Pierce To Knicks: Dump Marbury

Celtics star Paul Pierce believes that the New York Knicks needs to part ways with guard Stephon Marbury before they can truly start to get better, the New York Daily News are reporting.

"He makes the biggest contract and he's one of the oldest players on the team," Pierce said yesterday. "That doesn't really fit into a rebuilding plan, just to be honest."

"I'd try to trade him or buy him out at this point," added Pierce, who still believes Marbury can be a starting point guard in the NBA. "I just think he needs a fresh start somewhere else. Marbury needs to be on a veteran team where he fits into what they're trying to do a little bit more."

please, let marbury wind up on the celtics after we buy him out. just so i can read the sports guy's reaction.

Thats the whole gig. If the Knicks wave Marbury---he goes to Boston Cleve Miami--he ends up hurting the Knicks--Marbury is the kind of player ANY of the top tier teams would love to have on the cheap.

once released, Marbury will head to either Boston or Miami. WHy would he go to boston to back-up Rondo?

He's not another old, broken down sam cassell.

Marbury can still play but needs to be in the right system to flourish. I think he goes to Miami to play alongside wade, marion and beasley once he's released from the Knicks. Miami will sign him for the Veteran's minimum.

Obviously, he is trying to influence the Knicks to cut Marbury so Boston can go after him. What player makes those type of comments about another player unless they have an ulterior motive.

I honestly don't see any team signing him- He's looked washed up and he has a terrible attitude.

I don't think he'd last a month with boston - they'd have to let him go.

I say keep him and dont play him. And if a team bites, trade him. Cutting him he will have an amazing year for whatever team he will be on. Then by the second year or third he will turn into garbage again. That's what he does.

And this Pierce totally telling the Knicks he wants Marbs on his team. Bathterd.

The only way Marbury goes to Boston is if we buy him out. Theres no possible way that we can make a trade with Boston.

that's the thing though - here he's looked at as the face of the franchise (and it's failures) and in his own mind at least, is asked to be the super-star. i think the only way he can rebuild his career now is to play third or even fourth fiddle to more established, successful stars. i don't think he can ever succeed here under any circumstances. there's too much baggage now.

Wow. I have to disagree with that sentiment. I think there are some top teams the would take a chance on him - but I really don't thing "ANY" top tier team would. His bad history in the locker room will make teams hesitate.

We are so far in the hole that I don't really care where the players we trade/cut end up or how they do. We have to do what it takes to get out of our hole
