NBA Comparison: Lamar Odom/Tayshaun Prince

(you had me at Lamar Odom/Tayshaun Prince)

Strengths: Long, lanky forward with a great deal of upside ... His length and agility makes him very unique playing on the wing ... Highly versatile. He has a vast array of offensive abilities, especially impressive considering his age: Randolph has a tremendous handle and gets to the basket extremely well off the bounce ... A smooth athlete with great foot speed ... Runs the floor like a deer and has amazing fluidity ...

... Causes mayhem crashing the glass, often following teammates shots with highlight one handed finishes ... Also shows solid vision and playmaking ability for teammates ... Has a lot of defensive potential. Blocks a ton of shots (2.3 pg) for a wing player due to his length, timing and explosiveness ... Shows good promise as a free throw shooter (70%), hard work and repetition should help him increase it ...

Weaknesses: A high risk, high reward type pick at this stage of his career. He's got a chance to be special, but in turn a higher than average chance of being a bust as well ... Still very skinny, and may always be on the skinny side ala Tayshaun Prince (big deal, it is nothing a few Ray's Pizza's can't correct)

Better than Gallinari?

Play The 6'8 Mayor at two guard with Lee at center and let my people run.

Piece of cake.

sounds interesting, especially the part about his defensive potential... i think there's some good options for us at the #6 pick... all is not lost... yet.

I like this pick too. I think this guy just fits the D'Antoni system.

Two Year Plan

TMS - if D'Antoni wants to run, and if there isn't a point guard available via the draft who could be trusted to run the show, the Knicks will go big... and fluid.

Expect an unexpected addition to receive long look at the leadership guard in training camp, just for kicks and giggles. What happens next?

The Knicks draft Stephen Curry in 2009.

You heard it here first.

i agree... i think if the PG that Walsh wants isn't available he's going to go w/the most versatile swing player he can find that fits in D'Antoni's system.

If in fact "In Donnie We Trust" is the new mantra, expect the blueprint being proofed at 2 Penn Plaza to have at least a two-year window.

It could go something like this without Donnie breaking a sweat:

Stephen Curry
Wilson Chandler
Anthony Randolph
Other forward - Clone of Dave DeBusschere to be announced
Center - Clone of Rasheed Wallace (without the crazy of course) to be announced

If it was me I would trade Lee for a high enough pick to take Mcgee and Randolph--where the F does anyone think this team is going that fast anyway? Rebuild the entire frontline with guys who can run with skills and length and next year we can find a guard or two in the draft.

I agree with this. The Knicks can always get a guard in a trade also.

Randolph is recognized as much more than a runner and gunner, as he is praised for having a very reliable mid-range game and can score with his back to the basket. The southpaw has also shown his strength on the boards and can play either the three or four position, providing a potential mismatch whenever he takes the floor.

One of the youngest players in the nation in the competitive SEC, Randolph averaged 15.6 points, 8.5 boards, 1.1 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. He finished in double figures in 27 games and recorded nine double-doubles. He saved his best for conference play, averaging over 16 points and nine rebounds. Randolph finished with 20-plus points on nine occasions, and was a four-time SEC Freshman of the Week.

His biggest game of the season came against Kentucky, as he recorded 24 points and 14 rebounds in addition to four steals and one blocked shot. Randolph also impressed in an 80-74 win over Alabama, notching 29 points and blocking five shots.

That defensive performance vs. the Crimson Tide was hardly a rarity for the Tigers freshman. He is widely regarded as a dynamic defensive presence in the low post and an expert shot-blocker -- evidenced by his 2.3 rejections a game. He recorded five or more blocks on three occasions, maxing out at six swats in his first collegiate game against Southeastern Louisiana. Randolph finished the season with 70 blocks and 35 steals.

Despite his statistics in the college ranks, scouts express concern that Randolph, who doesn't turn 19 until July, is still among the rawest prospects in the draft. He would need to significantly bulk up to produce similar numbers in the NBA, and his critics say he must show a greater commitment to solid basketball fundamentals. Nevertheless, most scouts and scouting services anticipate he will be able to pick up the mental side of the game with time, especially under the correct NBA tutelage.

Given what he has already done at a young age, scouts say Randolph has as great an upside as any of this year's draft-eligible prospects. With a skill set that reminds some of NBA star Shawn Marion, Randolph might end up being an exciting pro for years to come.

let the campaigning begin for the fashionable pick du jour Danilo Gallinari

"The top international player, 6-9 Danilo Gallinari, could move into the top six. Gallinari has point-guard skills and has drawn comparisons to one of D'Antoni's favorite players from the Phoenix Suns, small forward Boris Diaw. The fact that D'Antoni played and coached in Italy could also factor into the Knicks' decision."

Fun Fact

D'Antoni, who played and coached in Italy, roomed with Gallinari's father, Victorio, for two seasons in Milan.

No, I don't want this guy. Not a big scorer, way too many turnovers (we already have a turnover prom Zbo) and only brings 2.3 blocks a game to the draft. This is not a big seller, so don't buy.
I'll never trust this' team again.

Sounded good until he threw Lee in there. Forget it!

4949 - way too many turnovers?

where do you make this assessment? I understand in most cases we are limited to distilling second-hand information on many players but, have you ever watched Anthony Randolph play?

If not, how can you diss his skill set?

I'll explore all the options," Walsh said. "You can take it or you can trade it. You got to look what you can get. It's an asset. It's a good asset."

Prez - is that a smokescreen for some behind-the-scenes maneuvering - or do you think Donnie goes big or small in the draft?

Anji - did I mention that you rock?

That left-handed j reminded me of Dick Barnett. I'd put that mofo at the two and call it a very good draft day. D'Antoni could revolutionize the position with a versatile 6'10 demon who can dramatically change the Knicks spacing (the baseline move was spicy) with his confident handle, hops and ability to get to the rack.

So it is written, so shall it be done.
