There's been a lot of talk on this and rightly so. It's a big step for this franchise. So I thought it would be useful to get a feeling on how the group as a whole feels about the hire.
D'Antoni is the best choice.
D'Antoni is a good choice, but I would have preferred someone else.
D'Antoni is a bad choice, but not the worst.
D'Antoni is the very worst choice for the job.
I'm not sure yet. I want to see how things develop.
It doesn't really matter who we hire to coach the Knicks.

I'm very happy with the choice of D'Antoni.

D'Antoni is a bad choice, but not the worst(we could have re-hired Isiah or Don Chaney).

While the coach I liked most was Rick Carlisle, D'Antoni's availability changed the landscape greatly. He clearly was the one of the 2-3 best, if not the best coach on the market. He was the coach with best track record in a rebuild situation. And the coach with the most clear philosophy. Excellent hire.

My first choice was Thibodeau. But I think we got a very good one.

If we get Derrick Rose, and make a good trade for Randloph, this could be a very good coach for the team.

We have to see what happens. D'Antoni is a solid choice, but it seems to be a choice that ignores everything wrong with the current roster. If Donnie can make some WHOLESALE changes over the summer, it could work. Obviously, getting Derrick Rose will help the rebuilding process, if we get lucky.

This roster fits D'Antoni about as much as it fits any other coach. That we need a wholsale rebuild is obvious in just about any situation. That D'Antoni has rebuilt teams before makes him one of the better fits for a roster like this.

I must say I'm excited. D'antoni his here so they say.

That to me means its on! Donnie was brought in to change the knicks and win. I believe Donnie will work hard to give D'antoni what he needs. Awesome.

Its done hopefully so lets move on to the Lottery!

Bryan Colangelo rebuilt Phoenix. And Marion and Amare and Joe Johnson were already there and thriving before D'Antoni showed up. All he did was coach after Nash showed up - which had more to do with Colangelo creating cap room by swindling the Knicks. Sure, he put in a system, but he had four guys who could explode for 30 on any given night and run past anyone in the league. And it never worked in the playoffs.

Well, I was responding to the idea the he rebuilt Phoenix. He coached the hell out of the personnel he had, but he did not bring them there. He's a good coach. I think he's the wrong choice, but it will probably be the most entertaining, exciting wrong choice we've made yet. Is that fair?

I think you can't rebuild unless you have a coach that can put a system in place. I don't think rebuilding this roster will be as easy as it was in Phoenix (mainly b/c we're the Knicks and we made it easy for these teams), but clearly we have someone with a formula that can work now. None of the other coaches available really had a track record in these situations the way that D'Antoni had.

Antoni was hired for entertainment purposes only(look at phoenix), the knicks brass(dolemite) just wanted to have another show on broadway.

No building for a chip with him as coach, You can print it!

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

I am not happy with the choice. I think there are alot of reasons to be very concerned. D'Antoni is known as a charismatic, players coach who doesn't coach defense. I don't think that is what this team needs. He appears to fit with the philosophy in place the last 4.5 years where the Knicks don't rebuild and acquire big names who do not fit with the rest of team. He appears to be a typical Dolan choice which is cause for concern because nothing has really changed if this is the case. The Knicks still have Isiah Thomas in the organization, their media policy has not changed, and this hiring appears to be a Dolan hiring indicating to me that Walsh doesn't have the total control he spoke of. I also think you cannot underestimate the importance of Steve Nash to D'Antoni's success. He had the best player on his team in his pocket. He will not have that with the Knicks. In fact there are no leaders on the Knicks other than Malik and Q. I think D'Antoni is going to be the next Don Nelson for NY. The only difference is that he is following Isiah Thomas instead of Pat Riley. I think the pressure, the roster, and lack of success will burnout D'Antoni fast.
