new gm, new coach. walsh has stated that he would like to be a player in free agency in 3 years. the roster needs to be overhauled and that will take time. knicks have their own #1 in 2008 (#6 pick). they have their own #1 in 2009. they have no first round pick in 2010. unless moves are made to cut salary, the earliest the team can be way under the cap is the summer of 2011. so where do you think this team should be entering the 2011/2012 season? 1 - fringe playoff team (think golden state) 2 - perennial playoff team but not a true contender (think utah/wizards) 3 - championship contender (think detroit/boston/lakers/spurs) 4 - other (specify)
fringe playoff team
perennial playoff team

Perennial playoff team. I think it's hard to say we'll be a championship contender as of right now when we don't have a franchise player on our roster.

Number 3 end of story no debating. If this team doesn't win at least 45 games this season I will consider it a failure. Donnie Walsh and D'Antoni should not have been hired if all you are planning on doing is waiting for good fortune to swing your way. The only reason they should have been hired was because they are going to aggressively seek to turn this team in a competitive playoff team THIS SEASON. Not 3 years down the road or whenver but right now.

I predict: Fire, brimstone, floods, cataclysmic storms. The end of days.

DJ, no offense. But I don't even know what to expect from myself in 6 months. How can I have any idea where a team over which I exert no control and have no inner knowledge of will be?

If you think what we have now, is capable of putting up with 45 wins, with even red aurback and Jerry West, then I think you're delusional. This team is a project and even Walsh knows it. Thank Isiah for that, and no offense, but thank Isiah again, for making one of the most assinine trades ever, by bringing in Zach Randolph.

That was the whole point of hiring Walsh and D'Antoni to turn this team around RIGHT NOW. If winning wasn't the goal then the Knicks might as well hired some moron off a Knick's message board .

I don't understand why the Knicks couldn't have gotten the best coach out there right now, so that he himself can help Donnie evaluate the team and when it comes time to start winning, the coach is already cemented in place.

Please clarify this statement because really are we that messed up as fans that we don't want to see winning this season? The time to evaluate the team is now and pre-season.

Bitty our team blows.. we aren't ready to win yet. Why not have a coach here who can weed out the **** players, pump up the value of the others and also work with Donnie on getting good players in here? That way when all the **** players are gone and we got some players who worth a damn in here, the coach will already have been here and cemented himself as the coach of this franchise. Why is that such a big deal?

I repeat that is what the months of April, May, June, July, August, Sept, and Oct. The regular season is for playing basketball to WIN of course not to win the lottery sweep stakes.

Bitty if your team sucks, you're not going to win and right now our team sucks, so we're not going to win.

DID YOU SEE V...C...?

the start of the 2011/2012 season is 3 full seasons, 4 full offseasons, 4 trade deadlines and 4 drafts away.

i ask you all, is that enough time for a gm to build a contender?

Playing basketball to WIN is not the same as WIN.
It will be nice to see our team to do first but unfortunately they cannot do second.
No offense - they just too bad of a group and as individuals to win in NBA.
I think we will also clean up the fan base from people who are watching bbal just for the pleasure to win all the time.
Time for these guys to switch to teams who are ready to win most of the games NOW. Knicks will not give them any satisfaction for a long, long time.

If thats the attitude of the management, coaches, and players then they all might as well just stay in bed the entire season and I mean that in the literal sense. What happened to changing the culture? Winning changes all of that, the bad press, in player fighting, the laughing stock status, bad trade values, and you become infintely more attractive to free-agents.

I expect a better season than last year, with a lot of turmoil as the usual suspects fight with D'Antoni over substituion patters and punishments
I just hope that people will like me

Assuming D'Antonio is still coaching and Randolph is held onto until his contract expires, I predict a mediocre team (40-43 wins) that doesn't play much defense but they sure do shoot quickly.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

I think you guys give Randolph entirely too much credit. D'Antoni is either going to find a way to maximize Zach as a player and make him apart of the system or they are going to move him.

That's more than enough time. I'm looking for it to be already set before 2011.....like in the playoffs this season and steady building on that till the championship is won. If they do it this way I think the Knicks will be a serious contender in 2011.

Have we forgotten that the last time the Knicks won a playoff game was 2001 thats 10 years. I won't claim to speak for anyone else but thats too ****ing long and absolute disgrace.
