im pretty certain that Westbrook was our first choice from watching D'Antoni talk about the guys they wanted and how they were gone. So Walsh and Mike were prob. as shocked as everyone else when he went 4 to Seattle

i think it went something like this: Mayo was the first choice but Walsh was unable to trade up for him so Westbrooke became the guy... then when the Sonics took him that left Gallinari next on their draft board.

It's called being unprepared. This is only a sign that if and when we make trades during the summer we're going to get our bunghole stretched.

I think they wanted Mayo all along but couldn't figure out how to move up get him, and after that they were locked in on The Rooster.

how is that being unprepared? this is not the "we weren't prepared for Marcus to fall" spiel Isiah gave.

Minny wanted Mayo, the Sonics wanted Rush, they went with the highest rated guy on their board.

Every time he hits a shot, MSG should sample Alice in Chains.... "yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh, here's comes the rooster.........."

HAHA!! Everyone would kill themselves if he ever had a good shooting game.

yeah i don't see it as being unprepared... they explored every avenue to trade up to get Mayo & MIN obviously wanted him... that left Westbrooke at #4... they took a risk & it didn't pan out... it happens... Gallinari has yet to play a game for us & yet he's already a bust... i mean come on, i was even willing to give Sweetney a shot even though i hated that pick... let him prove he's a bust before we call him one guys.

If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

You had to assume Mayo wasn't going to be there from the get go. So the draft was always about the guard group(Westbrook, Gordon, Bayless, Augustin) and if we were going with a project why didn't we go with the higher risk project in the draft who would fill our greatest need? Gallinari doesn't possess any more potential vs 5-10 players picked below him. Better yet why didn't we just trade the pick for a ready now player and a lower pick and buy the Spurs pick?

Face it we've done the same thing the past 3yrs and that's show our hand and roll with it. It's disgusting and it shows no true brain trust leading us.

i think pretty much every prospect after Mayo possesses bust potential... then it's just a question of what your needs are & who you think is the best fit for your team... the Knicks obviously didn't deem Gordon or Bayless as PG prospects... time will tell if they were wrong or not... in the meantime let's see how Gallinari pans out for us before we jump on his case as being a horrible pick is what i'm saying... anyone we got at #6 coulda been a bust if u really think about it.

All I'm saying is if the fallback was a project why Gallinari?

I think Gallinari was the pick from jump and the gamble was see if we could steal a prized jewel from the Top 5. Their terrible status quo plan didn't work and they went back to their original man which was Gallinari.

i don't think u call Gallinari a project... he's pretty polished as a player judging from his scouting reports & the fact he's already proven himself on the international stage... he's just not a PG... the Knicks wanted Mayo or Westbrooke & felt the other guys just weren't in the same class apparently.

All the analysis tonight says we're going to have to wait on him. For heavens sake he's probably not better then Bargnani right now and he's almost considered a Bust. Gallinari is at least 2yrs away.

Play it safe go with D'Antonio Davis' guy. If we could get lucky and snatch Mayo sure but the Italian was first and foremost.

if he is 2 years away from contributing, doesn't that indicate they are sticking to the plan to rebuild?
