Personally I just have to wait and see. I'm not really going to assume we're going to be good or bad or when.
All I will say is that this roster is in bad shape and DAntoni can't make this roster as is work - for - nobody can.
Therefore in order for it to work we need changes. We don't have the most desirable team so changes might take some time.
In that I just don't know how it's going to work out in the end. I'd speculate on the win-now approach of which I made that one thread based on such a speculation. I just don't think you can do that with this core.
If they opt to build a new team for DAntoni that again will take time and there's never a guarantee you will get all the right pieces.
Regardless, as I welcomed Walsh aboard and am willing to give him time to prove he can do the job - I'm doing the same for DAntoni.
Wouldn't have been my choice, but I'm not in charge, and I am still a Knick fan, so I support the move just by virtue of it being a change of pace - and hope the best comes of it.
Great thing about this hire is that you know the roster will get the much needed overhaul. The Knicks have very few players that can adapt to any kind of system. Now we know that with the current roster as it is, will be broken apart maybe a couple of pieces will remain but majority will be moved.
Another positive about this move is that no one can deny that an identity has been established just by the hiring of D'Antoni. Wether it is offense or defense. I like to think of the hiring as a move toward offense with decent defense. To me the most important stat is the point differential stat between total offense and defense and D'Antoni's teams always did well in this stat. This year Suns were +5.3, Lakers were + 7 and Boston was +10. This is the most important stat.
This is a good hiring and a step in the right direction for a organization that has been with out direction.
