It is unclear whether the Knicks plan to use their first round pick, sixth overall, in next week's NBA draft or trade for a solid player, the New York Post is reporting.

Either way, they would like to come away from draft night with a point guard for the future.

Toronto's T.J. Ford, Milwaukee's Mo Williams, Indiana's Jamaal Tinsley, and Portland's Jarrett Jack are on the block. Sources have indicated Raptors' General Manager Bryan Colangelo, who picks 17th and is looking to move up, has been most active.

UCLA's Russell Westbrook appears to have impressed Donnie Walsh the most out of the point guards who probably will be available at pick six.

Glad to see that Russell Westbrook seems to be the guy.

knicks are not talking to anybody right now. d'alsh are keeping a really tight lip.

anything you hear about the knicks is 100% pure speculation.

i think there's an equal chance the knicks move up, move down, trade the pick, or stay at 6. i don't think anybody knows except d'alsh.

I'm starting to think they should trade down. They can still get Westbrook a few spots down from 6.

I thought the promise is from the Bobcats at 9?

Don't believe anything you hear from teams from now until the draft.

i don't see how the raptors want zach.

i think the most palatable deal might be malik + 6 for tj + 17...

raptors cut salary and get a shot at drafting a starter.

I dunno man, I'm not sure it's worth to trade for TJ and move down 11 picks with only give up Malik. I'd rather go with Westbrook, TJ's future(and present) health scares me.

Agreed for a different reason

I wrote....
I agree on the deal that's sensical but I don't want to add salary to our 2010 cap while giving up the 6th pick. I'll do it if we are unloading salary. Plus I think it's not the best way to utilize Malik's expiring, not in case the Raps throw in a second rounder(future) in the deal.

A little more added but some of it is repetitive yet appears to be more believable as we get closer to the draft

RUSSELL WESTBROOKOn Knicks radar.
June 19, 2008 --

With the NBA Draft one week away, there's still a debate whether the Knicks will use the sixth pick or trade down. Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni, who had ultimate power when he coached Phoenix, actually traded his first-round pick with the Suns in the last four drafts, the latest being Rudy Fernandez last June. Knicks president Donnie Walsh said at Orlando's pre-draft camp the sixth pick is up for sale if they can get back a solid player in return because of the parity between four and 14.

There are indications the Knicks would like to come out of next Thursday night with a point guard-of-the-future, whether in the draft or via trade. Stephon Marbury is entering his final year of his contract, and there isn't another starting point guard on the roster.

Toronto's T.J. Ford, Milwaukee's Mo Williams, Indiana's Jamaal Tinsley, whom Walsh drafted, and Portland's Jarrett Jack are on the block. Sources have indicated Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo, who picks 17th and is looking to move up, has been most active.

If the Knicks stay at six, or even if they trade down a few notches, they will have their crack at a series of combo guards. Walsh is very open minded when it comes to evaluating combo guards, feeling they all can be converted to point guards.

Though O.J. Mayo probably will not be available at six, UCLA's Russell Westbrook, Jerryd Bayless and Eric Gordon could be sitting there. Indications are that Westbrook, though he's not a good shooter, impressed the Knicks. He's considered a solid defender who can run an offense, and his stock is rising.

D'Antoni may have tipped the Knicks' hand when he told Bayless during their interview, "I have all the tools, I just need an engine to run it."
If the Knicks pass on a point guard, 6-foot-10 small forwards, Danilo Gallinari and Anthony Randolph are being considered.

Today, the Knicks resume workouts, with freshman center DeAndre Jordan the best of the crew. The shot-blocking Jordan is likely a consideration if the Knicks fall out of the top 10. Also to work out are Hofstra guard Antoine Agudio and Massachusetts forward Dante Milligan, a New Yorker and familiar face at the Garden. Milligan used to visit the Knicks locker room often and attended many games, as his "Big Brother" was Knicks executive Dan Schoenberg. Their relationship received publicity when Milligan's brother, Alonzo, recently was killed in a drive-by shooting.

Why does Walsh feel there's parity between pick 4-14?

Assuming the point guard Walsh wants is Ford...

The Raps are over the cap a trade would have to involve multiple players in order to make a deal work if Zach is our bait with pick 6. If it's Curry then it doesn't.

We Want to move Randolph but he doesn't fit there so does Curry enter in?

Going with this info

We'd trade Zach & #6 for Ford, Filler, & 17 or Curry & 6 for Ford & 17?

Trading down for Ford isn't worth it to me. I'd only trade down to get rid of Zbo. Otherwise the Knicks should try to trade up to get Bayless or Mayo.

no need to anyway

More I think of it draft Alexander and trade for TJ Ford and call it a day. Malik's expiring and Nate should get you TJ Ford. Throw in cash if you have to, or Balkman. No Chander or Lee.

marbury + 6 for
mike miller + brian cardinal + jason collins + 5

saves them $17 mil.

Alexander a PF or SF? That's a lot at the 3 and 4 spot for the Knicks. Run run run until you drop.

tj ford will add at least 10 wins to the knicks alone.

#17 pick can be used to draft a pg or traded for a pg (like possibly lowry/jack/sergio to give the knicks a viable backup if tj gets hurt)

Memphis wants a spot higher than 6. They pretty much feel O.J. may not get past 4 yet alone 5. Not in case you can concoct a 3 way.

the problem is that memphis can not get up to 3 to take him b/c they're not trading gay or adding payroll.

From Hoopsworld.... More and More reporting we're shopping the can't pass up 6th pick and that we want a Vet.
The Knicks Are Talking Trades: The Knicks are still debating internally what to do with the draft – there is rampant speculation that the Knicks may have made the "promise" to Danilo Gallinari, although sources in Phoenix have said from the beginning that Mike D'Antoni is not as impressed with Danilo as everyone believes he is. Russell Westbrook looks like the smart pick for the Knicks, but there is continued belief that adding another young player may not be the smartest move as the Knicks try to improve. If the Knicks could find a taker involving the #6 pick yielding a veteran type guard, the Knicks seem more open to that than selecting a player. TJ Ford's name has been mentioned more than a few times to the Knicks and don't rule out the Sonics as a trade partner either. The Knicks could be a real player in the hours prior to the draft; they seem most likely to trade their pick for a veteran player than anyone in the top of the draft.

No doubt about it as I said since D'Antonio Davis' hiring we're ALL-IN for the playoffs next yr.
