The skinny: The Grizzlies have also been talking trade with a number of teams. On Monday we reported that the Knicks were talking to Memphis about swapping David Lee and the expiring contract of Malik Rose for the No. 5 pick and Brian Cardinal's awful contract.

However, as of Wednesday night, those talks appeared dead. According to sources, Lee's representatives sent a message to the Grizzlies that Lee didn't want to play in Memphis and would refuse to sign a free agent deal with the Grizzlies next summer.

I lose a lot of respect for Lee with this. If he gets traded then thats business. When he is a free agent Im sure hes going to want all the money he can get, because thats business. Who is he to dictate where he goes? Hes no superstar. Hes not even a starter on a championship team. Give me a break man. I told you guys when this rumor first broke, that there is no way that it goes down, simply because nothing good ever happens to the Knicks. We never get a break. And now we give up any chance because some guy who can barely break the starting lineup wants to play superstar.

i read ur post... just don't get why it's a question of losing ur respect... i don't see this as him thinking he's some superstar player who thinks he can dictate where he wants to play... he enjoys playing in NY & doesn't wanna leave... it's not like he's holding the Knicks hostage here for an extra few bucks on his contract... he wants to stay in NY... if anything it makes me like him that much more.

This business does not work that way. You play for the team that pays you, and I believe he prefers playing in NY because that way he can get a better contract (and continue being overrated) than if playing for the Grizzlies.
That being said, can someone tell me why does David Lee or his agent have to tell memphis if they will resign with them next summer at this point? I just dont get it. The more you can hide your chances the better for you.

I got butterflies. If David Lee's reps gotta send send a "noooooooo!" letter to Memphis, then this deal is close enough to going down.

David Lee understands the rockstar status he'd be in when the Knicks finally start winning. He wants to be apart of it. He has no one to blame but Isiah.

In the meantime........David Lee can go.

I don't blame him - who the heck would want to live in Memphis.

Not for anything, but Daivid Lee, for all the good he does has this touch of prima donna to him that I am not liking at all.

I won't ever forget the "LB isn't positive enough" interview as a rookie under LB. Now shooting down a trade the way he is (if this report is correct). I am getting the idea Lee is going to be a straight pain in the ass to resign.

Something like this happens and it really pisses me off. The problem is now David Lee knows we wanted to trade him now we have to trade him.

Who the hell does Lee think he is? He should be grateful that anybody offers him millions to play basketball, who the hell is he to say he doesn't want to play for a specific team? Fucking primadona.

The more I think about this the more I get pissed. If Lee costs us a shot at Mayo/Beasley I hope he can handle the heat that may come his way.

That is the exact reason people are pissed at him. You won't be pissed if we miss out on a top 5 pick because David "Primadonna" Lee doesn't want to go to Memphis. How many times have you hears players faxing to a team they may get traded to that they don't want to be there? Devan George doesn't count because he had a no trade clause i his contract and he went through the proper channels of notifying the team. And even then ask George what happened in Dallas going from a 7th ish man to not even in the rotation and how he was treated there.

I hope Lee knows what he stepping into because whatever he costs us he better be ready for the labels that come his way.

That's the truth right there. If a team wants to trade you, it is almost always the best thing to go. Because if Lee stays here they are just going to hold the fact he blew this deal over his head.

Lee can't even walk for another 2 years. Don't let that a-hole dictate who he can be traded to. It only dimishes his trade value.

Remember last year when Lee was at the draft, laughing it up when his supposed buddy Frye was traded to Portland? Lee is a selfish ****sucker.

Who says he loves being a Knick and doesn't want to play anywhere else? It sounds like he just doesn't want to play for Memphis and is only too happy to screw the Knicks as they look to rebuild.

If Lee wants to play here, great. Accept a 5 yr, 6 mil extension. If he asks for 8-10 mil, and doesn't give the Knicks a discount, that tells me all I need to know.

Also if he views this just as a business thing, then that's how he is going to treat his negotiation-and he won't cut any breaks to anyone.

I don't believe that Memphis would walk away from the deal just cuz Lee pops off at this point. I think they should feel that they can convince him to resign once they get him there and he settles in. Lot's of players gripe about being traded and end up finding the new city isn't a bad place to be.

I really love the guy, but this is "biznis" and he has to go.

Lee doesn't fit D,Antoni system of being able to run and gun and knock down jumpers on the perimtter. Isiah isn't coaching anymore
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.
