been, even during his playing days with the knicks was a true professional 100% of the time...

If I take pictures with your wife does that mean I get to go to training camp too?
If you are still following the team and reading sites like this, there is nothing, short of your own demise, that is going to throw you off this train.

I dont know if i like this idea or not but we could get rid of a lot of baggage if we got rid of jerome james, jefferies, malik etc... I dont know if I want H20 maybe in the operations part but Walsh should just cut the dead players, take the hit money wise and lets get this show on the road!!!I want to see a Knicks team thats exciting to watch, gives some hope to the fans, and makes me WANT TO WATCH THEM.

Allan, please leave us alone. This yearly comeback attempt is tiring.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

what do we need w/guys like H20 when we have invaluable members of the team that contribute so mightily to our success in Jefferies & Mardy Collins?

We don't need any of those guys. Jeffries and the rest blow and Houston is shot and can only play 5 minutes a game. Furthermore, a rebuilding team like this is not the right place for him. He needs to go to a contender.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

if Houston is shot then a contender won't want him to begin with... his value is in his leadership & ability to mentor some of the younger guys if u ask me... replace Marbury's poisonous influence w/a guy like Allan Houston, & even if he can't play a lick i'll take that in a heartbeat.

**** it... let's jsut have half the roster be coaches. Sign Houston and Oakley (if he's still trying to comeback) and give them clipboards along with Rose.

Do the Zach trade. Sign Houston, sign PEJ for part of our remaining MLE for just the right number of years, so we have his bird rights, cut Malik, cut Marbury, and cut Jerome. We have nada need for either of those 3.
