Knicks Pursue Duhon; Lee Not On The Block

Jul 02, 2008 1:21 AM EST

Seeking an engine to drive Mike D'Antoni's system, Knick officials met with point guard Chris Duhon on Tuesday.

Duhon will weigh his options with a number of teams showing interest. After his meeting in New York, Duhon headed to Orlando to meet with the Magic.

The Knicks are also considering free-agents Jason Williams and Anthony Carter before the team explores a trade to acquire Portland's Steve Blake or Charlotte's Raymond Felton.

According to a person with knowledge of the team's plans, "nothing" is happening involving a potential trade of David Lee. The Knicks have fielded plenty of calls about Lee but the team is not actively shopping him yet.

The team has received inquiries about Zach Randolph as well but the Knicks are not likely to be actively pursuing trades until after after July 9 when the free-agent negotiating period comes to a close.

could just be the calm before the storm, or maybe they found out about his value and decided they can't get anything worthwhile at the time being.

i hope they take a serious look at keeping him and trading zachary.

I'd love to know what the offers are for Zach
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Translation we have shopped David Lee and Zach Randolph to all 30 teams and could not get anything done.

I would like to see good value come back for Curry if there is something out there. Then play Lee and Zach together.

Trade Zach for nothing. Play Lee with Curry under D'Antoni's system. I bet Curry has a much better year, but still has no blocks and minimal rebounds.

I think the Lee talks have probably been a bit overblown too. There are certainly some trades w/ him that make sense. That he's been asked for in every trade discussion involving the Knicks is obvious and why his name is probably out there most of all.

Regarding Zach, our best strategy with him might be to get a partial savings for 2010. Package him for 2 players, one expiring before 2010, the other with a contract term equal to or greater than his. But we could still potentially save 9-10 million in such a scenario as far as the cap is concerned.

This probably signifies that other teams wanted Lee on the cheap and we didn't budge. That's probably a good thing, since some people on this board were of the mind set as using Lee as a throw in on trades, which didn't make much sense.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

I don't know how I see the deal posted about 15 times a week myself. Ether a team has a big time scorer at the 5 and wants lee or they have a roll player at the 5 and want Zach. No team would want both of them.

That makes no sense. Lee can be traded easily. Zach couldn't be though. and probably nor could they be as a package because they play the same position, and lee is due to get paid soon.

If Zach gets traded Lee get an extension. If Lee is with the team he will start and have a huge year. Unless Zach and Curry can hit halfcourt jumpers they will never play in the system. The only way Zach is traded is with Lee. You buyout Zach and keep Lee. Zach set back the Knicks 3 years

Find a team willing to give zach 3 years 15mm buyout Randolph 15/49=34mm--the savings are different witht he cap--its actually huge savings in 2010--enough to fit Lees new salary with little ramifications to cap. Getting rid of Crawford or Curry wont be hard.

the money zach gets from another team is money we don't have to pay - but that money DOES stay on our cap.

if we buy him out for $45M the buyout gets broken up evenly over three years - $15M a year. even if another team signs him for 3yr $10M - the $15M a year for three years stays on our cap. we don't have to pay that $10M he gets from another team, so in effect, our buyout would only cost $35M, but the $45M stays as the cap hit. it's a good financial savings, but not as helpful to our cap as trading him.

Can D-lee not have a good shot, or was he not allowed to shoot beyond 10 feet?

Guy wants nice extension, if he is adding 500 shots a day to his work out routine might it help his cause?

i always wonder that about players. i feel like i rarely see an nba player add that to his game. i know lee probably shoots a lot in practice, but how can he not improve that?

i was a bad shooter in junior high. i shot all summer and my first year of high school i was hitting threes with ease. i know it's about having a quick release in the nba, but it seems like a player who can't hit a wide open jumper in year 1 rarely learns how to hit it by year 4 in this league. it seems like it should be the easiest aspect to add to your game. if dlee could add that, he'd be lethal in D'Antoni's system.

if we buy him out for $45M [ny will never buy him out as such a high number never ever ever happen]
34mm would put 11.3 accross the board saving. I think his cap number is 17.8 in 2010? that saves 6.5mm against the cap.
