Rumors flying that Mullin wants to unload the contract so he can lock up Biedrins, Ellis etc. He has 2 years remaining, so it doesn't get in the way of leBron. Your thoughts about a deal like this:

Marbury (they may feel like he can give them 1 good year, but more importantly, he saves them 1 year contractually vs. Baron) + # 6 pick

for

Baron + # 14 pick

Then take McGee or even Gallinari at 14. Why would Gallinari drop? He could be less than available for all teams for workouts except the Knicks or even suggest he'll only excercise his "out" clause if the Knicks take him.

How many years are on Baron's contract? How much is he owed?

2 years at 16mm per...couple of mil less than Marbury, but easily matched with filler

so he'd come off for '10 season? not the worst deal considering he'd be perfect as a running point guard who can jack up threes.

Baron is one of the best players in the entire NBA and we are going to get him for a straight salary dump i don't really see that happening. And I would look to take Batum from France if we got the 14th pick.

There are teams out there in serious need of a good pg that would give up talent, but i guess the deal itself isn't terrible considering they get another draft pick

There are reports from the Bay area that Mullin is very concerned about signing Ellis & Biedrins & that Baron's contract might stand in the way. Mullin may determine that 16mm saved (towards Ellis, Biedrins) plus maybe landing Mayo or Gordon or whatever makes this work.

I think the exact opposite- we're saving them money and giving up pick 6?

All adding him to our roster does is delay rebuilding- it puts us back in the back of the lottery next year, and doesn't solve the main problem of adding an all star/super star to our roster. Maybe we squeak into the play offs with him - great, first round elimination and a mid round selection.

We need to dump anyone we can that can clear salary and possibly get us picks back.

Crawford is a great player- but we should ship him out if we can add a first rounder or so, young talent & shorter contract.

Then, I hate to say, lets see what Nate & Collins can do in terms of running the show. If you need to get an NBDL or short term free agent PG - do that.

But by all means, lets try hard next year, but lets do a better job at being in the lottery.

If they would do this Baron deal I would sign off on it......the difference between the #6 and #14 is not much. Eric gordon, jordan and some other guys that the Knicks won't take will go between here.....the Knicks still will have a shot at Javale, joel, dj augustine, cdr, etc.....the talent pool doesn't drop off.

Baron doesn't kill 2010. He comes of the books just in time. Maybe the Warriors take back a group of contracts instead of Marbs....

Anyway, baron is a superstar in this league and his yoyo dribbling ways will be perfect in d'antoni's system. He's not a ***** like Marbs and he actually cares about his nba legacy. I'm quite sure he knows he would become immortal if he became part of a big ny turn around so he would come here ready to play.

Knicks still have the same issues with zeddy and the small fwd but hopefully that can be addressed also if this deal were to actually have legs and go down.

baron can opt out this summer.

probably can't deal for him unless you give him an extension.

Who has money to sign him? Philly? Sign and trade for andre miller? Maybe....golden state would have to be down with that. They could use andre miller in a deal to get a resigned elton brand if they got baron. The clips need a point and miller is a decent one.

Does the clipps have cap room? Who has cap room besides philly?

They should be able to get that trade done as an even swap. I think swapping picks or, God forbid, giving away the #6 pick would be an Isiah dropping his pants and bending over trade.

Davis was benched in their last playoff game by Don Nelson and it can't be a happy situation. You're giving them a player who could excel for 1 year in their system as a pending free agent, a ton of salary cap space to re-sign their important pieces and they're getting rid of a headache and controversy that could hurt their team all next year. I think that's enough and trading picks would be overkill.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Also note that Mullin & Walsh have a history of dealing with each other.

I agree that we shouldn't need to swap picks. Marbs for Davis - take it or leave it.

The most overrated? I don't think they rate him high enough. Nobody talks about Baron unless he is making an awesome play. He's a good point guard. Probably best in the east especially with D'antoni runnin things.

This is a rebuild.......2010 won't be effected by Baron. Knicks could still be a player in Redd......maybe Mike Miller. Why not? Who's to say Lebron is coming? Its good to be a player in that sweepstakes but if we don't get Lebron the same way we didn't get Rose or Beasley.......we look like *******s. Wasting years for someone to save us.

A team with possibly Baron, redd, craw, lee and maybe curry should compete. Redd had a legit beef with the Bucks cuz he was their best option. Bogut hasn't emerged and Yi was somewhat of a bust.......evidence for that is Charlies minutes. They aren't trying to win.....they want faces. They want certain guys to sucseed. No way you phase out Redd to force Bogut to be something he probably will never be.

Anyway, with Baron, craw, redd and lee.....the Knicks again don't play old Knick defense but they should be able to compete. Baron takes the rock out of Craws hands and then you allow him to play within an offense instead of being the offense. Redd is a target also. That's something the Knicks never have had. David Lee would be free to just do his thing.....Curry would be the primary post option but you can't expect him to be shaq so you gotta take him out of that role and make him a trailer and a pick man. Basically a 4th option.

This could work.

Btw talking about Matt Caroll @ this point is nuts. What is he gonna do? Relegate Craw to the bench only for that idea to be shelved by december because he sucks? He doesn't play the 3 so that conversation is over.

My problem with this deal is the logic that people plan to let Baron walk when his contract is up. If that's the plan, why are we getting a worse draft pick and eating a larger salary?

As for Baron, I agree with TMS. Definitely most overrated in the NBA.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

Baron easily won 7-8 games for G.S., this year, by HIMSELF.

Baron and Nelson are not getting along. Mullin was kid when he played for Nelson and I am sure he has enormous respect for him. He might do this for that reason alone. Nelson is a funny guy. He really put Mullin in a tough spot when he sat Baron in that last game.
