The scowl...the braids...the energy...all meant nothing more that 16 points per game. As far defense, check the stats and you will see that Spree did not hold any of the stars in check last year. Kobe had 46 points and 40 against him. Tracy McGrady also averaged over 40 points per game against the Knicks. In fact he posted his career high of 55 points against the Knicks last year. In every case these players scored way over their season average while being guarded by our so-called defensive stopper, Spree. Therefore all of these posters who are asking, "who will check the Kobe's etc. now that Spree is gone," maybe you should ask the yourselves the following question. Does it really matter? These players can't be stopped anyway. The best you can hope to do is contain them. And clearly, Spree didn't do any better than anyone else in the league at doing that.

I notice that nobody has responded with any logic. It has been all emotional. "Spree made us watch the Knicks...The Knicks are now soft and white..." The fact is the Knicks will have a better record than they did last year, something that would not have happened by keeping Spree at small forward. The love affair with Spree is simply based on emotion. His play over the last couple of years clearly indicated that it was time to move on.

aight.

  • KVH has the same game as Housless. They will clash for shots
  • KVH, for his size, is posted up waaaaay too frequently
  • Housless will now have to guard the same people you posted about. Problem is that if they dropped 35 on Spree, they'll drop 50 on him
  • NY will be as it was last year: mediocre. If you're happy with a token playoff visit you may enjoy it.
  • Spree is GONE. Let's move on and not do like (AHEM!) certain postas who can't get past personnel who are no longer here! He's no longer anybody's 'problem'. KVH is the problem now
  • KVH chokes at crunch time. If Housless' J is off, we have NOBODY to go to anymore
  • KVH repeatedly chokes in the playoffs

i dont have the time or energy or interest, but i will point out you are missing the whole point,

the knicks may have a better record than last year becuase of two things, most of the talent has gone west, and how could they not have a better record.

here is some sats since you want hard core evidence, latrell misses the first 8 games they win one , game ONE GAME.

if you tthink basketball is all about scoring , and numbers you missing the whole point. we all know Van horn can score but benitez can save as well.

You say that people are responding with emotional comments, but you say stuff like "The fact is the Knicks will have a better record than they did last year". Fact? Really now? Maybe we don't believe in your crystal ball predictions, newbie.

Thanks for the comic relief, fella.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year. GO KNICKS!

more numbers

the knicks were one of the worse teams to go to the free throw line last year,

KVH is one of the worst forwards to go to the line

at 6-10 250 he is projected to play small foward tells you he is too soft to play power forward cause he is a power foward size.

does not play well in the paint,

at 6-10 he is bigger than anyone on our starting front court, he has a max deal and one more extra deal on his contract than spree, what does he add to the team?

who is going to recoup for his lack of defense, othella ?

why are you excited about the knicks.

you just a closet sprewell hater, ok understood but what excites you about the knicks?

Hey Ice, Don't forget that Van Horn is too slow to guard any real SF's. Mike Franchesca asked Scott LayDown today if he thought Van Horn could guard any SF in the league and LayDown COULD NOT ANSWER. He stuttered and stumbled and stammered like the dummy he is.

Too funny to even describe.

Nah, man. Gotta burst your bubble there. I've heard LayDUMB interviewed on the FAN before. It's not about KVH. He ALWAYS stutters and stumbles and stammers like the dummy he is!

I swear to God you could ask that man if he thinks that the Knicks will play their home games at the Garden, he'd still "ummm" and "uhhh" you to death!

Ice you have some good points but this one is weak...what talent has gone west? Payton...but he was in the east for very few games. I'd say if McDyess does not play and the Knicks win more games than last year it was a good trade. If not....it was a bad one. Agree?

...Which brings out the point that WE JUST DON'T KNOW what the hell is gonna happen...

We can speculate, but until the offseason is done, we don't have a clue what type of Knicks squad this is going to be, or what Chaney's defensive scheme is going to be, etc...

Man, October can't get here soon enough.

I'm thru with trying to discuss this issue about Van Horn, he hasn't even played a pre season game with the knicks and nobody gives him a chance. Didn't MSG give spree A SECOND CHANCE? PROBLEM IS HE BLEW IT! He blew it by dissing management on several occasions AND LAYDEN AND dOLAN got rid of him and made it personal.
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Spree was playing out of position because he insisted on being a starter. The Knicks already had a shooting guard, who by the way can actually shoot the basketball. You act as though Spree was already on the team when Houston arrived and that he sacrificed by playing out of position. It was the actual opposite. At this stage in their careers, Houston is a better shooting guard than Spree. All of this playing out of position crap is simply an excuse used by blind Spree fans.

Players who play out of position should also be able to use that to their advantage at the offensive end. How come Spree never took advantage of his quickness and drove by slower small forwards who were trying guard him? Instead he became a three point shooter and a bad one at that. Kurt Thomas played out of position at center and his numbers went up across the board. That is simply an excuse. Furthermore, even with KG, the inside presence you claim Spree needed I can guarantee you that Houston will have a better year than Spree barring any injury.

do you know why kurt thomas numbers went up...cuz there are no legitimate centers in the entire eastern conference! get a clue...you have no idea what leaders are to a team and how they motivate other players to pick up their game...do u think don chaney ..allan houston or kvh is gonna give the emotional lift the knicks need when they are gettin abused by the entire nba? maybe you also have forgotten how bad the knicks were without sprewell in the begininning of the year and if u mean to tell me van horn wouldve done the job and kept them competitive then ur as delusional as layden...the knicks werent good with sprewell last year but they will certainly be alot worse without him...
