Draft trade rumors abound

Tuesday, June 24, 2008 | Print Entry

Here are some quick hitters two days before the NBA draft from a number of NBA sources:

• A potential deal with Memphis and New York apparently has some legs. The Knicks, who have the No. 6 pick, would get the Grizzlies' No. 5 pick and give David Lee and other considerations to Memphis. New York would then select UCLA's Russell Westbrook and Italy's Danilo Gallinari with its No. 5 and No. 6 picks. If Memphis selects UCLA's Kevin Love, that is a strong indicator that the Grizzlies are keeping the pick.

Latest rumor out of Memphis is

Conley and 5

4

Dequan Cook and 2

also Wallace is on record responding to Ford's rumor...
I spoke to Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace today about this and other draft-related matters. Wallace, as is his policy, declined to respond to the specific trade rumors, but did respond strongly to Ford’s underlying premise.

“We’re under no pressure to reduce salary. That is not true,” Wallace said, before allowing that “we are looking at a number of proposals that could bring back a veteran player.”

The rumor is being driven from our end because we want to come out of the draft with hopes of grabbing Mayo.

If we can't get Mayo then I'd be thrilled with Westbrook and Alexander, absolutely thrilled.

Let's say the Knicks take Westbrook and Alexander. Westbrook is an elite athlete who can lock down defenders, which takes a bit of pressure off of Curry/Zbo in the near future and it adds a piece to the puzzle IF he can get a consistent shot. Alexander is a similar player to Lee with a much better midrange game and higher potential, AND he is a cheaper player over the course of the next 3-4 years.

There is also that chance that one of those 2 picks can be traded for someone like Mayo.

I think Chad Ford reported that Conley and the 5 for the #2 and cook rumour. I heard it on Mike and Mike(He didn't mention Cook was in the deal when he talked about it). It is also on his notes section of ESPN. I also quoted it in my thread on Draft Notes.

That quote is from yesterday. It also says specifically that they are not looking to shed salary. He doesn't say anything more.

I think you summed it perfectly Martin.

My dream is Mayo and Alexander. But I think I may be happy with Westbrook and Alexander.

In what way other than being white, is Alexander similar to Lee?

I would be happy with westbrook or bayless and alexander or love. Any combination of a guard and a foward.
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

Which means Ford is being led around like a Monkey and he's just throwing stuff out there. There's a reason he's known as Chad Fraud Katz is doing nothing but piggy backing to help promote Draft Day as has been mentioned. Of all the sport drafts this is the most hyped, most rumored, most media driven, most overrated draft days of all drafts.

Thats an awesome deal. Lets not forget that we will have to resign Lee very soon. So it saves us some money for now and give us a nice pick. Im also sold on this.
I would draft Lopez & Westbrook if Mayo is not available.

If our goal is to get two picks and they are in the Top 10, I want Augustin and Gordon.

There's no way I'm believing this rumor though.
