I think he'll be bought out soon...hopefully.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I can't believe you hatters are now talking about cutting Big Game! What did he ever do to anybody? You are blinded by your hat for Cap'n Zeke.
I'm just glad Marv isn't seeing this. https://
It's not so hard.

What I dont understand is how the league allows guys like this to keep their contracts. At the very least they should let a team cut the player and not have them count against the cap. He has barely seen the floor since he signed that huge contract.
What was Zeke thinking??!?!?!? This signing alone is reason enough to get fired. "If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just SUCK." Kenny Powers

Perhaps they are trying to get him off the book via medical reasons (see Darius Miles) instead of waiving him outright.

Posted by knicksbabyyeah: he has to be off the floor for two whole years for legit medical reasons for that to work. i don't think that's an option. i agree that the guaranteed contract is something that really hurts the nba - a guy like jerome james should be allowed to report in such pathetic shape year after and keep his deal. but it's just something teams have to be smarter about. you sign your core guys to long-term deals and fill in the gaps with shorter contracts the way miami and phoenix have done in recent years. ¿ △ ?

Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I think Walsh wants to try for an injury exemption against the cap.

3 contracts are screwing the Knicks....Jared, Jerome and Q.....3 players the Knicks don't need. If the Knicks could lose these ****s they would look so bad.
With Chandler, Balkman and Gallo here......where does Q fit? He's not a shooting guatd cuz he can't shoot. Kill the noise about being the best defender. He is worthless. Jared should be one of the best small fwds in the league. Something awful happens when he attempts to shoot it. Subscribe to my Podcast https://youtube.com/c/DiehardknicksPodcast

Jerome's contract is as follows:
6.2 million in 08/09 6.6 million in 09/10 (Player Option) If we buy him out, can we structure the buyout in a way that will give him max money, but allows us to get out of having that 6.6 million count against our salary cap the following season? |

Posted by Ira:Posted by nyvector16:I don't think it works that way. I think it's the contract that determines the cap hit, not the buyout. I think the cap hit remains the same unless we get some sort of injury exception. Others may know more about this. Here is a somewhat clarification of the rule. "There is one exception whereby a player can continue to receive his salary, but the salary is not included in the team's team salary. This is when a player is forced to retire for medical reasons and a league-appointed physician confirms that he is medically unfit to continue playing. There is a waiting period of one year following the injury or illness before a team can apply for this salary cap relief. If the waiting period expires mid-season (on any date prior to the last day of the regular season), then the player's entire salary for that season is removed from the team's team salary. For example, in March 2003 the Knicks were allowed to remove Luc Longley's entire 2002-03 salary from their books (and since the luxury tax is based on the team salary as of the last day of the regular season, the Knicks avoided paying any tax on Longley's salary). This provision can also be used when a player dies while under contract. Teams are not allowed to trade for disabled players and then apply for this salary cap relief. Only the team for which the player was playing when he was disabled may request this relief. If a player retires, even for medical reasons, his team does not receive a salary cap exception to acquire a replacement player." http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#53 So if JJ were to retire for medical reasons, the above would take place. If we buy him out it is another situation. This website in FAQ discusses every situation imaginable. It is truly mindboggling. A GM reallyhas to know his legal/rules points. 1 of the worst FA signings ever... i still get the chuckles when i think about the posters who told us we were overreacting when that all went down.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
