Maybe this is a good omen? Hopefully we have a new day in NY????

The Bulls were ready to talk contract with Mike D'Antoni but never got a chance.

So said general manager John Paxson after D'Antoni agreed Saturday to become the New York Knicks' head coach.

Paxson, who first interviewed D'Antoni a week ago, expressed surprise that D'Antoni wouldn't wait to meet a second time with Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf before accepting a reported four-year, $24 million contract from the Knicks.

''I felt the meeting [last Sunday] went very well and felt we connected on many things philosophically,'' Paxson said. ''On Tuesday, Jerry and I met. Because of our strong interest, Jerry was eager to meet with Mike personally, which happened Friday.''

Reinsdorf hoped to meet again Saturday, Paxson said.

''[On Saturday] morning, Jerry and I spoke and agreed that Mike was a good fit,'' Paxson said. ''I placed a call to his agent [Warren LeGarie]. Jerry wanted to meet with Mike again and talk about a deal. Unfortunately, we were never given an opportunity to make an offer of any kind, which is the most disappointing thing.

''I thought it would have been fair to listen to what we had to say, but at the end of the day, we simply weren't given the opportunity to do so. I now will continue to search for the proper fit for our current roster.''

We certainly have a brand new day in NY and I love seeing the bulls dig for dirt, but realistically, they are just one star away from competing. They have the resources and chicago is constantly promoting itself, using NY as it's yard stick to make that point. They are even building themselves a little Times Square in the downtown area, setting up their news stations as outdoor news stations like what we have. This is real and one day, someone is going to take them up on it. chicagoans believe that if they have a taller building then NY, are making attempts to beat us out in having the most in 'institutions', then they will be viewed as the best city in the world. Corny as hell, but that's what they think. They are about to outdo MoMa's status as the best. Not to mention, one of their own just might make president of the U.S. They are even making preparations, in anticipation for the Olympics there, hoping to be picked. They've started to build what is being called the 'Spiral Tower' a 2,000 foot tall spiral shaped apartment building.

Even Donald Trump is on the band wagon. His tower is just about finished and there are talks that there are plans for a building, a building that they are calling 'The Illinois', an idea that was conceived back in the 50's, by Frank Lloyd Wright, that will reach a mile high, eclipsing all tower heights all over the world. The entire transit system there is getting a total face lift. chicago takes great pride in their teams representing their city. jordan is the one who put chicago on that map as a world city. This is how they think there and it seems to be working.

The ironic thing about chicago though is, I found out that they went from a population of about 3,300,000 down to 2,800,000 over that last 15 years. They build hoping people will come, but they ain't coming. Many businesses are forced to charge NY prices, and people seem to be moving out. They have the largest empty commercial space of any city in this country and they keep building.

That's why we got to beat them to the punch in two more years. Expect them to go after LeBron also, when the time comes. We been beating them in so many ways and have to continue that trend well into the 21st century. It's more than just sports for them. The whole thing is corny as hell, but it's all true. If you even go there and spend some time, you'd see what I was talking about.
I'll never trust this' team again.

It's interesting you'd say that. I don't really know how much influence the NBA has in making this happen but given Stern's comments about our franchise over the spring....combined with Dolan being quoted recently as saying that he told Stern he would do ANYTHING he could to fix the team....it certainly sounds like the NBA pushed for this and helped make some things happen. I don't feel in any illegal sense, like a rigged lotto sense, but the NBA certainly had a hand in making this all happen.

Where it will lead is unknown - and if it leads somewhere good the time frame is unknown - but it's still a change of direction and two respected basketball minds have been finally brought in. Let's hope they are up to the task.

It'd also be nice if Stern completes this supposed trifecta and gives us a little boost in the lotto. Hey, even up to 3rd would be nice....

Personally I am good with D'antoni coming here - Jackson has proven nothing as a coach assistant or otherwise. I am not a fan of Avery J - he even lost the team in Dallas so why would we want to bring him here where the problems are magnified? D'antoni is not the perfect solution but he is a new direction and now Walsh needs to make some trades to switch up the roster.

This is a new direction, hopefully they will follow through and fix the roster now.

In my opinion we got the fat chick with the pretty bow in her hair who has alot of pretty friends. I think Chicago will do much better than the Knicks with a hire of either Avery or Mark.

Twenty minute practices, the roster, no defense coached, no franchise player in his pocket, no franchise player, his offense with our players, the continued philosophy of the owner and new president to go for big names that don't fit, the apparent ignoring of the need to rebuild. Any player can be taught defense and can improve in that area. Speed, superior athleticism and inteligence are not things that can be taught. In addition, Walsh has put himself in a position where some of his player do not fit at all. If he is going to be the superior negotiator that he is supposed to be, he put himself at a tremendous disadvantage by needing to get rid of guys who have talent but whose value is at an all time low. Walsh/Dolan blew it. I also think until something other than the status quo for the past 4.5 years happens every decision should be considered heavily Dolan influenced.

This twenty minute practice thing is being blown out of proportion. Grant Hill is quoted as saying 'Mike does whats best for the players.' Phoenix was one of the oldest teams in the league and many of them were nursing injuries (Hill, Shaq). So it was no need to over work them. Besides, that was a veteran team that knew what D'Antoni wanted and his so-called short practices lead to another 50+ win season.

Your kidding yourself if you think D'Antoni is going to come here and have 20 minutes practices as he tries to install his system, and closely monitor players to see who fits and who doesn't. There are no winners or professional veterans here (ala Nash, Hill, Shaq) so I imagine D'Antoni realizes this team of losers need more baby sitting.

When the smoke screen clears, it'll become painfully obvious that the Bulls screwed us again.

And how we let Phoenix off the hook allowing them to pocket $8.5mil and hire probably a more competent coach.

That's hilarious! D'Antoni made the playoffs again' and not one mention of how isiah didn't even make a dent. You guys really should rethink your priorities. Jealousy is contagious.

Maybe D'Antonio will pull a Bill Belichick and resign as the HC of the NYK and go back to the Bulls with his tail between his legs.
