If we have the number 5 pick I would trade down to get an extra pick in 09 and take a defensive minded guard. I would trade the pick completely away if you could get them to take Zach and give a shorter contract. If this team gets rid of Zach, signs a smart MLE and gets a point guard this team can win 35 games next year. I just dont see any major impact guys besides the top 3 in the draft that is a perfect fit for us.

I would not trade down if Mayo is on the board. I believe we can get the kind of role players King is talking about with expiring contracts and cash. Offer guys like Malik or Marbury to teams for a guy with 2 years left and a pick. Or just offer a team a guy like Balkman + $3mm for a pick in the 20s, or just cash. Those deals and trades happen in abundance every draft.

I agree, that guys like Mayo, Blayless, Galinari and Lopez no sure thing represent. But I really dont like the idea of trading away our pick even if we stay at 5.
Im sick of trading away our Lottery picks!!!!

If we get pick #1 or #2, would you trade it for the Nets 2 first round picks this year (10 and 21) plus their 1st round pick next year?

We can then have these choices for this year

10 - Anthony Randolph, JaVale McGhee, DeAndre Jordan
21 - Darren Collison, DJ Augustin, Roy Hibbert

You think NJ would go for that if they get a shot at either Beasley or Rose?

i'm not sure what the problem is b/c the knicks are getting the 2nd pick. stern just texted me again with the info. the fix is in.

I would only trade a lottery pick to get rid of Zach. Then you can rebuild much quicker

I love these people that think they would be some great GM and then suggest the worst deals. No way do I trade down 8-9 picks just to get rid of randolph. I rather trade curry if i can and then there is no immediate need to trade randolph bceause you still will be under the cap by 2010. Randoplh is a better all around player than curry.

Randolph makes 17 million in the last year of his contract. He is a cancer and all he cares about is his numbers. What is the difference from a 5th pick then picking up a guy at 12? Curry contract isnt an albatross and for you to think this team can win Zach shows what you know about the game

Of course NJ would do that (maybe not next years number 1). Thorn would have to be an idiot not to trade away 2 picks that could pontentially land players that have as much downside as upside, for a chance at a sure-fire future NBA allstar (Rose or Beasley). And the Knicks would be out-of-there-minds to pull off this trade you suggest.

I remember when I took some abuse for calling Zach a stat whore.

I wouldn't mind trading down to get a shorter contract in exchange for his. I'm just not sure another team would be willing to do that to move up. However, if we could find a taker, I would be up for it.

People keep talking about wanting to get under the cap in 3 years. Well, thats not going to happen if Zach is still on this roster at that point. Its going to be very difficult to get his value up to a point where we can trade him outright for a shorter contract.

Exactly. Impossible to trade down when no team has what it takes to pull that off. A first and second rebounder isn't enough and no team has multiple middle-to-late first round picks. the teams with multiple picks will likely draft ahead of NY and even iwe get lucky and draft ahead of them, Seattle and Memphis need a bunch of young help anyway. Trading down doesn't appear to be an option this draft.

If you think you can win with curry then it shows what you know about the game. Randolph at least works his butt off in the gym and is coachable . He also put up 20/10. Curry only cares about eating and sleeping and hasn't worked on his game ever. Great person to have on your team.
