Maciej Lampe, Knicks

Lampe
Stats: 17.2 ppg, 7 rpg on 51 percent shooting in Rocky Mountain Revue
The skinny: Lampe got off to a horrendous start at the Reebok Pro Summer league, but by the third game, he started to get a clue. His best game was a 25-point, 11-rebound outburst on July 23rd versus the Mavs. While Lampe did lots of his damage on the outside (he shot 45 percent from three) it was his work in the paint that had Knicks coaches drooling. Lampe doesn't really have the quickness to play the three, but when the team moved him to center, his ability to face the basket or post up his man in the paint made him a matchup problem. Not bad for an 18-year-kid who slipped all the way to the second round on draft night.

When he does it in preseason I will get excited, the kid is only 18 and will be playing against "FULL GROWN MEN". I know he has skillz, but he needs to get experience playing at this level.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

playa good point , but it is not like he is overpowering a bunch of HS players, the kid is doing things that will be hard to stop period. He is 7 foot and can put the ball on the floor like a guard. He has a jump hook and a face up game that will be difficult for other big men to contend with, I don't care who is out there. Now I am not saying he will come in and take over, but it will be interesting to see these big guys try and guard him...

I've been reading scouting reports I've found on google (look up lampe scouting report) and have been trying to figure out what's so great about Milicic. I also checked in on Tskitishvili for comparison's sake.

Lampe isn't as quick or athletic as Milicic or any of the others, so at this stage he isn't valued as highly. Milicic and Skita project to be more Nowitzki / Garnett type mobile forwards than Lampe. They have the potential to be good shot blockers and good perimeter defenders. Lampe, not as much. :)

Lampe is a skilled player, perhaps a more accomplished outside shooter than any of them at his age. He's also already has the building blocks for a solid post game in place (once again, for his age). It looks like he's got a bigger frame than the others and already has more meat on his bones than Dirk. He has the potential to be a legit big man (vs a tweener forward) once his body matures a bit more.

Comparisons usually point to Nowitzki (what young, 7' skilled big man from Europe ISN'T?!), but I'd like to see someone come up with a better analogy. Perhaps a bigger, vintage Tom Gugliotta?

I like to equate Lampe to Vlade Divac. Big guy with a nice frame who can both post and shoot the outside shot. Not as quick as say Dirk, but more meat on the bones to take the inside beatings.

the Divac comparison is perfect. Lampe DOES have a good post game, and is a good rebounder. He's more than willing to mix it up inside and bang around. He proved that in the summer game. What makes him special is his ability to shoot from long range will stretch defenses and draw out some of those big defenders.

Its the classic play. If your big man can shoot you put him on the wing. When your slasher, pg (yes Knick fans, there ARE pg's in the NBA that can penetrate) goes to the hoop the opposing big man has a tough decision. Either come with help and leave the great shooter open for a wide open look or layup, or stay home on his defender allowing a layup or a guy to attack the basket.

The reason Spree had so many assists and Kurt so many points is teams would rather let Kurt shoot open jumpers than let Spree take them to the hoop off the dribble.

Ok....thanks for the stats, but what are you trying to say? When was that game? Most are aware that Lampe can put up some good numbers.

What are you talking about. Credibility? this is comming from a guy who was down on Jason kidd. The thing about credibility Ice is not always being right or wrong but having the balls to put yourself out there and make a statement or evaluation on a player, person or thing and not wait until someone else says something and sit back and ridicule their opinions. I have seen Lampe play 4 time, and from what I have seen, I am impressed with, now I do value credibility and that is why I will never say any off the wall shyt. I like this kids game and I feel he can be a very good player. Now I am not saying he is the next Dirk, but from what I HAVE SEEN, the kid has skills...

Now say something.....

I think the kid is closer to a Pau Gasol than a Divac. Divac does not handle the ball facing the defender like this kid does. I can see why they compare him to Dirk but he is similar but very different. It will be interesting seeing what kind of player he develops into....

