I read on page six today that Starbury bought a private jet.

Usually someone who buys a Jet like that often leases it back out 95% of the time. He doesn't have the type of income that would suggest he could afford a stright purchase nor would it make any financial sense. If he can lease it out at 25k a pop over 300 days that's 7mm in revs-operating costs

MAYBE Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury should have consulted Sean Combs before he bought himself a private jet. Marbury - in the last year of his Knicks contract, which will pay him another $21 million - is said to have plunked down about $45 million for the aircraft. But Combs, who already owns a jet, isn't using it because fuel costs have skyrocketed. The hip-hop mogul explains on Diddy Blog No. 12, which he videotaped in an airline terminal before boarding a commercial flight, "Gas prices are too mother[bleep]ing high," Combs says, wearing an off-kilter Yankees cap. "I've been flying back and forth to LA pursuing my acting career. If I fly back and forth twice a month, that's like $250,000 round trip. [Bleep] that! I'm back on American Airlines now . . . and I'm in coach!"

Thats a lot of days to lease out.

Im not up on the private aviation market, But I'd think operationg costs must be pretty high.

Im sure he is not carrying this thing by himself, nor the brains behind the decision.

LOL. That is hilarious. Why Marbury would buy a private jet is beyond me. It is not like he has busines ventures all around the world. The dude is from New York and stays primarily in New York. Why the hell do you need a private jet? He is going to be broke in 5 years messing around with that jet. Hopefully, it is a business venture and he plans to charter it out. That is the only way this makes any sense.

I'm jumping to conclusions like everyone else, so this may be unfair to Marbs, but I have a feeling dude is going to be in trouble. I'm guessing this purchase is more about showing his friends and fam the bling and less about a wise decision, but I hope not. As much as I dislike the guy I do not wish bankruptcy on anyone.

Anyone else think it's strange that he would make a decision like this shortly after being shorted millions on his shoes?

I hope this story is untrue.

I wonder if they teach the rookies that it's a wise decision to purchase a jet, (Even though even A-Rod has trouble getting one) in those classes that Playa said wasn't teaching and giving them enough.

I agree that bankruptcy sucks and I wish that on nobody, but this has "Hey, let me fall flat on my face and never recover." written all over Stephs situation, especially with the poor economy and gas prices.

Heck, P-Diddy said himself that it's cheaper to fly first class all the time.

Did P-Diddy need a class to figure out he was losing money? Hopefully Marbs is more financially stable then we think. Who knows, we don't know the guy so he could be in perfect position to do this. But like everyone else I think our guesses are correct. This is another attempt to show his peeps how important he is and the broke mobile may be soon to follow.

Another question as a follow up to my first one about buying a plane even though he was just shorted millions.

Does anyone find it strange he would make this decision when his contract is about to expire and there is no guarantee he will ever get another one? Wouldn't you do something like this after signing a huge contract, not when it's coming to an end?

In perfect position to spend 45 million on a plane, his net worth isn't 100 million so spending half of your net worth on a plane is par for the course. NBA players are brain dead, not all of them, but a large majority can't spend it quick enough. I have a friend that is AI's banker and he said the guy never has more than 10k in the bank at once 10k, he has made over 100 million, you almost feel sorry for these guys.

He is about as mentally secure as the last person that put a tat on his head, that guy made more money then steph and now owns millions.
