Jerome James has one year left on his contract with a Player Option after that which could make it 2 years. If we were to waive James now and he signs with another team would he revoke his rights to the Player Option or can he still accept the option even though he is on another squad?

What was that old trick? Hook a Twinkie on to a fishing pole and throw it into traffic

Nobody is signing Jerome James so this scenario isn't worthy of discussion.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

You're talking about trading him to an NBA franchise?

Hey, these guys just answered the scenario I been always saying: IF IT'S NOT THE CONTRACT THAT THEY DON'T WANT, THEN IT'S THE USELESS PLAYERS. And jerome is one of the biggest busts in the NBA. But hey' he's our' bust!

You noticed nobody's knocking down the door to go after suckbury? Even though it's his last year!

But everyone's sure interested in our young guys. And that's were we should draw the line.
I'll never trust this' team again.

I'm curious what the answer is even if it's not likely to apply to this player

Sure about that? Maybe he would have to exercise the option first, then sign?

I'm pretty sure. If you waive a player, you pay all him all of his money unless there is a team option.

What about if there is a buyout? Can the buyout be structured in a way that he does not pick up his player option, but w pay him anyway? That would save us Luxury Tax money and take his useless 6 Million off the book a year earlier.

I guess there is always the possibility that Isiah gets a job with a team that "needs a center" and still has their mid-level exception

a buyout does not change the cap hit. only way the cap $$ changes is if another team picks him up...that dollar amount is deducted from the knicks.

A buyout generally does not change a cap hit. That is true. But my question was based on the player option not being picked up as a result of a favorable buyout for the player. For instance, we tell James we give him 10 Million if he turns down the player option and accepts the buyout.