From the site that Yonnny posted....Lampe Prss conf.:

What is going on with your contract with New York Knicks?
I should play for NYK next season. Agents are still negotiating my "buy out" price with Real Madrid.

How do you find that fans and media are really focused on you? Does it disturb you in practices and games?
I am trying to play as good as I can, especially here in Poland in front of fans in Wlabrzych. Basketball is my favourite thing to do and it still gives me a lot of fan.

Did you expect last year that you will play in NBA?
I wanted to take part in 2004 NBA draft but I had an ppportunity to show my skills in minor Spanish league so NBA scouts saw me and we deceided to try this year.

The best and the worst memory from your stay in USA?
The worst were in the start and the best were in the end...

What are the differences between American and European basketball?
American players are phisycally stronger and better prepared to the game. In USA basketball is much faster than European.

How do you estimate your chances for advancing to European Champions finals?
I don’t know, I’ve just arrived and I have a lot of to learn before the game. I hope that similiar to Polish cadettes and juniors we will be able to advance. We have a strong team, so if we play as a team there should be no problem. I will do my best to help my teammates.

How is your adventure with basketball started?
When I was a kid I played hockey but later I was too high, so I started to play basketball.

How do you spęd your spare time? What is your favourite dish, music and do you have a girlfirend?
I eat the same things you do, I like hip hop music, watching movies and reading books. I have no girlfriend.

Where would you like to live?
In Lodz, Poland.

Are you going to met Cezary Trybanski, who is In Poland AT the moment?
I don’t know, at the moment I’m focused on this tournament. I have to be back in NYC on August 19th and I would like to have a short vacation.

I wasnt down on Jason i didn't think he was the best point in the league.

if you want to kill me then you can kill me on Bibby.

I gave you the rope, you of course hung your self.

Naw tkf we both know i am wrong a bunch of times to, but i agree on your sentiments on credibilty, And i had to pull your card on this one.

I jumped the gun, however.

You the guy that spent the better part of last season killing Euro players there style there game with dirk in paticuliar as soon as we get one here you go talking how good he looks.

makes me think iff we had Dirk you would noimate him Hall of Fame. You a homer dude check the records i might leave it at this unless you start something

go ahead say something.

Ice: You took the bait. When I was talking euro players, I was talking about them as a whole. If you remember just a week ago, I posted and you agreed that there was a lot of hype with these euro guys and not even half of these guys will be that good, and I stand by that, and as far as dirk goes, you know I dogged dirk about being soft, not that he wasn't good but he was soft, I do not want a 7 footer that plays a majority of his game from outside. Lampe has shown that he will do both inside and out, and I am fine with that, so I don't see where you can pull my card with the dirk thing, you are way off there. Also I said Lampe reminded me a lot of Gasol, which is well documented in here that I am high on Pau Gasol...

So what is your beef?

Holla back!!!

If you dare!!!

I will let it pass mr summer league Marv Albert, how is Vranes doing is he the next olajuwon, I'm curious on his sumer league activites.

no question dirk is top 10 material.

if i saw dirk spending most of his time trying to post up power forwards. i'd wonder what the hell he was doing. he aint gonna drop 30 points posting up.

only shaq can do that

all those years as a fan and now i'm the anti-knick. life is crazy aint it.

haha..Ice that is bullshyt!!! LOL.. you know my gripe with dirk was that he was too soft and stayed outside waaaaay too much... but keep twisting chubby checker...

And you are missing the point, I did trash the euro players but mostly it was their style of play and the world games that I was trashing but again you are doing your chubby checker routine..

that is cool, I still think dirk is good, but I rather have KG, Duncan,Kobe, T-mac... But that doesn't change the fact that I still like Lampe either, and if he plays soft like dirk, I will rag him too, but so far He seems like he doen't mind going down low..

If you need pike's help Ice.. feel free.... I stand alone...
