Raptors Labeling Calderon As 'Untouchable'?
May 28, 2008 - 4:49 pm
The Oregonian -
A report in the northwest indicates that Toronto executive Bryan Colangelo has placed the 'untouchable' tag on point guard Jose Calderon, according to The Oregonian.

The Raptors appear content in trying to deal T.J. Ford and his contract this summer, with a host of teams interested in the speedy, but injury-prone, passer.

The report was initially heard on 'Wheels After Work', a radio show with Brian Wheeler, the voice of the Blazers.

Drum up the T.J. trades again he's a goner. I wonder if Miami works a deal out with Toronto gets a third team involved.

Where...

Toronto(owns pick 17) gets #2(Rose), Wilcox

Seattle(owns picks 4 and 24) gets T.J., Haslem, and 17th pick....Pair T.J. with frat brother Durant

Miami(owns pick 2) get's pick 4(Mayo), 24, and Donyell Marshall

In this scenario Toronto would also have to give Seattle a future first round pick.

TJ & Graham for Curry & Mardy, otherwise pass.

we don't need another contract that runs past 2010 on the books unless we unload one of our own, especially 1 coming off a neck injury last season... this would give us a bit of cap relief & gives TOR a C to pair up w/Bosh.

From ESPN:Ford is the other guy generating some buzz. The Raptors have a logjam at the point and Jose Calderon is heading into restricted free agency. A team source said the Raptors would definitely match any offer for Calderon.

However, there was some tension on the Raptors between Calderon and Ford. If the Raptors are dead-set on bringing back Calderon … could Ford be the guy on the move?

Colangelo declined to elaborate, saying he likes having both point guards … but a source close to the situation said the Raptors are open to moving Ford and he's generated interest from several teams.

Ford, when healthy, has been excellent for the Raptors, but there are concerns about his spinal condition. A source told Insider on Tuesday evening that Ford's health hasn't been a major issue. He's essentially as healthy today as he was when he was drafted. While his condition does pose a real risk to his long-term health, his contract is fully insured -- protecting a team that trades for him from taking a huge financial hit if he were to go down.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

I wonder if they would take on an unmotivated health risk in exchange for an overzealous one?

tj ford is awesome. potential all star breakout within the next 2 years (if he stays healthy )

if toronto ends up with the #2 pick, then colangelo is the greatest gm of all time. i don't see it happening.

but i think that's one of the more interesting moves this summer...who does colangelo get for tj?

If I'm Colangelo I think Big with a T.J. trade and include the pick if neccesary. I think the trade scenario I came up with is doable.

I think that's one of the fairest ones I've seen player for player but it doesn't address the Raps need for a big.

bigs are hard to get. colangelo will also move ap and rasho's expiring this year so i'm curious to see what he gets for it...

i wouldn't even be mad getting a guy like haslem/wilcox for tj (like you suggested) and shifting bosh to a 5 and transform the team into a suns/golden state type team.

I don't think TJ is involved in another big trade because of his back injury. If he is moved he will be moved for another player who is flawed in some way (i.e. contract, injury, legal problems, extreme character issues).

Colangelo would keep before he'd do such a thing and regroup him in other packages more attractive. Toronto having the 17th pick can make matters easier when trading T.J. I don't think he gets traded in a 1:1.

Once again another good trade on paper but I think Colangelo will stay completely away from any injury risks and possible character issue players. If J.R. was coupled with say a solid vet in his prime who offers front court help I could possibly see a deal getting done. But Nene is recently coming off Cancer in his Balls I don't see anyone touching him for a while.

I can see Colangleo going after Jermaine O'neal.

a ford for crawford deal works. (don't think you have to include all the other players, knicks would just have to add some cash).

but i just don't see any gm in this division (thorn, walsh, colangelo, ainge, stefanski) doing business with each other.
