Yeah, why would a fastbreaking team want the best outlet passer since Unseld?
Agreed- Kevin Love has to be high on this list. He has all the skills D'Antoni would want in a big man. Great outlet passer, is willing to run, plays hard the entire time he's out there, can shoot from the perimeter, unselfish. I think Love would certainly be a target.
His utter lack of athleticism is a big problem, its not 1985 anymore. Do you have enough faith that he will be able to compensate enough to justify selecting him at such a high slot?
His whiteness has comically exaggerated his lack of athleticsm in the eyes of many. He doesn't have the lateral quickness and strength to make him be tremendously effective in the halfcourt, slow down set, but Love knows how to play uptempo in a more free flowing offense. I think there are teams where he'd be a disaster, and untill we hired Mike D, I wasn't sure of whether I wanted to draft him. But When D'Antoni came back over to the states he was wowed by the fact that they had 6'9, 6'10" players who played the game with the basketball IQ of a PG- fundamentally sound. Love fits the bill of the kind of player D'Antoni was impressed by in Europe. In a faster pace game, Love in the high post could end up being a tremendous fit, especially if he's joined by other athletic finishers up front (a la Lee, Balkman). He's an efficient scorer, unselfish, will move the ball and keep the pace flowing freely.
