Of all the guys discussed drafting him would excite me the most.

He's really exploded with playing time (only played BB for 5 years)
He's a world class athlete and dedicated to getting stronger (gym rat). Might be the best athlete in the draft
He's a 2 way player
He's super intense and plays 10x harder than anyone on our roster. Great great energy
Played in a winning culture

Reminds me of Ron Artest @ St. Johns.. that kind of athlete, and intensity. And despite being a bit lacking in the "skills" department as he's played less than some of the others he's got very good BB instincts.

Fish, I've been talking about the Knicks going after Joe Alexander for months now and would gladly trade for another pick in the 6-8 range to select him.

I'd be happy if we took him also, and I don't think his skills are that bad either. His shot is better than what people give him credit for, and he seems to take good shots. He can also drive and cut through the lane, and b/c he's a good athlete and works hard, I'm pretty sure his defense will only get better. I still want Anthony Randolph, but Alexander and Westbrook are close behind.

We are not talking about him because he is too much a gamble for the 6th pick. We would talking about him more if we were picking 8-15.

As you mentioned, he isn't as skilled as Artest. From what I've seen, he struggles to create his own offense off the dribble, he's an inconsistant jump shooter, needs to imropve his range......Other than the intensity, I'm not so sure he's that much better of a prospect than Chandler. Chandler has proven to be a better defender in terms of blocking/changing shots from the SF position.

fishmike--bottom line Joe A HAS to be in the mix at six. he's good enough to warrant serious consideration. we have no idea what the heck the knicks are doing--look at all of these posts can you remember a draft where literally 15+ names have been discussed for one slot? this is very confusing

Absolutely. Sign me up. Shawn Marion type athlete/competitiveness with more offensive game (especially the mid game).

I think we are all in agreement over Joe Alexander.

Comparing him to Artest is spot on. Artest still can handle pretty well. He can get away with playing shooting guard. Joe Alexander can't really do that at all. Plus I never seen him actually attempt a shot from more than 15-18 out.

All in all he was one of my favorite guys to watch in college bb. He's a balls out player and always in attack mode. Strong and athletic. I would love to pick him.

Yeah I like teh Shawn Marion comparison instead of the Artest one. He has some pretty standout athleticism and he can step out a bit even though he's not making his own offense. The problem with evaluating Joe Alexander is the question of whether he was just a one hit wonder. He got a lot better in a very short time for a very short time in the grand scheme of things. Is he that guy that was so great at the end of the year or is he still a really raw talent? I think his athleticsm and desire warrants a more positive outlook though.

Really I'm looking at a top 7 for the Knicks that looks like this

1) Beasley
2) Rose
3) Mayo
4) Love
5) Bayless
6) Alexander
7) Arthur

I'm not hitting the emphasis on position need that hard b/c we really need work all around and there are isn't a really identity established yet that any of the players are a real key piece on.

Joe Alexander is the *type* of player that Walsh would draft if you look at his history of draft picks. Go look at his history and then look back at prospects 6-13 on most mocks.

I wouldnt make that trade, but if we did that I might waffle and take Darrell Arthur. I prefer Alexander by a little bit but I think Arthur is underrated.

unless we were getting the #11 pick as part of a larger deal involving JO & Marbs' expiring, i wouldn't be interested in that trade... i would not trade D Lee for Charlie V straight up under any circumstances.

Me too. Lee for V is a horrible deal. In a Knick era where the standard has been a brutal lack of professionalism, heart & effort & people want to trade Lee (the only guy we have that has those attributes) for Tim Thomas the sequel.

The hidden workout
Something we overlooked this weekend, but as we begin attempts to project what Donnie Walsh and Glen Grunwald have in mind for the draft, we should include every piece of evidence. The Knicks told the media after Thursday's workouts that there would be nothing through Monday. However...

According to our man Al Iannazzone of the Bergen Record, a strong Knicks contingent (Grunwald, Brendan Suhr, Mike D'Antoni, Dan D'Antoni and Phil Weber) was present at the Nets facility on Friday for a joint workout that included six players. Two of those players have already had workouts with the Knicks.

One is Mike Taylor, the Iowa State guard who played in the D-League this past season. He worked out for the Knicks on Thursday.

The other . . .

Joe Alexander, from West Virginia.

Probably just coincidence. The rest of the group included Roy Hibbert (Georgetown), Kentrell Gransberry (South Florida), Maureece Rice (George Washington) and Damjan Rudez (Europe).

I love his attitude and his work ethic (and obviously his athleticism). I'd be thrilled if the Knicks got him, although I don't think he's help right away and the Knicks need some major backcourt help. Maybe if that Memphis rumor is true...

joe was my suprise pick I mentioned on this forum months ago. I like joe a lot, I think he will be a fine player. I do have some questions regarding his game and where his skills will project on a professional level... Overall, I like the kid..

buck gm hammond on the radio today:

- "I think in our grouping you can probably put a young, small forward out of LSU, Anthony Randolph," Hammond said. "You could probably put another small forward like (junior) Joe Alexander from West Virginia. There is a chance someone could slip in this draft. Maybe one of the smalls slip. I'm not not sure who that would be. I don't want to put a name on that. Could a guy like Russell Westbrook from UCLA be available at that eighth pick? There's going to be a good player there we are going to feel good about on draft night."

I heard that interview, but he didn't want to mention the name of one of the smalls that could slip...
