Zach Randolph and the Grizzlies

One predominant trade rumor that's out there is a little bit anachronistic, failing to take into account the radical change of direction in the Knicks' front office. This one has Zach Randolph, who truly is on the table, going to Memphis for Darko Milicic and Marko Jaric. No, it's not that Serbs are simply unpopular in Memphis, it's that neither Darko nor Marko are likely to be huge impact players next season.

Milicic has yet to live up to the hype that comes along with being a number two overall pick. Part of that has to do with his not getting an opportunity to play early on, and part of it is he's always asked to play out of position. He's not a center, and has no idea what to do with the ball when he catches it with his back to the basket. I suppose the logic here is that Mike D'Antoni could use him like he used Amare Stoudemire - more of a catch-and-shoot type of offense. Sadly, Milicic will never be close to as good as Amare.

As for Jaric, he's a solid bench player who can drill the three, handle the ball some, and create offense. The problem is, put these two guys together and it's crazy to trade Zach Randolph for them. Randolph is 20 and 10 waiting to happen, and with the right leaders around him he could be an All-Star. It's easy to see why Memphis would do this, but the Knicks? This is no longer the all-Isiah team, with the end game seemingly just to acquire as many bad contracts and underachieving players as possible.

Don't line up for your Randolph jerseys just yet, Grizzlies fans.

I used to like jaric at one time, I thought he was a decent player at one time....

I would prefer to trade Curry rather than Zach but if this is our only option then I would do it

darko could do well in a d'antoni offense- spacing and 3s. if this gets us under the cap sooner (2010), do it!

Good trade if it goes down like that. Darko will never be better than Lebron as Dumars, Brown and Ford thought but he is a solid role player. I do find it troubling that this will be his 4th team in five years. Jaric is just an expensive bench warmer. I disagree that Darko fits D'Antoni style. He is a half court role player, not very swift.

First of all big props. go to MS who came up with something similar a few days ago, well before this rumor surfaced.

Speaking of MS, I like his idea a little better for us - I want a little more than Darko back in return here. Like him or not, Zach Randolph is a 25-26 yr. old effective 20/10 PF. Gotta get either Javaris Crittenton or Kyle Lowry back in this deal somehow. Don't care at all for Marko Jaric. Walsh needs to flesh this out a little more in our favor. Might have to sweeten this up a little by including Nate or Mardy. But hey, this is a start (unloading Zach's contract). Glad we're have dialogue with someone, let's see where this goes....

I personally would love to get Lowry back - I think Darko/Lowry for Zach is more than fair, if at the expense of getting back Lowry we have to take on Marko's contract, then I will gladly do it. I've wanted him since he came out of Villanova and was hoping and praying that Isiah was going to pick him and it never happened.

But, I'm not giving away Zach. If they want him, they gonna have to pay for him. Darko and Jaric plus lowry or javaris(sp)......knicks shouldn't have to sweeten ****. Memphis is already getting a power fwd that can put numbers on anybody in this league. He isn't Brand or Boozer but he is a notch right behind them and several notches above most of the power fwds in the league.

Jaric should be what brent Barry is. A bad ass mofo that can simply play guard and shoot daggers. Jaric is good for steals too.

Darko is still young he can block shots and finish. He hasn't really shown that shot or his whole game. I'd love to give him a shot.

Lowry or Javaris is just icing. Nate still may be better than both but I'd rather have options than not. If Nate breaks out then he deserves to be resigned. If he is asking too much then let him go.

I agree totally, but to get them to include Crittenton or Lowry in the deal, if it came down to it I wouldn't let Nate or Mardy hold up anything.

it seems idiotic to me; we have a full year to hold on to Zach and sell high...
Donnie is a mart basketball man, I don't see this trade going down as currently constituted.
