They both spent 1 year in college so who was the better college player?

I never watched him but I heard marbury was better in every aspect.

Your thoughts?

Doesn't really matter. Marbury was an extremely talented basketball player who's main problem is his head/attitude.

Exactly; if someone told me a player was as talented in college as Marbury, I'd be extremely impressed. Marbury could have been a hall-of-fame NBA player with his skill set.

I saw Ducan and Marbury square off in the ACC tournament final. Saw all games leading up to it also.

Steph was a ball hog and yelling at his players.

Wake Forest was the Champion and Tim was the MVP.

I don't remember but was he a ball hog in Minny with Garnett?

Tim Duncan is the last college player that I remember watching and thinking this guy is going to turn a franchise around.

Stephon was technically better but Derrick played within a winning system and had 2 players who were more experienced on the team. Stephon's game was based on greed in Georgia Tech, Minnesota (where Garnett detested him), New Jersey, Phoenix (where Amare hated him and Joe Johnson left because of him), and finally in NY.

Stephon is the point guard Derrick Coleman. All the talent in the world but greed destroyed their game.

OMG I used to be a diehard Marbury fan. There is no comparison. Marbury was a way better college player. KG only detested him because Marbury has a huge ego and left a potential great situation in Minnesota. Amare doesn't hate Marbury and Joe Johnson didnt not leave the Suns because of Marbury, he obviously played on the Suns with Steve Nash after Marbury.

Unfortunately for Steph he never met a coach or mentor who was able to tell him right in his face:
"No matter how talented you are as a team player and person you suck and because of this you will never be great and will never achieve anything in NBA and in your live..."
Instead Steph was used by owners, media, agents, and sponsors to get big money on him... Players who knew who he really is where send packing and coaches fired.
Now he is done as the money cow; and will be thrown away like used peace of scrap.
He is a walking example for young kids how not to waste their life and sport carrier to the benefits of the crooks who are running the show in pro sports.

Tim was 16 or 17 when he hit the Wake Forest Campus and really grew up on the small Campus. This guy really was about fundamentals cuz he was not an athletic freak, and still is not.

He is very boring, but a great guy and a true professional.

Im so glad he did not end up on the Celtics!

His loyalty to the franchise is really incredible. He could have played in orlando where florida has not state income tax, and been closer to his Virgin Island home. He stayed with the Spurs and has led them to be the best team in the last 10 years. Good story.

Tim is the guy who defined the world around him and Steph is just twisted in the wind.

I've had the mindset that as far as talent goes this is who Rose' game resembles most. It's not a bad thing when doing the comparison from a talent perspective but as for me personally I don't want a scoring dominant point guard who's really an undersized 2 guard in a point guard's body. I'll pass and take my chances on other lottery talent.

Like I said switch Mayo and Rose on each other's team and we'd be talking about Mayo and Rose would be a very distant 4rth or 5th.

Marbs was better than Derrick Rose in college. Marbs is so washed up now that its easy to forget how good he was. Still even in college, it wasn't about the team. It was about Marbury. Marbury was the best player on the court since he was playing in bitty leagues @ 5-6. It's been that way all his career till Garnett came into his life, and he ran from that cuz he still thought he was the man. He never played with anyone else that was clearly better....not even amare, Marion, or joe johnson.....cuz in amare and joe's case, they were both still trying to figure out the nba game and how good they could be.

Now the power and explosion Marbs used to have is gone, but his attitude hasn't changed.

Rant over.

Truthfully, how many pure pgs are there in the league anyway? The league is dominated by scring pg's: Baron Davis, Tony Parker, Marbury, Deron Williams, Bibby, Iverson, Tinsley, Billups, Arenas, Nelson, Mo Williams and even everyone favorite Chirs Paul is a scorer. Its the way of the league right now.

Look I like some of those players listed because they came from a different generation and at a time where scoring was hard to come by in the league they managed to pick up this aspect of the game and bring us to where we're at now. Paul and Williams although they can score are orchestrators/passers first, so is Billups he looks to run offense before going for his own. Arenas isn't really a point guard and neither is Iverson you can't look at designated positions and then label a player, you have to look at how they play the game.

I'm speaking as far as the Knicks are concerned and what we've witnessed the past few yrs and our current situation. We need a table setter(D'Antoni/Nash or as close as we can get) or some interior defenders not another Marbury again.

Correction Deron Williams is not a scoring point guard he's pure bred point guard through and through

Marbury was once a great player ... then came 'Starbury'
