GREENBURGH, N.Y. - Donnie Walsh's eyes widened when talk of tomorrow's NBA draft moved to talk of some of the surprising veteran names that have been mentioned in trade conversations.

"I'm not going to say who it is, but I heard it today, I was like, 'No, there's no way,'" Walsh said. When his scouts confirmed the star player in mention was being offered around, Walsh replied, "You're kidding me."

Walsh said he hadn't made any calls on it as of yet, but added, "When I leave here, I will check it out."

Many top names have been whispered recently, from Carmelo Anthony, Lamar Odom and Michael Redd to Baron Davis and T.J. Ford. The biggest name surfacing in trade scenarios is Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, but another available Heat player could be forward Shawn Marion, who just picked up his $17.8-million option for next season.

HOLY SH T...KNICKS HIRE D'ANTONI!!!

By Jack McCallum, SI.com

Mike D'Antoni has accepted the New York Knicks' lucrative job offer, ending a week-long battle with the Chicago Bulls, who also pursued the Phoenix Suns' coach, a league source told SI.com.

The Knicks reportedly gave D'Antoni a four-year deal worth about $24 million. He had two years and close to $9 million remaining on his contract with the Suns, whom he led to two Western Conference finals and an average of 58 victories in four full seasons.

The reason I think it's Melo although his name has been ran through the mud a little so far over the summer is because you'd have to think no team would ever trade a player of his caliber so soon while he's so young and a Superstar. Miami already denied earlier they aren't trading Wade it's not him. Mullin said he'd like Baron to play out his contract and earn another one. Brand has been endorsed by Dunleavy who said he expects both he and Maggette to be back next yr. Wizards said they intend to resign Arenas.

That leaves Melo, Marion, and Amare?

after he just got reassured by DEN that he wouldn't be traded this summer i have a hard time believing it's Melo... don't think it's D Wade either, his name has been rumored about for a week now.

could it be someone like Tony Parker, Deron Williams or *gasp* Chris Paul??? now those are some names worthy of some Donnie splooge.

No His Agent is still posturing
Some things apparently are better left unsaid.

The agent for Carmelo Anthony left Denver on Tuesday without meeting formally with members of the Nuggets front office.

Anthony had wanted the team to publicly state he will not be traded, but he now appears ready to simply move forward.

"He's focused on the Olympics right now," agent Calvin Andrews said. "That's it."

Andrews repeatedly has said Nuggets officials have assured him Anthony will not be traded.

"I always kind of knew," Andrews said. "It's just a matter of everybody else knowing."

Until their mgmt publicly says they aren't trading him and not through a back channel he's still in the mix to be had if they get the offer they want. Why do you think Melo and his Agent want a public stand? His agent actually requested a Monday meeting that never happened but instead he was phoned Sunday and in a business like manner was told his client wouldn't be traded(according to him) which if true translates to "STFU and don't tell us what to do." His agent then said he planned to meet with them on Monday which never happened and now they didn't even meet Tuesday. He's basically begged for a meeting through the media that hasn't transpired. Denver's mgmt isn't going for the agent strongarming BS. Until Warkentien or Karl say something publicly Melo is in play.

Melo's name has been out there for a while now tho... Donnie's reaction seems to suggest this name is someone who hasn't even been talked about... anyway it's all speculation... you bring up some good points tho, i'll give u that much... i have a feeling there won't be any huge deals coming our way tho... we're gonna end up w/Westbrooke or Galli, watch.

(crossing fingers for Mayo)
