Paul Pierce says he's the best player in the world

Finals MVP Paul Pierce, who recently spent three days at a ball camp in Madrid, is making, ahem, news about what he said to a Spanish reporter. The money translation, via RedsArmy: "Q: Is Kobe really the best player in the world? Pierce: I don't think Kobe is the best player. I'm the best player. There's a line that separates having confidence and being conceited. I don't cross that line but I have a lot of confidence in myself." Surprisingly, Spurs fans seem more upset by this than actual Lakers fans. (Update: OK, Lakers Nation is pretty upset, too.)


He did play like the best in the world offensively in the finals.

With his current success where is Pierce rated as top players??

Celtics forward Paul Pierce was handcuffed by Las Vegas police early Sunday after he was uncooperative during a traffic stop for driving erratically, according to The Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Pierce reportedly "calmed down" after fifteen minutes and the handcuffs were removed soon after.

"We find this happens a lot of times," public information officer Bill Cassell said. "Someone is a little agitated and when they’re placed in handcuffs they rethink things."

A breathalyzer test showed that Pierce registered below the .08 level that defines legal intoxication in Nevada.

"We don’t cite everybody we stop," Cassell added. "Sometimes we give just a verbal warning. It’s based on the totality of the circumstances."

I heard that the officer who stopped Pearce was a diehard Laker fan who had been devastated by Boston's victory.

Also heard that Pearce, when asked about his poor driving, responded, "I was not driving poorly or erratically. I am the best driver in the world. I have an opinion, I have a right to have one and that’s the way I feel."

I hear he is the best breathalizer-test-taker in the world too.
His actual blood alcohol was 1.5. He showed THOSE cops.

Pierce played like an All Time player this post season. I really can't knock the guy for feeling he's the best. No one could stop him and he also played solid D to boot. I think he deserves to crow even if I never liked the guy. He stepped up and gained my respect.

You can't knock the way the guy played. But every time you talk in these situations people lose a tiny bit of respect for you. Who do you have respect for more?

Why didn't he say this last year? I think you have to be the best player on your team before you make these statements.
